ILLUMINATIX, the Media and PR Cell of XIMB hosted its Annual Media Conclave “Communiqué” on 22nd November 2020 with the theme “BRAND STORYTELLING: FABLES WITH THE POWER TO CHANGE THE WORLD.”
The first speaker of the event was Mr. Nilesh Mahajan - the Vice President of Reliance Jio who explained the storey of Reliance Jio as a brand to the XIMB students, starting from the very beginning of his idea to consumer insights that were crucial to building the brand. Capturing the essence of Communiqué '20 perfectly, Mr. Mahajan graced us with the insights of building a brand that not only sells but also adds value to the lives of customers by serving their present needs and anticipating prospective ones.
The second speaker was Mr. Prashant Aneja, Senior Brand Manager at Flipkart shedding light on the different aspects of brand storytelling that shaped consumers. Mr. Aneja also identified the pulse of brand storytelling by walking a captivated audience through some of the iconic brand campaigns.
The third speaker was Mr. Shahbaaz Mohammed, Senior Brand Manager at Zydus Wellness Ltd who initiated the discussion by enlightening the audience on the elements of branding such as head lifters, functional benefit versus emotional insight, and narrative fallacy. He also emphasised that branding is a function not only of creativity but also of concrete research and insight. From brand seed to viral content marketing, Mr. Mohammed took us on a journey through brand storytelling with visits from past ads that touched our hearts.
The fourth speaker was Mr. Bodh Deb-Vice-President and Chief Executive Officer of AutumnGREY, Mumbai sharing the meaning of the "moment" in the storytelling of a brand, regardless of the moment being a fixed or a fluid one. He also pointed to the need for brand stories to mirror society and deliver purpose instead of relying on mere drama to engage the consumer. He emphasised that real-life stories were the muse that served as the crux of brand storytelling with a superior impact.
Exhilarating discussions were interspersed with interactive Q&A sessions with panel speakers, where guest speakers provided thought-provoking answers to equally intriguing questions posed by students. The winners of the national level competitions held in the run-up to Communiqué were also congratulated on their certificates and prizes in the conclave. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Mr. Amrit Anand Mohapatra, student coordinator of IlluminatiX.
