Dr Om Pal Singh who has been working as HOD of the Mechanical department at Sardar Beant Singh State University Gurdaspur, Punjab holds a Bachelor of Engineering and a Master of Engineering from IIT Roorkee. Dr Singh also has a PhD from MNNIT Allahabad to further advance his academic credentials. With a total work experience of 34 years in the education sector, his work has been published in 20 international and 16 national papers in his field.

How did you train your Faculty to deliver programs to students in the best possible way?

Our college firmly believes that our teachers play a major role in their student's life as they not only teach them but make sure that students also become socially responsible individuals. In order to do this in a perfectly plausible way, teachers need to be updated with the happenings of this dynamic world and the evolving student requirements. To this end, our college organizes professional development programs, hands-on training sessions and workshops on a regular basis to make sure teachers stay aware of the newer technologies, educational practices and industry standards.

What is your philosophy of leadership?

I have always worked with a collaborative and participatory style of leadership where each of the members collectively takes up tasks and implements ideas to reach a shared mission. I always believe in the influential decentralization of the power system for decision-making at all levels.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

As education is the primary need of society, being attached to it is a huge inspiration. It gives us the privilege to transform young people into capable, responsible citizens and employable human resources. The education sector allows us to push the boundaries of young minds preparing them to confidently deal with worldly challenges and make meaningful contributions.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the students are?

I think that the students are our real stakeholders. My institution is working day and night for the betterment of students. We have introduced a system to get feedback from the students. This will ensure inspire us to keep pace of improvements. My first concern is to provide an employable friendly environment to the students.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the aspiring students?

As an educator, I always motivate students to set ambitious and higher goals in their life. I encourage the students to believe that nothing is impossible to achieve in this world, but it is possible with hard work and dedication. Students should focus on their career development. I firmly believe that opportunities knock on our door all the time and the students should be ready to grasp these opportunities. Passion can create miracles.
