UILS LL.B. FAQs

Ques. Does Chandigarh University accept CLAT scores for LLB (3-year) admission?

Ans. No, Chandigarh University does not accept CLAT scores for admission to its LLB (3-year) program. Admission is exclusively through CUCET (Chandigarh University Common Entrance Test), which is the university's own entrance and scholarship test. CLAT scores are accepted only at National Law Universities (NLUs) across India. Candidates who have appeared for CLAT but wish to join CU must separately register and appear for CUCET at cucet.cuchd.in.

Ques. What is the difference between the 3-year LLB and the 5-year integrated BA LLB/BBA LLB/BCom LLB programs at UILS?

Ans. The 3-year LLB is a post-graduation law program open only to candidates who already hold a bachelor's degree in any discipline. It focuses exclusively on legal subjects across 6 semesters. The 5-year integrated programs (BA LLB, BBA LLB, BCom LLB) are open to Class 12 pass students and combine an undergraduate degree in arts, business, or commerce with law over 10 semesters. The 3-year LLB is ideal for graduates who want to transition into law, while the integrated programs are better suited for students who decide on a law career right after school.

Ques. What are the career opportunities after completing LLB from UILS, Chandigarh University?

Ans. LLB graduates from UILS have a wide range of career options. They can practice as advocates in district courts, high courts, or the Supreme Court. By clearing judiciary exams conducted by Public Service Commissions, they can become civil judges or magistrates. Other options include working as a legal adviser or in-house counsel for corporations, joining the civil services (IAS/IPS/IFS), working as a public prosecutor or solicitor general, or pursuing higher studies like LLM or PhD in Law. UILS students have been placed at Punjab and Haryana High Court, Delhi High Court, and Shimla High Court, among others.

Ques. How does the CUCET scholarship work, and is it renewable every year?

Ans. The CUCET scholarship is awarded based on the score obtained in the CUCET examination at the time of admission. The scholarship percentage is fixed at the time of admission and continues for the entire duration of the program (all 6 semesters), provided the student maintains satisfactory academic performance and attendance. For example, a student scoring above 90% in CUCET gets a 100% tuition fee waiver every semester, effectively making the program free of tuition charges. The scholarship applies only to the tuition fee component (Rs. 79,500 per semester); examination fee and security deposit are payable separately.

Ques. What practical training facilities are available for LLB students at UILS?

Ans. UILS provides a well-equipped Moot Court Room that simulates real courtroom proceedings, enabling students to practice drafting, pleadings, and oral arguments. The Madhyastha Centre of Excellence in ADR offers hands-on training in arbitration, mediation, conciliation, and negotiation through simulations, workshops, and live projects with courts and tribunals. A Communications Lab and Soft Skills Lab are also available for developing client interaction and advocacy skills. Students also undertake court visits, jail visits, and police station visits as part of the experiential learning curriculum.

Ques. Is the LLB degree from Chandigarh University recognized for practicing law in India?

Ans. Yes, the LLB program at UILS, Chandigarh University is approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI), which is the statutory body that regulates legal education and the legal profession in India. Graduates of this program are eligible to enroll with the State Bar Council and practice as advocates in Indian courts after clearing the All India Bar Examination (AIBE). Chandigarh University is also a NAAC A+ accredited institution, and the degree is recognized by UGC, ensuring its validity for higher studies and government employment as well.
