Course Curriculum Overview
First year is the foundation year where students of all departments are together taught the same things of all departments. Yarn, wood, ceramics, drawing are some of the subjects taught to every student before segregating everyone into their departments from second year.
Internships Opportunities
No stipend is given to students while doing internships. Many companies across the country from different states provide internship opportunities. Internship is done on the major subject specialisation.
Placement Experience
NIFT Kolkata provides campus placements. Semester 8 students are eligible to sit for the campus placement. Companies such as infosys, aditya birla group, zara, pantaloons come to offer jobs in their companies. The highest package offered is 12-13 lakhs and the average salary is 6-7 lakhs. Almost 50% of the students get placed every year. After getting the degree everyone desires to get a job.
Fees and Financial Aid
We have to pay per semester fees which for the first year is 1,83,200. The next semester the fees might be the same or decrease as admission fee was included too in 1st semester fee. The fee structure is same regardless of reservation. There is a scholarship scheme called SARTHAK where 75% fee is waived if the annual income of the family is less than 2 lakhs. 50% fee is waived when the annual income of family lies between 2 to 4 lakhs and 25% of the fee is waived if the family annual income lies between 4 to 8 lakhs. The college will also look into the academic performance and attendance of the students before giving the scholarship.
Campus Life
The college conducts fests named spectrum and converge. Converge takes place in the mid October and spectrum occurs in mid feb to march. This is very secular college and here every state festival is celebrated very enthusiastically. Our college has 4 clubs namely literally club, cultural club, social club and sports club.
Hostel Facilities
A room with a table, chair, shared rack and almirah is provided. The rooms are twin sharing and quad sharing alloted on lottery system. The food quality us not that goos in the hostel as compared to the amount of mess charges paid to them. Affordability to get a hostel is good and registration process include paying put hostel fee from the official website and then mailing the authorities to allot a room.
Admission
I didn't apply for any other college as i was very much determined to get into this college as this is the best reputed government college to pursue designing. After the declaration of results we have to wait for the counselling process to occur based on rank eligibility. Then preference list is updated after which they release the allotment list where we have the option of upgrading the choice or sliding the choice or freezing the choice. Upgrading means preferring much better course and campus as per preference list. Sliding means much better course in the same campus and freezing means satisfied with the preference alloted. This goes till 4 rounds. Then comes accepting the seat and paying the fee wwhich includes admission fee and semester 1 fees.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is same as teacher to student ratio in school. It's approximately 1:35 in the college. The faculties are really good and approachable. They give personal attention to each and every student. In nift the exams are known as juries. So juries are tough if you're not that prepared. If you're prepared pretty well then is easy for you to appear.
