Management Cultural Fest ‘Xpressions 2019’ concludes at XIMB

"Xpressions'19", the flagship Cultural fest of Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, concluded successfully on November 10. Spread over three days, the fest witnessed a huge number of participants from several reputed institutions across India. The participants brought a multitude of talent in the various competitions organized on all three days.
Day 1: Vriddhi, a CSR plan competition was won by Team Columbus (Kanupriya Mittal, Lava Kaushik), IRMA and the runners up were Team Winions (Sreeparna Kanungo and Pratyush Dey), XIMB. Resonance, a business simulation gaming event, was won by Team Incredibles (Praharsh Srivastava, Shreya Pandiyan Naidu, Siba Kumar Panda) and Team Blitzkrieg (Subhashish Mohanty, Itishree Biswal, Pratyush Raj) were the runners up. Team Sparkling Newbies (Viraj Gopani, Manan Mehra, Isha Parasramka) bagged the first prize in Fincaso where the financial acumen of the students was tested.
Day 2: The penultimate day of the fest was packed with a variety of events, beginning with several business events such as XIMB's very own Model United Nations and the flagship case study competitions name Maven and Jack of all Trades. Goonj, the solo singing competition where all the talented vocalists came on one podium and Pratibimb, face painting competition was won by ITER (Shatabdi Chakraborty and Nikhil Singh).
Day 3: The last yet most-awaited day of the fest had a plethora of events such as Inquizzitive (The Flagship Quizzing Competition), Ad-Valorem (A Business Ideation Competition), MPower (A Marketing Based Business Event), Paint@XIMB (National Level Painting Competition), Thirkan (Group And Solo Dance Competition) And The Final Cut (A Short Film Making Competition).
Thirkan, the dance competition of Xpressions finished with several laudable performances. The ‘Vigoureux Crew’ from Ravenshaw University, Cuttack won the group dance event after a tough competition from team ‘Danza’ of ITER, BBSR. Devjyoti Goswami, of Sophitorium College of Engineering, Bhubaneswar captivated the hearts of the audience and walked away with the trophy of the solo dance category.
The curtains came down on Xpressions ’19 with Celeblitz, the celebrity night. XIMB was honored to host the magical Bollywood singer, Mika Singh, who astounded the audience with his popular hits. His set-list was a combination of his compositions, which were deliriously lapped up by the enthusiastic crowd. His performance was a fitting coda to Xpressions ’19.
XIMB to host its Annual Fest ‘Xpressions’

Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar (XIMB) is set to hold its annual fest ‘Xpressoions’ from November 8 – 10, 2019. The three-day extravaganza is one of the biggest Management-Cultural fests of eastern India and the students are all geared up to make this a utopian event.
Hosting a gamut of events that serve as a whetstone of creativity, Xpressions 2019 aims to provide an ideal platform for business school students across the nation to prove their mettle in their area of expertise-be it performing arts or business intellect. It offers its guest one of a kind experience, by concocting a heady cocktail of the most innovative business simulation games and the most fascinating cultural events, as a refreshing change from their hectic everyday schedules.
With only a few days to go, here are the events that are scheduled to make Xpressions eventful and memorable. The business events include, the flagship event, Jack of All Trades (a National-Level Case Study and Simulation Game competition), Maven (a National-Level Case Study Competition, organized by Constrat: the strategy association), Inquizzitive (a Flagship Quizzing Competition), MPower (A Marketing based Business event by Maxim), Case Connect (a National-Level Case Study Competition), and many more.
But, it’s not all business at Xpressions. Besides all the serious case competitions, the students also engage in a multitude of cultural competitions and showcase their creative talents. Decibelz, the War of Bands keeps the crowd enthralled by performing rock music. Goonj, the solo singing competition, and Thirkan, the dance competition brings out the best in participants. Aaghaz, the Nukkad Natak event which happens on the streets, shows some real emotions, leaving the crowd touched. The Carnival De Vogue, which is the Fashion Show competition, judges the team on their walk, creativity, elegance and overall performance.
Last year Xpressions witnessed the scintillating performance by Sunidhi Chauhan, which was much awaited by not just the XIMB fraternity but the whole of Bhubaneswar. It was a starry night, adding yet another feather to the cap of all the previous glorious Xpressions. To astound everyone again, this year XIMB promises a two-fold entertainment package. The institute waits to host Kumar Varun, to tickle the funny bones of the audience in the stand-up comedy act in Comedy Adda, and Mika Singh for the live performance on Celeblitz, the Celebrity Night. In addition to that for the rock factor, XIMB also welcomes Underground Authority along with Sunburn Live for its EDM night. Just a few more days left for the grand event to enthrall the city of Bhubaneswar.
XIMB organizes annual Media Conclave ‘Communique’

Illuminatix, the Media and PR Cell of XIMB organized their annual media conclave ‘Communique’ on September 1, 2019. The theme of the discussion was "Evolution of Media- The Nexus of Brand Transformation."
Mr. Yuvraj Mehta, Head- Corporate Brand Management and Communications, Larsen and Toubro, Mr. Digvijay Shekhawat, Senior Vice President, Ogilvy, Mr. Manish Jhaveri, Senior Creative Consultant- IBD and Da Cunhas, and Mr. Bibhu Ranjan Mishra, Associate Editor, Business Standard, were the esteemed speakers of the occasion. Prof. Sandip Anand, Prof. of Marketing, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, served as the moderator for the discussion.
The first speaker, Mr. Mehta talked about how social media has revolutionized media. He cited the example of the ‘MeToo’ movement and how a single tweet through digital media spread like wild-fire. Within a fortnight, there were 2.3 million tweets, 24 million facebook posts that spread across 85 countries. Further, he talked about how brands are moving towards online marketing as it not only provides better engagement with the customers but also better return on investment.
The second speaker, Mr. Shekhawat started by explaining the concepts of Strategic Marketing and Data-Driven Marketing. He talked about how brands are specifically targeting their ‘ideal buyer’ rather than selecting a broad market. He further gave insights about various successful marketing campaigns like GoPro’s ‘Photo of the Day’, IBM’s ‘Call for Code’.
The next speaker, Mr. Jhaveri started by drawing an analogy between Bob Dylan’s song ‘The time they are a-changin’ and marketers who need to keep up with change otherwise they will be left behind. He talked about topicality and witty one-liners, something which has always been Amul’s strong suit. “Before Twitter, Amul used to be the twitter with its witty one-liners.”
Mr. Mishra was the final speaker of the day. He spoke about the rising issues of misinformation on social media. He told that although social media is becoming the preferred medium of communication, traditional mediums cannot be ruled out as they are still known for their authentic content.
The panel interaction was followed by an interactive question and answer session, where students posed inquisitive and insightful questions. This was followed by the launch of the 4th edition of ‘Communique’ newsletter. The eminent speakers felicitated the winners of ‘Communiquiz’, a quiz competition organized by Illuminatix in association with XQuizzite recently.
XIMB holds its annual business conclave ‘FINOMICS 2019’

X-FIN, the Finance Association of XIMB organized its annual business conclave ‘FINOMICS’ recently. The theme of the discussion was "Insolvency: The End or a New Beginning?"
CA Vishal Jain, Insolvency Professional, Proprietor of Vishal G. Jain and Associates, Mr. Uday Patil, Director, Investment Banking, Keynote Corporate Services Limited, Mr. Somjeet Behera, Deputy VP, RBL Bank, and Mr. Debasis Panigrahi, Executive Director, Nomura India Investment Banking were the esteemed speakers of the occasion. Prof. D. V. Ramana, Professor of Accounting, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, served as the moderator for the discussion.
- The first speaker, Mr. Jain, talked about the importance of Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) and how such a sound legal framework will reduce information asymmetry and maximize value in a time-bound manner.
- The second speaker, Mr. Patil, talked about the historical evolution of insolvency laws in India and what lead to the formulation of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. He shed some light on the SARFAESI Act, which provided banks and various financial institutions leeway to auction residential and commercial properties without the interference of the court. He went on to explain the Strategic Debt Restructuring (SDR) scheme, which allowed loans to be converted to equity to enable banks to take control of the company if it acquired a significant stake. He concluded by saying, “The goal of IBC is not to lead the company into liquidation, but to try to find value buyers and facilitate the revival of the company.”
- The next speaker, Mr. Behera, started by terming IBC as one of the government’s ‘landmark’ policies. He explained the concept of the Twin Balance Sheet problem and how IBC is solving it. He further gave insights about Tata Steel’s resolution plan and acquisition of debt-ridden Bhushan Steel in which he was directly involved. He concluded with a positive note, “IBC is a revolution which would improve India’s position in Ease of Doing Business.”
- Mr. Panigrahi was the final speaker of the day. He discussed the impact of IBC. “The time taken to resolve stressed loans has decreased from 4.3 years to 1-1.5 years after IBC implementation.” He added that similar was the case with the recovery rate, which has jumped from 26% to 48%.
The panel session was followed by an interactive question and answer section, where students posed inquisitive and insightful questions. This was followed by the launch of ‘Finshastra,’ the annual magazine of X-FIN. The eminent speakers felicitated the winners of ‘Financius,’ an intra-college yearly article writing competition and ‘Budgewiser,’ an inter-college budget analysis competition organized by X-FIN. Mr. Shivam Jolly, the student coordinator of X-FIN, delivered the vote of thanks to all the dignitaries and concluded the event.
