Amity University

Being the Director of Amity University, what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

I believe that a true leader in any game is a team player. They should be a co-creator, not just a go-getter, and they should rely on their team members more. This attitude should be based on leading by example. This is the philosophy that I have been living and practicing for the past eight to ten years. I strongly believe that teamwork is the key to achieving our goals and making our dreams come true.

How does the university curriculum ensure the highest practice in the industry?

Our approach is heavily focused on research, but we also value collaboration with the industry. Our goal is to ensure that students not only focus on finding a job after leaving campus but also experience holistic personal growth. To achieve this goal, we have integrated it into our curriculum to make it easier for students to adapt. Our aim is to prepare students not just for jobs but for the world beyond the campus.

Any insights into how your university could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

Amity Education Group has a vision of establishing a university in each state of India, as well as having a presence outside India. At Amity University Punjab, we cater to students from all over the world, including different states of India like Andhra and Sikkim. Our goal is to provide education to as many students as possible from various regions. We encourage our students to celebrate their cultural festivals so that local students can learn about their heritage and cultures. This helps the students grow and adjust to the environment, making it easier for them to adapt to life after university.

How do you contribute to the institute and your students through your roles and responsibilities?

I have a significant role at Amity University, with minimal interaction with the students. However, as part of a larger system, we strive to ensure that each student receives the best possible education and opportunities that Amity has to offer. The university prioritizes preparing students not just for jobs, but to be world-ready. To achieve this, we have various departments, clubs, and activities that aim to develop each student's talents and skills. In my personal experience, I didn't discover my true talent until after college. I started singing and then dancing but ultimately didn't get anywhere. However, at Amity University Punjab, we provide students with a platform to explore and discover their true potential.

What do you think should be the University’s top priority over the next 10 years?

Amity University has a large alumni base that spans over 30 years of education. Let me give you an example. Recently, I was travelling to Australia and I encountered Amity alumni at every place I visited. I met an Amity alumnus on my flight, another one at the restaurant I was eating in, and yet another one in the hotel I was staying at. This shows the magnitude of our alumni network. Our vision is not limited to one or two years but extends to a much larger span. We want our students to be proud of their association with Amity even after they leave the campus. We aim to create a legacy that our students can be proud of for years to come.

What would you like people to know about your university they may not know?

Amity University Punjab is a university that stands out as unique among the 11 campuses of the Amity group. It is characterized by its research-driven approach and possesses top-notch facilities, located in the heart of the picturesque city of Mohali, just ten minutes away from the airport. It boasts 32 well-equipped laboratories, which are dedicated to promoting science in a manner that is unprecedented in any other private institute. The campus is state-of-the-art and situated in a prime location, making it an ideal destination for anyone seeking a world-class academic experience.

What do you see as Amity University's greatest strengths?

In the realm of education, the most influential factor is the quality of its faculty and facilities. In the northern region of India, we have an unparalleled infrastructure. Our esteemed Vice Chancellor is one of two scientists in the field, an accomplishment of great significance. The faculty's approach towards the students is all-encompassing. They not only impart knowledge but also provide practical examples and opportunities for fieldwork. These pedagogical methods are scarcely observed in contemporary educational institutions. We are tirelessly working towards providing education that is research-driven and industry-oriented, which we regard as the path toward a promising future.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for Amity University specifically?

One of the most significant challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic is comprehending the importance of physical attendance at educational institutions as opposed to relying solely on online learning. The primary objective is to achieve the comprehensive growth of the student, as education is not the only crucial factor. Interacting with a diverse group of individuals and learning a variety of subjects can be achieved by visiting educational institutions. Therefore, the promotion of education should focus on institutes that offer top-tier facilities, are industry-oriented, and provide a richer learning atmosphere. This approach represents the larger objective at hand.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

My primary recommendation for students is to prioritize their mental health and well-being, as it is paramount to their success. The rigors of academia can be overwhelming, and it is crucial to maintain mental fitness in the face of such pressures. As a former student who once harbored dreams of conquering the world, I can attest to the importance of taking care of oneself in order to achieve success. With this in mind, I advise students to consider their familial obligations and responsibilities before making any consequential decisions.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relationship and environment in your University?

In our educational institution, we place high value on our students and strive to provide them with a variety of club options to cater to their diverse needs. When it comes to the admission process, it is not simply a matter of completing a form and paying the requisite fees. Rather, a thorough interview process is in place to ensure that the student is matched with suitable subjects and that their academic interests and goals are aligned with their chosen program. This interview serves as the foundation of the relationship between the student and the institution, and it goes beyond the admission process. We take pride in our commitment to providing our students with a holistic academic experience that is tailored to their individual needs and aspirations.
