Course Curriculum Overview
I chose the Textile Design course since I was interested in learning about the technical details and making of fabrics. The curriculum for the same is very helpful in learning about everything a student of Textile Design looks forward to. There could be a little more approach towards integrating industry skills into the course along with the academic side of it.
Internships Opportunities
The students are required to do an internship after the 6th semester. They have a choice of opting for cooperated/design houses or craft-based internships as per their liking and interest. Cooperate companies like ABFRL, Reliance, Arvind, etc offer student internships to the students. The motto of these internships is for the students to understand the workings of the industry before their actual placements.
Placement Experience
The placements of the college are very good. Since the placements happen mostly at the top 3 colleges, all students get an equal opportunity to sit and get the jobs they aspire to. The placements happen during/after the 8th semester.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are different scholarships that the college provides according to the different requirements of students. One of the scholarships awarded to students is called UDAAN. It can even be taken when there are exchange programs offered by the college. Even the placements at the college are very helpful and provide with several opportunities.
Campus Life
The annual college fest is called SPECTRUM which is the most anticipated celebration by every student and faculty alike. Even the festival celebrations are done for every occasion in a very grand manner. There are several clubs like culture, photography, ethics, environment, etc, which all consist of students who are extremely passionate about their causes.
Hostel Facilities
There is a hostel facility provided to all first-year female students. This makes the stay very easy for them in a new city. The meals provided in the mess are also very appetizing and there is a new variety provided everyday.
Admission
The eligibility for the course is passing 12th grade through CBSE/SSC or any equivalent board. There is no stream preference and hence can be taken by any student. The application form comes on the official website of NIFT. The exam takes place once every year with 2 levels. One is the written test which is divided into a creative ability/drawing exam and a logical reasoning and general ability exam. after clearing this the students are required to give a situation test where they have to make a model about the prompt provided to them.
Faculty
The student-to-faculty ratio can range between 30:1 to 40:1. The faculties appointed are all experts in their fields. They often encourage students to ask questions and interact with them to have enhanced learning. They are all extremely approachable and look forward to helping out their students.
Interview Experience
There is a situation test that is taken in the second round. Since the models have to be made on the spot, it has to be very well planned and executed. This requires a considerate amount of preparation and skill and needs to be practiced well in advanced.
