You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?
I have worked with this college for more than 25 years. During my childhood days, I was attracted to the education industry. We have been continuously striving to improve the quality of education that we provide to the students by continuously updating the curriculum under the guidance of Ranchi University. Additionally, we have been attending regular seminars and workshops that are specially designed for HODs and faculty members to be updated on the different trends in the education sector.
Being the Principal of Nirmala College, what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?
Leadership is nothing but a process to get your subordinates and colleagues to move in the direction where the goal can be achieved. Leadership does not mean making others follow whatever decision you make; rather, leadership must be a consultative approach where a group of members give their valuable suggestions so that proper decision-making can be done. I also need to monitor the processes at the college. I personally believe in leadership to show the future path or way for the team so that they can work in a synchronous manner and can provide the desired result for the company.
Being the Principal of Nirmala College, how do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your College?
We believe in a consultative approach where we try to work together and in a collaborative manner so that proper discussion can be done on the strategies of the key programs and implementation can be smooth. We have formulated different committees where a group of faculties work together, and then in an open forum, we discuss the plans, whether they be marketing or administrative plans. In our college, we have an Internal Quality Assurance Cell, an Academic Committee, a Staff Council, a Research Committee, a Cultural Committee, a Magazine Committee, and a Sports Committee. All of these committees work individually to help us come to a common process.

How does the curriculum of Nirmala College ensure the best practice of industry?
We are working with the approach of providing theoretical knowledge and reinforcing it with practical knowledge. The latter is provided to students with the view that they need to stand out in the outer world so that they can apply their theoretical knowledge in a work setting. Our students work on many case studies and practical situations and try to come up with solutions for the problems. Additionally, we have smart boards and co-curricular activities so that they can be competitive when looking for work.
What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the University and the students are?
As a Principal, I have a lot of roles and responsibilities towards the college and the students. My biggest role is to be a torchbearer for both the college and the students. I am responsible for guiding the complete team, which includes HODs, professors, supporting staff, and students. I need to make sure we follow all the guidelines by Ranchi University, drive the college with discipline, and take care of the overall development of the college. In addition to this, I am the chairman of the different committees in the college where we take care of proper academic development, and placements to ensure the quality of education is upheld.
What do you think should be the College’s top priority over the next 10 years?
We at Nirmala College are thriving to increase the intake for the college and launch new professional courses to give the students a good number of options to choose from. We are also incorporating short-term courses like DCA, courses on hardware and networking, and certification courses in programming languages like C, C++, and Java. These will be an added advantage for the students who are studying at our college or will study there.
What would you like people to know about your university they may not know?
At Nirmala College, we have put in numerous facilities for our students. We have a Student Support Centre and a Utility Centre. Moreover, we have hostels with three wings with a capacity of 450 Students. The college campus is Wi-fi enabled, our classrooms are spacious and a couple of the classrooms are smart classrooms. We also have 12 Laboratories for different streams along with an auditorium, seminar hall and a full library to support our students.
What do you see as Nirmala College’s greatest strengths?
Under SCJM (Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary), we want to teach that God is love and to use this as our biggest strength to achieve our vision. Achieving our vision is not possible without our team of HODs, professors, and support staff, who are helping in achieving the desired vision. Our students are passionate about their studies and are focused on their career growth, which also contributes to the strength of our college.
