CLAT 2026 reservation criteria for all categories vary and each NLU follows a unique reservation policy. The CLAT total seats are guided by both national constitutional mandates and state-specific requirements. Whether you belong to a reserved category like SC, ST, OBC, or EWS, or you’re applying under NRI/NRI Sponsored or Domicile quotas, knowing the CLAT reservation criteria inside out is critical. As per reservation of CLAT 2026 exam, about
- 15% of CLAT total seats are reserved for SC
- 7.5% of CLAT total seats are reserved for ST students
- 27% of CLAT total seats are reserved for OBC-NCL students.
- 10% of seats are reserved for economically weaker sections
- About 36 seats of 30% of total intake have been set for female students.
- If you are a Karnataka student, about 25% of 30 seats will be reserved for you.
The Consortium of National Law Universities will publish the CLAT seat intake for 2026 on its official website. The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is conducted for admission to 4092 5-year LLB seats and 1,599 seats in LLM courses, including the NRI/ FN and supernumerary quota.
- Last year, the consortium notified an increase of NLSIU Bengaluru to 310 seats by including 10 additional seats for Karnataka students.
- RPNLU Prayagraj and IIULER Goa are now part of the Consortium of NLUs, which has further increased the CLAT seat intake 2026.
- A total of 26 National Law Universities and more than 60 law schools will accept scores of CLAT 2026 for admissions.

There are different categories considered for the reservation of seats with CLAT 2026. Given below are the percentage and number of seats as per different categories:
- Not all NLUs offer OBC-NCL reservations. It is present mainly in state-funded NLUs like RMNLU Lucknow, CNLU Patna, HNLU Raipur, and others.
- Horizontal reservation for female candidates is available in several NLUs like NLIU Bhopal, GNLU, HNLU, RMLNLU, and more.

Ques. What do I do if I don’t get reservations to NLUs?
Ans. Candidates who do not get reservations to NLUS through CLAT 2025 can apply to other colleges accepting CLAT scores. Many private and self-financed institutions accept CLAT scores.
Ques. Are reservations based on CLAT 2025 the same for all NLUS?
Ans. No, reservations for most NLUs are different and are based on their locality and state government. Each NLU will release their specific reservations with the release of CLAT 2025 Results.
Ques. Are there any changes that are introduced to Reservations made through CLAT 2025?
Ans. Any changes made for reservations will be announced by the NLU after CLAT Counselling begins. Changes made will be in accordance with the state government regulations.
Ques. As a scheduled class category candidate, how much should I score for CLAT 2025 to be eligible for reservations?
Ans. Candidates of the scheduled class category must score a minimum of 80 above to qualify for CLAT Reservation. 5% leeway is provided for the students.

With an AIR of 544 in the SC category, you will be able to get admission in many of the NLUs of India. Please check the expected cut-offs for the top NLUs from CLAT Cut-off.
