Remarks
There are no further thing to mention. JU provides every ample oportunity a student might need to shine in their respective fields, whilst mking their years of study at this place, memorable. The only negative remark i have about my college being about the infrastrutcure which needs to be improved. At times, the University really lags when it comes to proper Hygiene in some departments. although, the college is kept mostly clean some parts of the campus needs to be well and properly maintained.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course Curriculum is good if one judges the success, most of the students receive after successfully completing this course. However, the syllabus needs to be improved and refurnished according to modern trends and requirements in the area of FOOD TECHNOLOGY AND BIOCHEMICAL ENGINEERING, my major. Talking about Exam Structure, they are well planned and chalked out so that a student doesn't really stay long way out of studies nor in the other way, feel too much stressed.Generally 1-1.5 months after commencement of a New semester, there are Internals. and 1-1.5 months henceforth there is another second Internal exam. The internal syllabus mostly consist of topics which have been taught in the preceding months before the internals. Shortly, after the second Internals are the Semester exams, the syllabus of which consists each and everything which has been taught in the semester so far. The same pattern is followed for both the semesters in a particular year of study. marks are taken from both the internals ( 30% percent of the rounded average of both internals) and 70% of total marks scored in the semester exam.
Placement Experience
Placements and job opportunities are really good if you consider the fact that this is a state level university living on moderate fund help from the government. Ocassionally , a university student is the subject of a newspaper headline because he/she bagged a top job in a top MNC. The placements here are at par with all top NIT's and even some IIT's as well. the college provides really good internship opportunities at industries or relevant educational institutes. the teachers are always willing to sign the referral letter if you have that will to learn and develop yourself academically.
College Events
The University leaves no stone un-turned, when it comes to events, both cultural or technical. lots of events and fests are held through out the year, ensuring a happening campus life for the students, in,all fields. some notable events being: SANSKRITI, the annual cultural event Ibtida, Indak, JuWC, JUMUN being other major events held annually SRIJAN, the technical fest HULT PRIZE , the Entrepreneurship event.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Extremely cheap and feasible compared to almost any other engineering college in entire India. students from all strata of society can afford to take up a course here if they manage to get in. and true enough, you will find students from every financial background in the college.
Fees and Financial Aid
I haven't availed any scholarship etc but i know plenty of scholarships are there for needy students. Scholarships mostly consist of fee waivers and students from poor backgrounds can avail it. There are also scholarships for Physically disabled students or students belonging to lower castes. Also, Poor and needy students who shine in their academics are given special waivers and benefits when it comes to fees.
Campus Life
The University always encourages the students to take up an extracurricular activity. therefore a lot of student-run clubs are found here, notable ones being Science Club, Debate Club, Drama Club and Photography club. Also there are plenty other clubs which aren't as popular or well received because the students running it haven't taken any major initiative in spreading it. This is one problem as personally, I being a Musician cant really take part in the Music club of my college, which though exists, remains mostly closed as it lacks proper guidance and maintenance. Sports are usually well maintained and well received in the university. Lots of sport events being held throughout the year. the JU Falcons American Football team has infact received some name outside west bangal for their performances. Popular sporting events in which Ju participates nationally are namely American Football, Basketball, football. talking about labs, labs are good but can be made better. although the infrastructure is their, the university, i feel, doesn't takes enough initiatives so that students perform and take the lab seriously.
Hostel Facilities
I haven't really opted for hostel facilities but as much as i have seen and heard, the hostel facilities are good. Maybe the infrastructure needs a bit of polishing and modernizing but still, considering the hostel and mess fees that the university takes, it cant be any better.
Alumni/Alumna
alumni are quite helpful. at times they donate for university benefits. also they encourage and help students in bagging a job. The ju alumni are spread all across the globe and are present in many big industries and educational institutes in the world. they are always ready to help any student.
Admission
One needs to crack the WBJEE exam and secure a rank within approximately 4000 in the General Category to secure a seat in an Engineering department at this institute. I satisfied the above criteria and likewise, got into my department at JU. The WBJEE exam is conducted by the WBJEEB board and almost all Autonomus universities and private colleges under MAKAUT, the state run technological higher studies board admit students through this exam.
Faculty
The faculty are well qualified and are always friendly and helpful for anyone who is interested to really learn from them. However some faculty do really lack that particular ability to make the topic more interesting and vivid for the requirement of the students. So majority of times, classes appear uninteresting and boring although the faculty concerned is quite clear and efficient himself in the knowledge he/she wants to pass in among the students on the subject he/she is teaching.
