Course Curriculum Overview

4

To be honest i think my course is pretty relevant and will remain relevant for the years to come as man will never stop wearing clothes. Textile design plays a huge role in the fashion industry and will continue to do so in the future. As for the curriculum at my college it does teach me the traditional as well as the modern methods and approaches to design. Design education in india is not yet a very maintstream or well known thing but i think institutions like NIFT and NID are doing justice to it. My faculty is very strict and expect a certain level of work which if not delivered you will face the repercussions for. As for the final marking which is the jury assignment it is like doomsday for every student in my college. It is quite difficult and challenging as well as pretty time taking. All I'd say is that it's not for the weak hearted

Placement Experience

2

The placements at my college to be very honest with you are not as great especially if you consider the fact that you're spending so much money in the college fees. So NIFT has a centralized placement system where it is only held in the top 5 colleges and the students from the other nifts have to go there for theirs. From what I've heard and read the placement are always pretty disappointing and bad. Many students end up not getting placed or taking up offers thag are not fair for the amount of time and energy you've put into into it. The biggest con of joining my college is infact the placement as many people don't consider it a good investment for it's bad returns.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees is quite a lot considering that it is a government college. The total fees is around 12 to 15 lakhs and if you include the living expenses the figure easily crosses 20 lakh. There are schemes available for which you need to have an annual parental income of less than 8lpa

Campus Life

3

Well the students and the crowd in my college is a mixed bag. Some of them are great while some of them are examples of how reservation system should not be existing the Indian Education system. As for the fests that i are held in my college i think they are pretty small as compared to the ones that are held in private colleges that have almost the same fees. So i think that's unfair. I am part of one the clubs which again does not get the budget that it shoukd be getting for the events that happen. Sports is another big thing in my college. After the classes are over you will never find the gym, basketball court and the Badminton court to be empty. There are also some student run clubs out of which the theatre club and dance club are always quite active in giving us outstanding performances. The college also has an annual fest called Spectrum which was held in April this year. My favourite eveng in the fest was definitely the battle of the bands in which different bands competed.

Hostel Facilities

2

I stayed in the hostel last year and overall I'd say the experience was fine.everyone had problems with the warden as she was not very understanding of the student's needs and was also a very lazy person. The receptionist was nice though so if we had any problems like any electrical or plumbing issue we would just go to her and she'd get it taken care of in time. Tgere are two blocks in the hostel and each building has 48 rooms. Out of all around 5 to 6 rooms are single occupancy while the others are all double occupancy. The biggest problem which i personally faced was that you can't change your roommate once you have been alloted one and have to stick with them for the whole year and on top of that the warden not being able to understand that you can't live with your roommate as it got unbearable and having to deal with all that stuff when you have submissions to make can really take a toll on your mental health

Admission

I had not applied to many colleges as the college entrance exams were overlapping with the schedule for my pre boards and practicals. So for the NIft entrance exam i had joined a coaching online to guide me through the whole process. The entrance consists of three tests which you have to give. The first one is the Creative ability test (CAT) which consists of the drawing part of it. The second one is the General Ability Test (GAT) which consists of the logical reasoning and english as well as the english comprehensions and the general knowledge test. If you are able to clear the first two exams you are qualified to give the third exam which is the Situation test in which you are provided with a question and ypu have to design as well as prototype and make a model for it. Then as for the other exams i gave which was UCEED i think i did not make it as i was not able to give enough time to it for preparation which was needed as i had other things going on not to mention how tough the exam

Faculty

4

The thing with faculty members is that it's a hit or a miss. Fortunately this year my faculties are all great. They are helpful and you can easily approach them whenever you have any doubts. So there are no written exams at my college and you are marked on the basis of your mid term, end term as well as the jury assignment held at the end of the semester. Things were not as good last year as some of my faculties were not as nice and they had a lot of ego and got too defensive when someone tried to question them. Some fo them were just not at par and were not providing me with the quality of education that i was paying so much for. Als another thing that happened was that they'd approve of an idea initially and then go against it on the final day of jury when you'd present it to the members. Another thing was that every faculty has a different design philosophy which might not align with another person's. This and the feuds betwenn the faculty and the jury member can cause a dent in yo

Course Curriculum Overview:

Nid follows a old style curriculum which has its own pros and cons. Here we prefer sticking to the basics in the beginning we believe in building our base rather than rushing. We imply more of practical knowledge rather than theoretical basically we experiment live with our ideas a lot and we are allowed to explore anything that we are interested in
