Remarks

No Negative remarks at all. This Institute has change my life, my vision in various way.But the institute should focus on recruiting new faculties, research output, teaching methods and non academic issues. But this institute has the capability to regain the top place in India in near future.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The B.Tech course curriculum consists of 8 Semesters, 2 each in one single academic year,1 lasts in December and the other lasts in May.Except for the Architecture Course, they have basically 10 semesters instead of 8. In the first year, all students must have to go through the basic Science subjects and basic engineering subjects like electrical sciences, engineering drawing, English Communication etc. From 2nd year onwards you have to study the departmental subjects. From 3rd year and in final year you can opt for some departmental or non departmental elective courses. Each Student must have to do at least 2 Projects (1 mini and 1 Final) in their B.Tech. In short , the course curriculum is very organised and structured. It is made in such a way that every student can have the knowledge and taste of every aspect of the course that he or she choses.

Placement Experience

3.5

After our institute has been upgraded to IIEST Shibpur, the placement cell saw an overall improvement for the last 3-4 years. Companies like Microsoft , Samsung R&D, Mentor Graphics, TCS,Tata Steel etc had visited our campus. Most of companies look for the IT roles, although the placement for the core branches have not been improved over the last couple of years. But hope that the placements will improve significantly in the next 2-3 years. The Internships opportunity are also there for B.Tech 2nd and 3rd Year students along with the M.Tech 1st year students in many companies along with other Educational Institutes in India and abroad also. I only sit for Tata steel - management trainee job profile, unfortunately left out in the Group Discussion round. The students have to register in Superset Website during the 3rd year study. The companies give some selection criterias , took online exams and interviews in the dedicated interview rooms in the institute and finally they selected the best candidates for the job profiles.

College Events

4.5

Basically there are two major events celebrated in the campus, the major one is REBECA(Reunion of Bengal Engineering College Annuals) and the other is Kolkata's biggest Tech-Management fest , known as INSTRUO. I'll not go into the details it'll go very very long. But I would like to mention few notable events by the various societies and departments of our institute, they are - Gyandhara, India’s largest Open Quiz Festival By Quizmaniac BEings (the Quiz Club)) of IIEST Shibpur,Oikotaan by Euphony- the Music Society of IIEST Shibpur, Kolkata Comic Carnival,TEDx IIESTShibpur, Anuranon - The Annual Dramatics Festival by Dramatics society - the Les Thespians ,Udbhavani by The Civil Engineering Department,Initium by The Mining Engineering Department, Metallum by The Metallurgy and Materials Science Department, Electroquip by the Electrical Engineering Society, Impetus, by the Mechanical Engineering Society,BEing Logical - by the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Air-o-Trivia by the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Applied Mechanics, The Invitational Debate, by the Debating Society of IIEST Shibpur, Photography Exhibitions by Catharsis - the photographic society.Coding Contests by CodeIIEST, the Coding club, DIY *Edition number* by Robodarshan, the Robotics society etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities

When We admitted in the college the total academic fees per semester including the semester exam fees is around 38k, 12.5k for the reserved category students. From 2016 onwards , there is a hike in the tuition fees and the total fees jumps up to 65k per semester. For the M.Tech students it's now 42.5k but the fact is they are eligible for the MHRD scholarships which is 12,400 per month for a period of 2 years, Beside this the hostel fees are 1900 per semester and mess fees have to be paid by online according to the usage in the HMS Portal.

Fees and Financial Aid

I don't have any kind of information for this issue but I believe SBI offers educational loans to the needy students. Scholarships are mainly available for the internships. M.Tech students receive scholarship of 12.4k per month from the MHRD , Govt of India. DAAD is also offering scholarships for the bright students who are willing to do internships in Germany. Besides this, GAABESU also offers scholarships to various students according to the performances in the academics in terms of Books Grant and Online donation.

Campus Life

3.5

There are two major playgrounds located in the Institute, they are Oval and Lords. They are mainly used for football and Cricket matches. Besides this the annual sports tournament of IIEST and BEC Model School held here every year. Recently we got our new basketball court. The Major labs are located inside the institute building. The Physics and Chemistry Labs are in the S&T building. Each department have their own labs inside or outside the academic building. We have our very old workshop, where instruments are of from British Era but they are still working perfectly. The Labs are very spacious , fitted with modern instruments where the students can work with the help of them inside and outside the class hour timings. But improvements are still needed in this section.

Hostel Facilities

4

First of all not all students cannot get the hostel because there is a shortage of hostels. But the students are allotted to the hostels on the basis of distance from the hometown. There are all total 3 hostels for girls ( 1 for B.Tech/M.Tech first year, 1 for Research Scholars and other PG Female students and 1 for rest B.Tech students), 4 hostels for 1st and 2nd year boys (here each room consists of 4 students) and 5 halls (consists single seated room for each student). In hostels, each student will get a cot, a table and an almirahs, In halls there are 1 cot, 1 almirahs, 1 table and 1 chair.Wifi facility is available throughput the campus. Electricity is available for 24*7 hours, I hardly seen any kind of power cut in the campus throughout my B.Tech. Mess facilities are there for each hostel and Halls. Various Canteens are also available throughout the campus, where good quality foods are there at a very cheap rate. Bathroom cleaning is done in the daytime, caretaker and supervisor are there for each hostel and halls. In short, I hardly seen this kind of hostel facilities in any colleges around Kolkata. Recently the institute receives a grant of 260 crores for new academic and hostel complex.

Alumni/Alumna

Our Alumni Network is very strong. This network is one of the strongest network present in India. the Alumni are all located in all over the world. they helped the students as well as the institute in various way. I'm not going into the details but one thing I can tell that they are really very helpful and friendly in every possible way. The Alumni reunion day held on 25th Dec every year and they also organise the famous "Route No 55 Marathon" every single year.

Admission

In the Year 2015, I took the JEE Mains and Advanced Examination. I secured a rank 5757 in the mains. I registered for JoSSA Counselling with my choices. They alloted me in the Department of Computer Science and Technology of IIEST Shibpur. Thats basically done on the basis of my choices given and my performance.

Faculty

4

They are very student friendly, well organised, gives time to each student to solve their doubts even after the class hours is over. They are also highly knowledgeable people, they had achieved so many things in the national and international level also. But to be real, not all faculties are as good as we expect, arguments roll over between students and teachers some times but at end of the day they all love the students and we together remain as one.

I’d rate HIT’s placement opportunities as 7.5/10 overall. It’s very good for CSE, IT, and ECE, decent for Electrical and core branches, and improving every year with more companies visiting and better preparation programs. If you’re skilled and consistent — especially in coding, communication, and aptitude — you’ll almost certainly get placed before graduatin
