Fees and Financial Aid

For the first sem the fees was around 1.83 lakhs. For one year it will be around 3.2 lakhs i guess. They are few scholarships you can apply like Sartak. Sartak requires the annual income of your family. The college will provide more details about it after you join the college. I am not sure the scholarships before i didnt get any.

Faculty

Faculty student relationship is really good. You have to behave really good towards your family. Your marks will depend on that. As you all know nift doesn't really have any written exam , we have jury. Jury could be every hard to some peoplem. It depends on how well you prepared.

Fees and Financial Aid

We have to pay per semester fees which for the first year is 1,83,200. The next semester the fees might be the same or decrease as admission fee was included too in 1st semester fee. The fee structure is same regardless of reservation. There is a scholarship scheme called SARTHAK where 75% fee is waived if the annual income of the family is less than 2 lakhs. 50% fee is waived when the annual income of family lies between 2 to 4 lakhs and 25% of the fee is waived if the family annual income lies between 4 to 8 lakhs. The college will also look into the academic performance and attendance of the students before giving the scholarship.

Placement Experience

NIFT Kolkata provides campus placements. Semester 8 students are eligible to sit for the campus placement. Companies such as infosys, aditya birla group, zara, pantaloons come to offer jobs in their companies. The highest package offered is 12-13 lakhs and the average salary is 6-7 lakhs. Almost 50% of the students get placed every year. After getting the degree everyone desires to get a job.

Nift kannur is like a totally different place rather than Kannur city. If you can go in a flow it's awesome. You are free to do anything. Freedom in nift is the best thing I love. Here you will get to know all your seniors and juniors, all are so interactive and helpful. You should not be a part of crowd. There are many things you will come to know when you come in.

Placement Experience

Nift is providing good placements; in the past, they have also provided good placements. At NIFT kannur we will get placements, but not for every student and we will get a chance to work with designers. In nift kannur you can explore the companies and the job offers they are making.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees for nid is supposed to be paid in two instalments towards the beginning of each semester. The tuition fees for each semester are 183500.Hostel is for 6000 per semester and mess is 23120 each semester. Nid provides freeship to the students whose annual income is less than 500000 per annum and the distribution of the scholarships depends upon the availability of the fund and the number of students applying. To avail a scholarship you need to have a sgpa above 5.

Faculty

Usually there are around 2-3 faculty members to look after 20-30 students. Most of the times the faculty is really understanding and helpful and allows us for extension when we have valid issues. And talking of exams we don't have any written exams we have jury towrsds the end of each semester which is basically like interview in which you display all you assignments that you did over the year

The thing with faculty members is that it's a hit or a miss. Fortunately this year my faculties are all great. They are helpful and you can easily approach them whenever you have any doubts. So there are no written exams at my college and you are marked on the basis of your mid term, end term as well as the jury assignment held at the end of the semester. Things were not as good last year as some of my faculties were not as nice and they had a lot of ego and got too defensive when someone tried to question them. Some fo them were just not at par and were not providing me with the quality of education that i was paying so much for. Als another thing that happened was that they'd approve of an idea initially and then go against it on the final day of jury when you'd present it to the members. Another thing was that every faculty has a different design philosophy which might not align with another person's. This and the feuds betwenn the faculty and the jury member can cause a dent in yo

Campus Life

Well the students and the crowd in my college is a mixed bag. Some of them are great while some of them are examples of how reservation system should not be existing the Indian Education system. As for the fests that i are held in my college i think they are pretty small as compared to the ones that are held in private colleges that have almost the same fees. So i think that's unfair. I am part of one the clubs which again does not get the budget that it shoukd be getting for the events that happen. Sports is another big thing in my college. After the classes are over you will never find the gym, basketball court and the Badminton court to be empty. There are also some student run clubs out of which the theatre club and dance club are always quite active in giving us outstanding performances. The college also has an annual fest called Spectrum which was held in April this year. My favourite eveng in the fest was definitely the battle of the bands in which different bands competed.

Internships Opportunities

The students are required to do an internship after the 6th semester. They have a choice of opting for cooperated/design houses or craft-based internships as per their liking and interest. Cooperate companies like ABFRL, Reliance, Arvind, etc offer student internships to the students. The motto of these internships is for the students to understand the workings of the industry before their actual placements.

Course Curriculum Overview

I chose the Textile Design course since I was interested in learning about the technical details and making of fabrics. The curriculum for the same is very helpful in learning about everything a student of Textile Design looks forward to. There could be a little more approach towards integrating industry skills into the course along with the academic side of it.

Pros - The faculty members are very supportive with the work ethics. The idea of national institutes is to create a safe environment for students and yes no doubt the faculties do the same. They conduct session and classes outdoors arrange multiple trips bring in many guest faculties for better growth and enhancement in the area. They do work on idea of sharing experiences. Cons - design is a very subjective feild. Not everyone can understand the same variety of ideas. Which leads to biasness in evaluation of assignments.

Campus Life

The college has a very well maintained community : SAC Student activity Club. Which takes care of all the cultural functions takinh place in the campus. It has seperate posts for student council members. There are specific sports fest and sports day arrangement between different year students. Till now no inter college sports activities have been arranged which act as a barrier for physical growth. The college has a yearly fest mpdu where students display work activities stalls and performances.

Fees and Financial Aid

rs. 1,80,000.00/yr for 4 years is the fee structure for this course. Although during the admission, course fees are subject to change without prior notice is mentioned in fine print in the email. Fees should be cleared on december of the academic year. if not paid on time a late penalty fee of rs100 is added for each day of delay. additional university expenses like Yuva Raksha Insurance fees, Educational Document Verification Fees, University Registration fees etc. are to be paid by the student. No scholarships or Befenits for resevation are available as it is a private institute. While it is mentioned on ther socials that 95% campus placements can be achieved, it does not serve to be true as very less and unqualified companies are approached for said placements. When asked to he faculty about the placements and companies that putch, no coherant answer was given and about the package range, the students can expect a starting salary of rs. 25,000/month i.e. 3L/yr.

Course Curriculum Overview

Computer aided design (CAD) is something i wanted to learn to make designs which helped me choose this course. Subjects throughout 8 semesters include Design Foundation, CAD: Photoshop, CoralDraw, etc, Fashion concepts, Design management and entrepreneurship, portfolio development etc. Elective subjects such as micro economics, basics of management, EVS seem unnecessary to the course. Rest subjects help in practical knowledge which helps in real-world applications. Teachers are well knowledgeable and helpful although lack professionalism. The whole academic curriculum lags behind as it is dependant on Mumbai University for all of its desicion making. improvement can be brought if stricter measures and proper time management is implemented as all professors come to the lecture hall in the last 30minutes of the 60min lectures. Timetable making is extremely poor as students can be expected to arrive on sundays for lectures.

Only 7k to 8k students can qualify NIFT entrances out of 13-15 lacs student all over the country Most of the faculties are doctorate or they have completed masters from abroad. Exams are held in 3 terms-mid terms, end term and jury, and these exams r really easy to qualify for. If u have innovative and creativity then u can easily pass with good marks

Placement Experience

Students are provided an internship programme in their final year. Based on their performance, sometimes students get jobs in their intership companies. However, at the final semester, they get a chance to sit in campus placement in NIFT campuses like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata etc. Yes students from all over the Campuses go to these particular Campuses where various companies come for placements. Brands like adidas, lifestyles, park Avenue, nike, blackberry, Monte Carlo,h&m, future group, Sabyasachi etc. visit for campus placement. The average package students got is 3-5 lakh per annum. The highest package to date is 12 lakh. 100% student placement is possible if all the students are sincere at their works. Students get placed based on their portfolios. But one must need a minimum cgpa for attending campus placement. I'm had intrest in art and craft. And as a fashion enthusiast, I wanted to explore my design thinking skills and wanted to turn my interest into a profession. When I research it, I got to know that Textile Design will be best for me, and also I came to know about NIFT, which will be the best college for pursuing my career in fashion. They have 1:5 ratio of faculty, students. Faculties are very helpful. They give their best for students to understand all the basics. We also get classes from Guest Faculties. Course Curriculum Overview

I was passionate about Designing at that time. NIFT is a very respected government college in the field of Design and that's why I chose NIFT Kangra.Very fewer provisions of on-campus faculty for a batch of about 150 students (including all the other programs), only 15 faculty members were present. The ratio would be 10:1. However, various Guest Faculties used to come for a few subjects for a duration of 4 - 15 days as per requirement.Qualification: Some have done Maters in Arts, or some were Textile Designer, and some didn't have a qualification or not, we have had no idea. But the guest faculty who visited NIFT Kangra Campus had a Masters in Design such as Textiles, Visual Merchandising, Fashion Communication, etc. The teaching method was not extraordinary. It would have been great if students were taught basic things related to textiles such as dyeing or printing, maybe have extended the weaving subject duration. That would have been great. They majorly focused on the commercial aspect of Textile Designing like Print designing on a Computer (CAD) or by hand. There were a few theory classes, a few practical and some creative subject classes.Exams were conducted on a semester basis such as Summer exams and Winter exams. Besides, there was a continuous internal assessment of students. There were two types of exam:Theory Exam: Written Test fro all theory subjectsJury: Kind of Interview for all creative/practical subjects.Difficulty Level: Easy-Moderate

College Events

1) So, In the month of February, NIFT Kangra organizes a spectrum inviting various neighboring colleges. Good Food, Games, decorations, cultural activities, and live concerts. It was a hell of an event.2) Every Month of September or October, we used to organize a 10 days Durga Puja Food Fest. Something which our Batch in 2012 has introduced. Various Cultural and Sports Activities were organized by us. Apart from that a huge variety of food delicacies. Fun event and being the organizers it was the most fun. We used to organize Ramleela as well for which preparations would have started around a month back. We have had organized the Durga Puja Food Fest for consecutively 3 years starting from 2012 - 2014. 3) In the month of December, there is a Convocation, where all the NIFTs visit a particular campus to participate in cultural and sports activities. Never visited as it was polluted with politics :DYes, the Library had a significant range of quality books. One can issue 3-4 books at a time. The classroom had computers to accommodate a complete batch apart from the basic amenities. There was a Dance Club, literary Club, Hindi Club, Sports Club

Course Curriculum Overview

NIFT, Gandhinagar, has one of the most senior and expert faculty members. They have an ample amount of industrial experience and some of them are well known in the industry. Each faculty has a different teaching method depending upon the module. some believe in chalkboard and the presentations while others believe in practicality. One warning I would like to give is that the curriculum for textile design is extremely tedious and demands not only the college hours but also your sleeping hours. The faculty are extremely strict about the quality and the quantity of work.

Remarks

There is a girls hostel just for the freshers. The campus is well equipped with Wi-Fi facility and most of the classrooms have an AC installed. The Library is updated and has a material wing to explore the different materials and textiles. The labs are well equipped with extremely supportive lab assistants. One issue is that the weaving looms are not seated, so it's extremely tedious to work continuously for 10 hours.
