For now, the existing results will remain valid, and no rank changes will be made until further directions from the court. Counselling and admission activities are expected to continue as per the current schedule

The Allahabad High Court has put a temporary stay on the order that directed a revision of the CLAT 2026 merit list. The decision was taken by a division bench of Justice Saumitra Dayal Singh and Justice Vivek Saran on February 20, 2026, while hearing a special appeal filed by the Consortium of National Law Universities. This means that, for now, the existing CLAT 2026 results and merit list will continue, and no changes will be made until the court gives further directions.
The case is related to a dispute over one Logical Reasoning question in the CLAT exam. Earlier, a single-judge bench had asked the Consortium to revise the entire merit list after concerns were raised about the answer to that question. However, the Consortium challenged this order, arguing that changing the merit list at this stage would affect thousands of students and delay the admission process across National Law Universities.
Consortium’s Arguments in Court
In its appeal, the Consortium stated that the disputed question had already been reviewed by its Oversight Committee, which includes subject experts and retired judges. The committee had concluded that the answer key did not require any change. The Consortium also told the court that revising the entire merit list based on one question would disrupt the ongoing admission process and cause difficulties for thousands of students who are waiting for counselling and seat confirmation.

Court’s Interim Relief
After hearing the arguments, the division bench decided to stay the earlier order for the time being. The court observed that an immediate revision of the merit list could lead to confusion and delay in the admission schedule. The matter will now be heard in detail, and the final decision will be taken after examining all aspects of the case.
What This Means for Students
For candidates, this development means that the CLAT 2026 counselling and admission process is likely to continue as per the existing schedule. Students are advised not to panic and to follow only official updates released by the Consortium. The final verdict of the High Court will decide whether any changes are required in the results or the merit list.
