Mammula Venkatesh is the Head of the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering at Avanthi's Research and Technological Academy. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. from Andhra University. He completed his B.Tech and M.Tech from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada. He has worked as an assistant professor and NSS coordinator at Gokul Group of College. He has been working with Avanthi's Research and Technological Academy since 2018.

What are the factors that make this program the best for the students to opt for?

Students are the ones who motivate us to go forward and automatically we will grow. Students are usually interested in industrial-oriented programs or technical skills programs. We are more approachable towards colleges. Avanti Institute is not just one college, there are groups of colleges associated with us. We are flexible and friendly with students and give them importance to support them in their growth and to get them a job.

What are the best practices in the course you are offering?

We give importance to electrical machines, power systems and control systems and use them in the industry. We have a laboratory which is very important for the students where we explain real-time work situations. We also train the lab technicians in the industry. 

How does the program ensure that students are prepared for the future?

The future preparation is done only for the private sector. On the other hand, the government sector has more scope. For example, NPTEL, Power Grid, Transco, Bisco, and Genco. These organizations provide more jobs. We train the students for the government sector by making them prepare for different competitive exams like the Gate exam, IAS exam etc. We motivate them to go outside. The academy has VLSI design in the core branches and software called ECMEN. 

How do you tend to build an industry connection with the program?

There is a subject named power electronics that develops only when the industry is oriented. There are many online programs available at the academy. We have software tools based on IOT and advanced technology in MATLAB. There are solar power plants in MAGZ. The academy has a PV set software that can be downloaded and implemented for PV designing. We have approached many colleges and we want to build a future goal.

What were the challenges you faced while inculcating this program into your curriculum?

Most of the students who come to our academy are from rural areas. We teach them in a way that they can understand. We give lectures based on the standard books as they are flexible. We try to build a job-oriented program and put efforts for the same. We also provide CRT classes for 6 months. 

What are the types of projects that the students are working on through this program?

We focus on real-time projects. We have battery cells, which are being manufactured and designed by us. We also have solar power plants. The academy conducts seminars, workshops and guest lectures. We can see the scope of the project after delivering the job-oriented lectures.

What are the benefits and career options after pursuing this course?

One of the major career options is in the power industry. The other is in the transmission systems, electrical systems, and railways. The students can also go for SSCs as 70% of the jobs are government jobs. If you write a GATE exam, you will see that 50% of the jobs are electrical jobs. The government and profit-earning companies in the share market should be the target for jobs. The railways department is purely for electrical and mechanical jobs. There are section engineers, junior engineers, and ALPs in this domain. There are career options in the Indian engineering services as well. The major impact is in the electrical engineering. There is a good growth in the number of jobs in the aforesaid sector. I am passionate about prioritizing those jobs. If we want to go towards the core this is a good solution.
