Dr. Rajni Mohana is the Amity School of Engineering and Technology Dean at Amity University Mohali, Punjab. She holds a B.Tech., M.Tech., and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science. She has more than 10 years of academic experience. Her expertise spans several domains within Software Engineering and Information Systems, including Service Oriented Architecture, Aspect Oriented Programming, and Model Driven Architecture. Furthermore, she has published numerous national and international papers and has served as a reviewer for prestigious international journals and conferences.

What do you think should be the institute’s top priority over the next 10 years?

As a dean - Amity School of Engineering & Technology, I believe that the institute's priority over the next decade should be to encourage an environment of innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration. This includes enhancing our curriculum to integrate emerging technology and industry trends. By ensuring these technological challenges, we can hold the position of leader in engineering education and research.


When you first came to Amity University Mohali, what was your vision for the institute?

When I joined Amity University Punjab, my vision for the institute was to create a hub of innovation and excellence in engineering. I aimed to combine a spirited environment with rigorous academic programs and hands-on experiences. My vision was to build an institute with interdisciplinary research and a culture of creativity and critical thinking. Through these efforts, we envision graduates equipped with the leadership skills and ethical grounding necessary to make a positive impact.


What would you like people to know about your institute that they may not know?

We want people to know that our institute is dedicated to fostering innovation and inclusivity. Our students are engaged in practical problem-solving, from sustainable problems to advanced healthcare challenges. We prioritize community outreach and partnerships to ensure our work has a meaningful impact.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and aspiring students?

As a dean of engineering, I encourage current youth and aspiring students to embrace learning and remain curious about the world. Stay open to new ideas, as the landscape of technology and industry is constantly evolving. One should try to build a strong focus on both technical skills and critical skills. Seek out real-world opportunities like seminars, internships, and projects. One should pursue passion with dedication and integrity and strike on to make a positive impact.


How do you tend to establish a healthy relationship and environment in your institute?

I establish a healthy relationship and environment in our institute by promoting open communication, mutual respect, and feedback. I ensure regular feedback so everyone’s voice is valued and respected. By encouraging a culture of support, we try to create a positive atmosphere where individuals feel empowered. I prioritize professional well-being, ensuring that our community has opportunities to thrive personally as well as academically.


With the competition so high, how do you guide your students to survive in such a competitive scenario?

As a of engineering, I guide our students to prosper in a competitive environment by emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and adaptability. I encourage them to build a strong foundation of technical skills while honoring essential soft skills. By promoting hands-on experience, we prepare our students to face real challenges confidently. I stress the value of networking, mentorship, and lifelong learning to stay ahead in their careers.


What challenges have you faced/are facing to uplift the quality of education in your department?

I have faced several challenges in elevating the quality of education in our department. One significant challenge is ensuring that our curriculum keeps up with technological advancements. This requires continuous updating of our course offerings. Securing funding for innovative research is also crucial. Balancing these elements while maintaining high academic standards is a complex but rewarding endeavor.
