Life at fashion college.

Computer aided design (CAD) is something i wanted to learn to make designs which helped me choose this course. Subjects throughout 8 semesters include Design Foundation, CAD: Photoshop, CoralDraw, etc, Fashion concepts, Design management and entrepreneurship, portfolio development etc. Elective subjects such as micro economics, basics of management, EVS seem unnecessary to the course. Rest subjects help in practical knowledge which helps in real-world applications. Teachers are well knowledgeable and helpful although lack professionalism. The whole academic curriculum lags behind as it is dependant on Mumbai University for all of its desicion making. improvement can be brought if stricter measures and proper time management is implemented as all professors come to the lecture hall in the last 30minutes of the 60min lectures. Timetable making is extremely poor as students can be expected to arrive on sundays for lectures.

college has no connections. For 3month internship, students are hired in strange comapnies which shut down within a year or so. after the intenship and coming back to the institute a jury is held in which students present the work done in the internship and how they implement said work into their projects and portfolio. A textile design graduate can get tasks as a designer, merchandiser, professor, etc in various sectors such as Apparel designing/manufacturing, Home textiles designer, education, etc.

avg package of 3l/yr is offered for campus placements. i do not wish for any campus placements as they are not apt for me and the college basically lies about its achievements. he departmen does not know of any companies that visit the college for placements so this is a big red flag for me. i plan to get a masters degree after my graduation from SIDT. The faculty have no connections with people outside of their bubble which is even more difficult as he students who looks up at them can be severly disappointed. The website mentioned 95% placements, which in my opinion are all lies. Kindly enquire about all of this before admitting in this institute as the websites and socials can be extremely misleading.

rs. 1,80,000.00/yr for 4 years is the fee structure for this course. Although during the admission, course fees are subject to change without prior notice is mentioned in fine print in the email. Fees should be cleared on december of the academic year. if not paid on time a late penalty fee of rs100 is added for each day of delay. additional university expenses like Yuva Raksha Insurance fees, Educational Document Verification Fees, University Registration fees etc. are to be paid by the student. No scholarships or Befenits for resevation are available as it is a private institute. While it is mentioned on ther socials that 95% campus placements can be achieved, it does not serve to be true as very less and unqualified companies are approached for said placements. When asked to he faculty about the placements and companies that putch, no coherant answer was given and about the package range, the students can expect a starting salary of rs. 25,000/month i.e. 3L/yr.

There is no campus and the faculty does not have good relations with other departments of the institute. Because of this the student body suffers a lot. Each department has it own separate Social Event and extreme hostility and partiality can be observed. SIDT has its own social event called Elysian in which sports and cultural events are held. Apart from Elysian, another event called Enchante is celebrated in which all final year students of Design department prepare a fashion show with the hired models. Jury from famous backgrounds are expected in attendance for this event. Through out the academic years, fun programs such as dress-up-days are held to showcase the creativity of students.

SIDT is affialted with Garware Institute of Career Education an Development (GICED) under Mumbai Univeristy. You can get into this institute if you have passed your 12th board or equivalence, through an entrance examof 100 marks. The entrance exam includes online paper (google forms) filled with mcqs and lastly of a drawing exam, afer passing this you get through the second round of personal interview and later on results are obtained online, via email. The course is of 4 years so its fees consist of Rs. 1,80,000/yr i.e. Rs. 8,00,000 for 8 semesters. since this is a private college, no scholarships are available. Although you can pay the fee in installments, the whole amount should be paid by December in the academic year. Offline examination is conducted in which theory, practicals and viva/jury is held. unit exams of 20/10 marks and final of 25 marks out of which 50% marks are passing.
