The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) counselling has started at 4:00 P.M, on May 17, 2025 and will close at 5:00 P.M. on May 21, 2025. To complete their registration for the Admissions Counselling Process, candidates must pay the CLAT 2025 Counselling Registration Fee by 5.00 PM on May 21, 2025. You will receive invitations to the CLAT Admissions Counselling Process via email at their registered email address and SMS at their registered phone number. You must check your registered email address and carefully read the instructions for the Admissions Counselling Process.
Candidates from the general category must pay INR 30,000 (Rupees Thirty thousand only) and candidates from the ST/ SC/ OBC/ BC/ EWS/ PWD categories are required to pay INR 20,000 (Rupees Twenty thousand only) as CLAT counselling fees. Any requests to make the payment after the last date for registration, i.e., 5:00 PM on May 21, 2025 shall not be considered.
If you are found ineligible by an NLU based on the verification of documents/information provided, an amount of Rs. 5,000/- (Rupees Five thousand only) will be deducted and the remaining Counselling Registration Fee will be refunded.

How many students are invited for CLAT counselling?
For CLAT counselling 2025, approximately 26,150 candidates were invited. This is roughly three times the number of available seats. Total 5230 seats are available (3711 for LLB and 1519 for LLM). Approximately 26,150 candidates will be invited for counselling via email and SMS. The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) UG 2025 was held on December 1, 2024, and the results were declared on December 9, 2024.
The Consortium in an official notification announced that "The single bench of Hon’ble Delhi High Court had issued an order directing the Consortium to revisit the Merit List published on December 7, 2024. In response, we filed an appeal in division bench of Delhi HC, however division bench didn’t intervene the single judge bench order. CLAT scores are now accepted by 26 NLUs with Dr. Rajendra Prasad National Law University (RPNLUP) in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh and India International University of Legal Education and Research (IIULER) in South Goa, Goa being the latest ones to join the The Consortium of National Law Universities in October and November 2024 respectively.

Admissions Counselling Process
Candidates who are allotted a seat at any National Law University (NLU) can choose one of the following options during the counselling rounds:
Freeze Option
- Definition: Candidates who are satisfied with their assigned seat can choose to ‘Freeze’ it.
- Requirements: Pay the Confirmation Fee within the specified time.
- Consequences: After selecting Freeze, candidates will not be considered for further rounds of counselling.
- Remaining University Fee Payment Deadlines:
- To Be Updated, for First, Second, and Third rounds.
- To Be Updated, for Fourth and Fifth rounds.
- Action: Accept the assigned seat and leave the counselling process. Pay the remaining fees to confirm admission.
Float Option
- Definition: If candidates do not get their first choice NLU, they can choose to ‘Float’ and keep the chance of getting a higher preference seat later.
- Requirements: Pay the Confirmation Fee in any round to use this option.
- Consequences: If allotted a higher preference seat later, candidates cannot revert to the previous seat.
- Action: Accept the current seat but stay open for a better choice in later rounds.
Exit Option
- Definition: Candidates can choose to ‘Exit’ if they do not wish to continue in the counselling process.
- Requirements: None specified.
- Consequences: Withdraw from CLAT counselling, losing any paid fees if applicable.
- Action: Exit the counselling process.
Consequences of Not Participating
If candidates do not exercise any option within the specified time:
- They will not be considered for admission.
- They will lose their currently allotted seat.
- Their name will be removed from the counselling list.
- They will not be included in future lists.
Provisional Nature of Allotment
Seat assignments are provisional and subject to final verification by the concerned NLU.
Rounds of Admissions Counselling
Overview
There will be five rounds of admissions counselling.
Counselling Process
- If a candidate is not allotted a seat in a given round:
- They should wait for the next round of counselling, as this is a sequential process.
Timing of Rounds
- The Fourth and Fifth rounds of admissions counselling will take place in May 2024.
- These rounds will aim to fill seats that remain vacant after May 14, 2025.
- All available seats will be allotted to the next eligible candidates during this time.
Conclusion of Central Admission Process
- After the Fifth round, the central admission process conducted by the Consortium will be closed.
- However, member NLUs may still admit candidates to fill any remaining vacant seats by following their own prescribed norms.
Refund of the Counselling Registration Fee
Eligibility for Refund
- Candidates will receive a full refund of the Counselling Registration Fee if:
- They are not allotted a seat by the end of the Fifth round of counselling by the Consortium.
- They have not chosen the Freeze or Float option and Exit from the counselling process.
Conditions for Partial Refund
- If a candidate has been allocated a seat and chosen the Float or Freeze option until the Fourth round, and then:
- Chooses to Exit or fails to complete their admission by paying fees:
- The Counselling Registration Fee will be refunded:
- In full if Exit is exercised before 1:00 P.M. on May 24, 2025.
- After a deduction of ₹5,000 if exercised after 1:00 P.M. on May 24, 2025.
- The Counselling Registration Fee will be refunded:
- Chooses to Exit or fails to complete their admission by paying fees:
Deductions for Ineligibility
- If a candidate is found ineligible by an NLU based on document verification at any round:
- ₹5,000 will be deducted from the Counselling Registration Fee, and the remaining amount will be refunded.
Withdrawal After Admission
- If a candidate chooses the Freeze option and takes admission at an allocated NLU in any of the five rounds but withdraws after June 10, 2025:
- ₹5,000 will be deducted from their refund, and the Confirmation Fee will be forfeited.
Refund Process for Fifth Round
- If a candidate is allotted a seat for the first time in the Fifth round of counselling and chooses to Exit or fails to complete their admission:
- The Counselling Registration Fee will be refunded in full.
Refund Initiation
- Refunds will be processed to the same account from which the Counselling Registration Fee was paid.
- Candidates must ensure that their bank accounts are functional during the counselling and refund process.
- Requests to transfer refunds to another account will not be accepted.
Confirmation Fee Adjustment
- The Confirmation Fee paid by any candidate will be adjusted against fees payable at the NLU where they secure admission.
- If a candidate chooses the Exit option, fails to pay fees by the due date, or is found ineligible:
- The Confirmation Fee will not be refunded.
Fee Payment at the Allotted NLU
- All candidates who have selected the Freeze option in any round of counselling must:
- Pay the balance of University Fees.
- This payment is after adjusting for the Counselling Registration Fee and Confirmation Fees already paid.
- Payment must be made within the stipulated time in the Admissions Counselling Calendar.
- If a candidate fails to pay their balance University Fees by the given date:
- They will be deemed to have chosen the Exit option.
- They will forfeit their seat and the Confirmation Fee.
- They will receive a refund of the Counselling Registration Fee after a deduction of ₹5,000 (Rupees Five thousand only).
- In case of any discrepancy found in the documents submitted:
- The concerned NLU reserves the right to reject the admission of a candidate.
Documents Required for CLAT 2025 Counselling
Candidates are requested to keep a soft/scanned copy of the following documents ready for upload:
- Grade 10 statement of marks*
- CLAT 2025 Admit Card*
- Grade 12 Statement of Marks*
- Character Certificate/Conduct Certificate from the Educational Institution last attended
- Transfer/Migration Certificate from the Educational Institution last attended
- Caste Certificate (SC, ST, OBC, etc.) if applied and allotted under the Reserved category of seats*
- PwD/SAP Certificate, if applied and allotted under the PwD category*
- Domicile/Residence Certificate, if applied and allotted under the domicile/resident category seat*
- Any other supporting documents to claim your seat for the category you have applied (e.g., Wards of Serving/Retired Defence Personnel, EWS certificate, Sons/daughters of Ex-servicemen/Defence service personnel etc.)*

CLAT cut-off is released seprately for the participating institutes. You must check the opening and closing ranks of the institute you are interested in. If you have met the cut-off, you can register and participate in the counseling.
