Dr. C. P. Maheswaran is the Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at Sri Krishna College of Technology. He received his B.E. and M.E. in Computer Science and Engineering, and his Ph.D. from the Faculty of Information and Communication Engineering in 2003, 2005 and 2017 respectively. His research focuses on Mobile Networks, Wireless Networks, Cloud Computing, and Information Security. He has published more than 60 papers in reputed international conferences and refereed journals, including Inderscience, Elsevier, Springer, etc. Under Dr. Maheswaran’s guidance, six Ph.D. scholars are working in his research area.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?
The education sector isn't merely a field but an expansive reservoir of boundless knowledge, continual challenges, perpetual learning prospects, and a sphere for societal and national advancement. It provides a myriad of chances to engage with innovators, inventors, professionals, industry mavens, scientists, and entrepreneurs. My twin passions, teaching, and research find a harmonious platform here. Simultaneously working with students on real-time product development facilitates societal issue resolution. The commitment and enthusiasm of young minds connected with the education sector form a potent force in addressing and resolving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). This amalgamation of factors continually sustains my deep connection with the education sector.
Being the Head of AI and DS Department at SKCT, what is your philosophy of leadership?
My leadership philosophy is rooted in transformational and democratic principles. In a transformational capacity, I challenge my team with novel tasks, fostering an environment where they can unearth innovative solutions beyond their comfort zones. Encouraging the team to establish achievable objectives and urging independent learning is paramount. I provide guidance and support as needed. Crucial decisions are made through extensive consultations with team members, carefully considering their input before finalizing any course of action. This approach ensures collective involvement and a comprehensive perspective on leadership decisions within the AI and DS departments at SKCT.
In your experience, what inbound students can gain from studying here in your institute?
Our institute provides an optimal environment, top-notch education, and exceptional training and internship prospects for students. The diverse student community fosters an environment conducive to personal and professional growth. My advice to students and young individuals is to have confidence in themselves. Maintain loyalty to yourself, your parents, teachers, and friends. Continue to engage in acts of kindness and contribute positively to society, even after achieving your personal goals. Life is not just about individual success but also about making a positive impact on the lives of others. This approach fosters a sense of fulfilment and contributes to the overall well-being of the community. Remember, success is not only measured by personal accomplishments but also by the positive influence one has on the world around them.
How do you establish a healthy relationship and environment in your college?
Creating a positive and constructive environment within my college involves fostering open and respectful communication among all stakeholders. I emphasize the importance of providing a platform where everyone feels comfortable expressing their thoughts, concerns, and ideas. This open communication fosters trust and collaboration, enabling individuals to work together harmoniously towards common goals. Encouraging a culture of transparency and mutual respect establishes a healthy relationship among students, faculty, and staff, contributing to a positive and conducive learning and working environment.
