Describe the general setting of WAT / GD (if any)?

Mounika Gurumurthy: “GD was offline. 8 members were there for each group. Everybody got an equal amount of time and a chance to share their views in the discussion. 2 moderators were there in the group. One moderator was monitoring the time and the other moderator was asking questions at the end and ensuring the smooth flow of the GD. It was ensured that the topic was not redirected and stay on the same track. 5 minutes was given to think about the topic and to write it on a piece of paper. 5-7 minutes was given to each person to share his views. And 1 minute in the end for everyone to summarize the topic. GD was a soft one and didn't go like a debate, arguing on each statement.”

Mounika Gurumurthy: "GD topic was "In what way managers are different than leaders?”

What were your answer/points put forward for the WAT or GD respectively?

Mounika Gurumurthy: “Few points that I could recollect are as follows: Managers somehow are aggressive and always concentrate on meeting deadlines and on the other side leaders concentrate on empowering all the employees keeping deadlines as their secondary issue.

Startups mostly encourage every employee to act and think like leaders whereas multinational corporates always encourage their employees to behave like managers rather than leaders.

Managers are target-oriented whereas leaders are culture oriented. Leaders are highly encouraged and hence startup culture is improved in big companies so that cultural transformation leads to the success of the firm. Managerial aspects can be taught but leadership skills cannot be taught. It is something we gain through experience and investing more time in our talent rather than being target-oriented.”

Describe the general setting of your personal Interview.

Mounika Gurumurthy: “Personal interview environment was cool and calm. It was a personalized interview and not a group interview. Panellists are faculty of IBS. Two panellists were there. My interview went for around 25-30 minutes. The mode of the interview was offline.

It was not a stress interview rather it was like a discussion between two people. They concentrate on asking questions based on the answers that participants give. It is made sure that the participant is clear with his own resume. If the interviewee gives a random answer, the next question from the interviewer will be out of the box. They mostly concentrate on communication skills, confidence levels, and finally genuinely answered or not.”

Mounika Gurumurthy: “1. Tell me about yourself. I am G. Mounika graduated in the field of Information Technology from MVSR Engineering College. I am the university 4th rank gold medalist from Osmania University. I am the Chairman of IEEE WIE Affinity Group, MVSR SB. I was the Public Committee Head of MVSR SB IEEE.

2. What are your areas of interest in graduation?. My areas of interest are AI, ML, Deep Learning and Designing using Adobe Tools. My final year project was the Implementation of an Intellectual Environment using NLP and VRML. The project is about converting text to a 3D object.

3. What are your hobbies?. My hobbies are Classical dance, Carnatic Music, Playing badminton, Gardening, and reading novels. I am a badminton district level player.

4. Since you said your area of interest is AI, what packages you used in your project ?. I have NLTK, Pandas, Keras, Tensor flow packages in my project.

5. Why MBA, why not MTech/ME or MS since you are a techie person ?. I wanted to pursue a degree in management since I was always interested in incorporating technology in various business. I wanted to start my own company based on technology. I thought that managerial skills would help me better in managing my company.”

Mention 3 reasons why you chose this college over other colleges which you converted.

Mounika Gurumurthy: “I chose IBS over IIM's because IBS is located at Hyderabad. My parents didn't want me to go to other places. due to my health conditions, it was always feasible for me to stay local. Among local B-schools, IBS is the best. Hence I opted for it. The other reason was the exposure to all kinds of cultures is great at IBS. The final reason is that I like the club culture at IBS Hyderabad. From childhood, be it in school, or graduation I was all the time engaged in one or the other curricular related club. This is one other option I had chosen IBS Hyderabad.”

What was the reason for you not converting to other colleges?

Mounika Gurumurthy: “I didn't convert from other colleges. I feel that the decision I made, ended into the best results in life till today.”
