UILS B.Com+LLB FAQs

Ques. Is B.Com+LLB (Hons.) at UILS, Chandigarh University approved by the Bar Council of India? Can I practise law after this degree?

Ans. Yes, the B.Com+LLB (Hons.) programme at UILS, Chandigarh University is approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI). Upon successful completion of the 5-year integrated programme, graduates are eligible to enrol with the State Bar Council and practise as advocates in Indian courts after clearing the All India Bar Examination (AIBE). The BCI recognition ensures the degree is valid for legal practice across India, and the commerce background additionally equips graduates for specialised roles in taxation law, company law, and financial litigation.

Ques. Is B.Com+LLB better than BA+LLB or BBA+LLB? Which one should a commerce student choose?

Ans. For students from the commerce stream, B.Com+LLB (Hons.) is the most natural fit as it builds on their existing knowledge of accountancy, economics, and business studies while adding a strong legal foundation. The programme is ideal for those targeting careers in taxation law, GST advisory, company law, banking law, and financial compliance. BA+LLB is better suited for students targeting litigation, judiciary, or civil services, while BBA+LLB is more management-oriented. Commerce students who want to combine their financial acumen with legal expertise should opt for B.Com+LLB. The semester fee for B.Com+LLB (Rs. 1,00,000) is also slightly lower than BA+LLB (Rs. 1,12,000) and BBA+LLB (Rs. 1,08,500).

Ques. What commerce and law subjects are covered in the B.Com+LLB curriculum at UILS, Chandigarh University?

Ans. The B.Com+LLB (Hons.) curriculum at UILS integrates commerce subjects such as Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Auditing, Taxation (Direct and Indirect), Business Economics, and Financial Management with law subjects including Constitutional Law, Contract Law, Company Law, Taxation Law, Intellectual Property Rights, Labour Law, and Criminal Law. The programme also includes practical components like moot courts, legal drafting, and internships. The curriculum is updated regularly to align with current industry requirements and is comparable with top national and international law schools.

Ques. What are the career opportunities after B.Com+LLB (Hons.) from UILS, Chandigarh University?

Ans. B.Com+LLB graduates from UILS can pursue careers as tax lawyers or GST consultants; as company secretaries (after clearing CS exams); as compliance officers in banks, NBFCs, and financial institutions; as advocates specialising in taxation, company, or banking law; in sales tax and excise departments; in business consultancies and legal process outsourcing (LPO) firms; in educational institutions as law or commerce faculty; and in government legal services. The dual degree also opens doors to LLM specialisations in taxation or commercial law, and CA/CS qualifications for those seeking advanced professional credentials.

Ques. Can a student from a non-commerce background (Science or Arts) apply for B.Com+LLB at UILS, Chandigarh University?

Ans. Yes, the B.Com+LLB (Hons.) programme at UILS, Chandigarh University is open to students from any stream (Science, Commerce, or Arts) who have passed 10+2 with a minimum of 55% marks from a recognised board. There is no stream restriction. However, students from a non-commerce background may find the commerce subjects in the initial semesters slightly challenging, as the curriculum includes accountancy, financial management, and taxation. The university's FCBCS system and open electives provide flexibility to bridge any knowledge gaps.

Ques. How does the B.Com+LLB programme at CU prepare students for CA, CS, or other professional exams alongside the degree?

Ans. The B.Com+LLB curriculum at UILS is structured to provide a strong foundation in both commerce and law, which is directly relevant to professional exams like CA (Chartered Accountancy), CS (Company Secretary), and CMA (Cost and Management Accountancy). Subjects like Financial Accounting, Auditing, Taxation, and Company Law covered in the programme overlap significantly with the CA Foundation and Intermediate syllabi, and with the CS Executive programme. Students can pursue these professional courses alongside their degree. The university also provides in-house preparation support for competitive exams, and the legal training from UILS gives an added advantage in understanding corporate and tax law aspects of these professional qualifications.
