Remarks

Academics and facilities are amazing. We should have more placement opportunities and the hostel facilities can be improved. There is no WiFi provided in the hostels which is a down point and the washrooms can also be upgraded.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum is great. The center for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine has an in-depth, hands on curriculum thag teaches us not only theory but also gives us practical knowledge. The exam is structured in a way that we are constantly up to date with our syllabus, and get the opportunity to score the maximum amount of marks due to fair marking patterns.

Placement Experience

3

We do not have many placement or internship opportunities since our thesis work is done in the department itself. Some companies and universities come to talk about their programs and placement opportunities but there have not been campus interviews as of yet for my batch.

College Events

2.5

We celebrate religious festivals like Onam, Diwali, Christmas and also have other activities like an department magazine, and societies and clubs which carry out different types of activities. We also have sports day.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is reasonable for the quality of education we receive. Staying in the hostel is much cheaper than staying outside and the fees are all justified and clearly marked as to what is being charged for which purpose.

Fees and Financial Aid

Students who have cleared GATE are provided a scholarship of around 80,000 per annum. M.Tech students get scholarships which is funded by the Department of Biotechnology in some cases. Loans may also be availed.

Campus Life

3.5

We have some activities that are conducted and students are encouraged to participate in extracurriculars, but we often do not get enough time. There are a few clubs and societies within the department that focus on public speaking, helping the poor, meeting disabled children and playing with then etc.

Alumni/Alumna

Seniors are very helpful and the alumni network is strong. Some alumni come to talk about their experiences and the work they are currently doing. Senior students including PhDs and postdocs are like guides in themselves.

Admission

I applied online. After this I was called to give an entrance exam. The exam consisted of basic biology, physics, chemistry, maths and general knowledge questions. Once I cleared the entrance exam, I had to sit for a personal interview with a panel of professors. They asked about my undergraduate research and what I wanted to pursue in the future, along with some basic questions pertaining to the subject. After this, I finally got selected.

Faculty

5

The faculty of this department is absolutely amazing. Each is a high experienced professional in their respective field of research, and can teach the subjects very well along with providing mentoring during the final year project.

I choosed to study msc applied psychology in kerala university. Because it offers my interested specialization ( organizational behaviour) . The course provides three specializations - clinical , industrial and educational. As it is applied psychology it equipes us to become more practical.I wish the placement cell to be more efficient in our university. Because the placements they offers are limited

Obviously this physics course is tough but the influence of the teachers and other staff made us too motivated and the systematic exam schedule helped us to complete our portion before the exams and there is some more time for the revision purpose.. There teaching method are so useful and they treat us so politely and in friendly nature. So its too easy to clear doubt and feel comfortable to ask them and clear anything.. Remarks:

JEE Rank was the main factor. The facilities like hostel, labs, etc mentioned in the IIT Palakkad website. During the allotment process, one senior girl student of my branch contacted me and cleared all my doubts whether it was small or big, placement details, etc. After the rankings were released, based on the previous years cut-off ranks, I was able to get a fair idea about the colleges I would be able to join among all the IITs, NITs, IIITs. Based on JEE Mains rankings, NIT or IIITs can be chosen. Based on JEE Advance ranking, IIT can be chosen. Also, 2 mock allotment will take place which gives a fair idea of which allotment we will get. These mock allotment will be based on our preferences. We can change them after the mock. Then the actual allotment will start. Once we finalise our preferences and lock them, there will be 7 rounds of allocation. 3 options will be given in each round-Float, Freeze,Slide (details will be clearly mentioned in the website). Once you are allocated a seat in any round, document verification will take place (seat acceptance fee must be paid at this stage).
