Dr. Ch Srinivasulu has been working as the Dean of OBTL and Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Institute of Aeronautical Engineering, Hyderabad, Telangana since the last 3 years. He is a distinguished academician with a career spanning over 20 years. He has done B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Sri Venkateswara University of Tirupathi in 1997, M.Tech in Computer Science from JNTU of Hyderabad in 2002 and PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from JNTU of Kakinada in 2018.

How do you ensure that OBTL goals are aligned with the educational objectives of IARE?

I have always ensured that OBTL goals and our college's educational objectives remain in sync with each other. Hence to develop OBTL aims and seamlessly integrate them with the broader framework, we regularly collaborate with academic leaders, faculty and stakeholders. And to make necessary changes as and when needed in accordance with the ever-evolving educational landscape, these objectives are reviewed and updated after a certain interval of time. 

Apart from this, we have implemented relevant assessment strategies to measure students' command over a subject and contribute to their overall growth. Then comes the professional development of our faculty which we ensure by regularly encouraging them to collaborate with each other. We also emphasize a lot on curriculum development to ensure OBTL goals are intricately woven into each course. Last but not the least, regular communication with other departments enhances the overall learning experience and holistic growth of young minds. 


What strategies has your institute adopted for the effective implementation of OBTL practices?

Our college has employed a holistic strategy to implement OBTL practices and to enhance the overall understanding of our teachers about the same and promote a collaborative culture among our instructors, we regularly arrange Faculty Development Workshops. Then we have relevant support structures to offer required resources and expertise to everyone and our formative as well as summative evaluation methods are aligned in accordance with OBTL goals too. 

And based on the inputs we fetch from collected data helps us to make responsive adjustments in our OBTL practices from time to time and further involvement of industry experts during these review processes help us to validate our alignment with workforce requirements. Lastly, during the curriculum design process, we integrate specific learning outcomes and practical applications for real-world relevance.


How do you monitor and assess the success of OBTL initiatives?

We have implemented a robust assessment framework to monitor the success of OBTL initiatives we take for our students' overall growth and development. First and foremost, we collect students related data including their performance metrics and learning outcome attainment followed by feedback from faculty members. After this, thorough discussion takes place wherein we review and discuss things with our instructors to explore valuable insights and then comes the surveys and focus groups where data is captured from students' perspectives. Apart from this, we regularly track the success stories of our Alumni after their Post-graduation so that we can define our long-term goals for OBTL.


How do you ensure that faculty members are well-equipped to implement OBTL methods in their teaching?

Our institution organizes Professional Development Workshops on a regular basis to ensure faculty readiness for OBTL methodologies and help them get an overview of principles, pedagogy and assessment strategies. Then we have dedicated mentorship programs and resource repositories for faculty to effectively apply OBTL to their respective courses and promote a collaborative community among them and students. In addition to this, training is conducted as and when required to help faculty properly design curriculum, integrate necessary technologies and pedagogies in it and align our assessment methods in line with learning outcomes. 

Also, the feedback we collect from students and provide to faculty help them refine their teaching practices in alignment with OBTL principles. This comprehensive approach ensures faculty members are not only well-equipped but also motivated to effectively implement OBTL methodologies, enhancing the overall quality of education.

What initiatives or tools are commonly used to assess students?

Our student assessment strategies are intricately aligned with the outcomes-based approach, fostering a comprehensive and effective learning environment. Also, we have prioritized transparent articulation of learning outcomes and assessment tools are carefully chosen to directly measure students' mastery of these outcomes. Rubrics provide clear criteria for evaluation, ensuring consistency. Then there are portfolios that offer a holistic view of student progress followed by project-based assessments that simulate real-world scenarios and help students use their classroom learning to solve actual problems. 

Peer assessment methods have also been adopted by us to promote collaborative learning. We also offer internships to students to ensure their practical skills development and we encourage them to assess themselves based on feedback received from their teachers to make necessary improvements.


What challenges have you faced while implementing OBTL and how did you tackle them?

The most prominent challenge for us was to train our faculty so that they can refine their teaching strategies in accordance with OBTL objectives and this hurdle was encountered by arranging workshops for them. Apart from this, communication happened regularly to tell faculty about the benefits of these goals. Alignment of assessments demanded collaboration and detailed rubrics. There were also some technical challenges that were tackled with heavy investment in technology. Apart from this, regular reviews and collaborative forums were arranged to ensure consistency across courses. 


How are students, parents and industry stakeholders involved in the OBTL process?

Being the Dean, I strongly believe that engaging students, parents and industry stakeholders in the OBTL process is integral to its success. Hence we have developed newsletters and organize informational sessions to keep parents of students informed about our OBTL principles, learning outcomes and their children's academic progress. 

Apart from this, students actively participate in goal-setting and self-assessment initiatives to ensure ownership of their learning journey. Industry stakeholders are involved through advisory boards, collaborative projects, and internships to ensure effective implementation of OBTL practices and students' success based on their trends, standards and technologies. And insights they provide us during all these events help us to shape our OBTL approach to align with real-world demands. Additionally, feedback mechanisms like surveys and focus groups, capture perspectives from all stakeholders, enabling continuous refinement of OBTL strategies based on their valuable input. 


How does your college foster a culture of continuous improvement in OBTL?

We instill a culture of continuous improvement through regular faculty development, fostering the exchange of best practices. Then a robust feedback system, incorporates student and faculty inputs and also guides ongoing assessment and adjustment of OBTL methodologies. Periodic reviews are also done for learning outcomes, assessment tools, and curriculum alignment to identify enhancement areas. This iterative process ensures that our OBTL practices remain dynamic and responsive to the evolving needs of our learners.
