Remarks
College management is all Bengali with conservative thoughts even though they do not curtail individual freedom to a large extent. There is a clear conservatism when it comes to male-female bonding as they are not allowed in to each others hostels.
Entrance Preview
I cleared IIT-JEE with AIR 2927. At my rank B.Tech in Ocean engineering & Naval architecture was the best match to my interest and future aims.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum stresses too much on theory and has a very small practical component which I realized after joining industry. Even then its enough to give you a good insight about marine industry & fetch you a decent job.
Internships Opportunities
College internship was arranged by department professor and had no stipend. The internship was in a government shipyard and was more or less a long vacation in goa.
Placement Experience
Job opportunites totally depend on your personality, caliber & interest. I was initially inclined towards getting a non-core job but couldn't get one for first 6 days so I took a job in a core company which pretty easy. I got a job in Pipavav defence & offshore which offered me a standard 6LPA with housing, conveyance, insurance phone extra.
College Events
Sprinf fest is the cultural fest. Its the best & most colorful time of the year. The campus is full of girls & the fest never disappoints.Kshitij is the techno-management fest. Its the biggest in Asia. Participation is huge.
Fee Structure And Facilities
In my times, total fees was nearly 50k Rs per semester including hostel, mess & other charges. I am not updated about the current fee structure. I have heard that it has increased 4 times.
Fees and Financial Aid
Loans & scholarships are freely available.. Campus has two banks SBI & PNB which distributes loans to everyone who wishes.
Campus Life
Undoubtedly you will experience the best college life at IIT Kharagpur. There is ample scope of every kind of people to make their own space & enjoy. It accepts everyone whether sportmen, nerd, junkie etc. There are 100s of societies.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel are knownn as Hall of residence at IIT Kharagpur. Most of them are old with crumbling infrastructure. Everyone has to stay on campus as there is nothing outside the campus. Though old, its the best part of your stay.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is weak but its slowly catching up . There is a separate department 7 dean looking after alumni affairs. Relations with senior students are cordial in fact after a certain time there is no differentiation of senior junior.
Exam Structure
Exam structure is standard with mid-sem, end sem & a test in between. You need a real caliber to fail as most of the professor will pass you for decent efforts.
Faculty
Faculty is one of the best in world. Each professor is a master in his/her subject. Compared to other IITs, teachers care about student's problems and are helpful in every aspect.
