Microbiology is a branch of the biology of microscopic organisms - viruses, bacteria, mycoplasma, algae, fungi, slime moulds, and protozoa. Microbiologists are trained scientist who studies all these microscopic living organisms and the biological processes occurring in them. This includes the study of the origin, growth, chemical interactions and characteristics of microscopic organisms and some types of parasites and their vectors.
To become a Microbiologist, students need to start with an undergraduate microbiology course such as a B.Sc. in Microbiology, followed by a M.Sc. in Microbiology at the postgraduate level. For a BSc in Microbiology, a student must have completed class 12 with PCB and earned more than 50% of the possible points. A bachelor's course in microbiology takes 3 years to complete. A master's course typically takes 2-3 years.
The average Salary of a Microbiologist is INR 3.20 LPA. The average salary of a fresher after an MSc in Microbiology in India is INR 3 LPA. The highest salary for a Medical Microbiologist can earn up to INR 20.10 LPA.
