Addala Vasudeva Rao is the Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Avanthi's Research and Technological Academy. He holds a B.Sc. and a M.Sc. degree in Computer Science. Thereafter, he went on to complete an M.Tech. degree in Computer Science and Technology and is presently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering. Before working at ARTA, he had worked with the Dadi Institute of Engineering and Technology, Noble Institute of Science and Technology, Sri Sai Ram Degree College and Sri Venkateswara Degree College.
Mr. Rao has participated in over 20 conferences and workshops in his area of expertise. He also regularly publishes research papers and has published seven papers in well-known international and national journals. He holds memberships in the Computer Society of India, the Indian Red Cross Society, the International Association of Engineering, the Computer Science Teachers Association, and the Society of Digital Information and Wireless Communication, among others.
What are the factors that make this program the best for the students to opt for?
Today, there is a lot of demand for computer science subjects and allied branches like cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and data science. There is expected to be a huge demand in the future as well. Each should be aware of the subject and its scope. This is why everyone is choosing Computer Science as their speciality area.
What are the best practices in the program you are doing?
In our college, there are three different branches Computer Science, B.Tech. in Computer Science, B.Tech. in Cybersecurity and B.Tech. in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Today, subjects like ethical hacking, machine learning, and deep learning are in trend, and numerous jobs are opening up in the industry. For each of these branches, we have set up laboratories with modern and state-of-the-art infrastructure for the students.
How does the program ensure the best for the students being prepared for the future?
These branches and these courses will meet the requirements of companies in the future. In the future, there will be a lot of demand for machine learning. data science and artificial intelligence. We include aspects of these subjects in the students' day-to-day proceedings. For instance, we push out weather forecasts that operate on machine learning and artificial intelligence. This motivates students in these subjects to brainstorm ideas to come up with their own products and solutions. Cybersecurity is also a major issue for companies and individuals, and students who are learning this subject can contribute to it positively after graduation. We try to teach the students the future scope and opportunities they will become eligible for and teach them to grab them.

How do you tend to build an industry connect with the program?
We have collaborated with Pega University and we have tie-ups with numerous companies like TCS. These collaborations and tie-ups provide our students with internships and placements. We also invite professionals through these collaborations to give lectures and talks. A lot of our students have joined PEGA University in the past couple of years.
What are the challenges that you are facing while inculcating this program in your curriculum?
We do have challenges, like most colleges. In any of our challenges, we try to understand the scenario and both parties' viewpoints. If there is any new technology, we try to update it automatically so that students will be well prepared for the technology in the future.
What are the types of projects the students are working on this program?
Our curriculum has a mandatory internship program, community service projects, and a final major project. Most projects our students handle have a social aspect. In these projects, students would go to nearby villages and take part in campaigns, camps, and awareness programs. They take part in educating the locals. These projects are handled from the second and third years onward. These projects are perfect for the students to learn new technologies and skills.
What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the students?
According to my role, I make sure to ensure that all students are settled in a proper way and are studying. I make sure they are not facing any problems or issues in their studies. Providing internships, placements, opportunities for up-skilling and more. My role is to always be present for the students and give them a platform for higher education or jobs.
