Founded in 1981, Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR), previously called the College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneshwar (CET BBSR). OUTR is approved by AICTE and affiliated with the Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Rourkela. NAAC has accredited the university with Grade A. OUTR NIRF Ranking makes it the 7th best in Odisha, and in the band of 201-300 top engineering institutes in the country in 2024. Admissions at OUTR are based on a merit system that relies on the OJEE and JEE Mains test scores. After qualifying in the OJEE, students must register and attend the OJEE counselling. OUTR Placements 2025

OUTR placement rates have been significantly consistent, with 70% of students getting placed for the last few years. The students begin preparing to sit for interviews from the 3rd year of their college tenure. Companies like Accenture, L&T, TCS, Amazon, Google, and Microsoft are the top recruiters. Students’ reports suggest that Deloitte has been known to offer the best salary packages. The highest package through the OUTR Placement cell has been INR 42 LPA, however, they usually average out at INR 6.7 LPA as of 2024. The placement report for 2025 has not been released yet.

OUTR Scholarships 2025

The university offers two merit-based scholarships to students that offer various cash compensations. The Central and Foreign Affairs Scholarship (CAFAS) and the OUTR Merit Scholarship award INR 10,000 per year to qualifying students. Additionally, OUTR students who maintain in the top 20% of their class get compensated with INR 400 every month. Ques. What is the minimum requirement to be placed through OUTR?

Ans. One must have scored higher than 60% aggregate in their 10+2 or equivalent education, should not have any active backlogs in the semester they choose to sit for placements, must have done relevant internships, and have an average of 7-7.5 CGPA uptill the semester in which they sit for placements.

As this is a leading college of the state the brighter students opt this college after NITs.
As it is situated in the core of capital, job opportunities and surroundings are up to the mark.
The hostel food quality and overall teaching methods are excellent.

Dislikes

There is not ample use of land area as more of the land are forest.
Laboratories are needed to be furnished well and extra facility should be given to pupils

Placement scenario in campus, highest and average package being offered

7th Semester onwards the students are eligible for placement. A wide variety of companies in both core and non-core come every year and comparably 500 of 800 students hold the job offers. The highest package offered last year was 44lpa by Microsoft. Average package is 5.5lpa. One can opt for higher studies like masters in the same college or in other IITs or NITs by attempting GATE.

Internship opportunities provided by the college

Maximum students go for doing self internship to companies like DRDO, HALL, RSP, East Coast Railway, NALCO, TPCODL etc. Non-core students may choose internship or not but for core field students it is mandatory.

College events, various clubs and facilities available in campus

Annual cultural fest i.e. xtasy and tech fest i.e. Perception take place every year to inspire students in order to exercise their curriculum. A good many books of several publications are available in the library though some of them are torn and old. Classrooms are of average size holding 70-80 strength and having 8 fans and adequate lights. Every year the engineer's cup and annual sports are arranged by the sport's club. There are several clubs like energy, spectrum, Zairza, Cetadel, Amuza, Arpegio, Aerospace etc.

What is the total fees of the course and scholarship availability?

The fees for general courses like Electrical, Mechanical etc is Rs. 32400 per year whereas for self sustaining courses like CSE and IT it is 77000 per year. Each year the college provides it's own scholarship of Rs. 10000 to the top 10% meritorious students. A good many companies come here to hire the students. According to the previous year's data the highest was 44 lpa and average was 5.5lpa.

Students view on course , faculties and examination pattern

I felt this was the most demanding course that I should opt for in the advanced era of AI. The course curriculum covers all the relevant topics to enable one to stand tall. Here every section containing 60 students have two faculties assigned as their advisors. Each field has 4 to 5 highly qualified faculties and they offer a decent learning process. Exams are conducted strictly. Each year has two semesters and two internals .

What are the facilities provided in the hostel ?

The hostel facilities are satisfactory. There are 5 hostels 4 inside campus and one outside for freshers(two for boys and two for girls). Each room contains 3 beds, one lighting system, 4 sockets and one fan. Meals are taste-worthy in some hostels and somewhere the quality is average. Several private hostels are also there in the locality to accommodate pupils.

What is the admission procedure followed in college?

You have to attend the all India level Joint Entrance Examination and should have a satisfactory rank. Then go for OJEE counselling in the official website of OJEE. You can find all the details about application form, fees and dates. There are some reservations for SC/ST and physically handicapped ones. The admission process is fair enough.

The other college I applied was VSSUT burla. Both cet and vssut being govt college. It seemed there's no difference between them. I chosed cet cause as it is my hometown and it's an urban area. Good for communication and exposure.

The admission process is simple . Appear JEE . Score a better rank like near to 3 Lac then apply for seat allocation im OJEE . I apploed for IGIT Sarang and VSSUT Burla as well. But liked this seat with branch as it got in the 1st round itself

Likes

Campus life is amazing . We have a SAC area which is a go-to hangout place. Placement rate is high.
Things i like is the kind of food the hostel mess and the college canteen has .

Dislikes

Facilities should be more adequate and useful.

Admission:

I chose this only beacause of its location as Bhubaneswar is quite more exciting and happening place , I did not get rejected rather i chose this seat. I appeared for JEE mains which i cleared and aplied for OJEE councelling in which i got the CSe branch in the mock allotment and IT branch in the 1st around itself. I feel atleast 3 Lac rank is amust to reach OUTR

Likes

Social life is quite exciting as there are numerous clubs here as well as some societies .
I really like the facilities here like college bus is there for pick up and drop then we E drive for rental purpose.

Dislikes

I really dont like the management of classes and labs as they are not at all flexible.
Infrastructure is still under development. Campus is not that good looking or attractive.
Personal development is quite underrated just because of study pressure

Admission:

i did apply for IIiT and VSSUT but could not clear the cut off but i am happy as i accepted this seat in one of the best universities in ODISHA . So as of now the procedure is simple you should clear JEE mains cut off like for GEN 1 lac rank or 3 lac then fore reserved categories upto 5 l;ac then apply for seat councelling in which you will be alloted a seat .

I really enjoy my time in the Campus. Being around students with innovative minds. Placement rate is far high and that's really amazing.

Dislikes

Infrastructure is still under development. Campus is not too huge.
Social interactions have been quite restricted here or limited
I really do not like the management as they put a lot of pressure on attendance rather than merit.

I could not clear cutoff for CSE in BURLA VSSUT but I am glad that I chose this college. Its placement way better than any other state college or university. No i was not rejected. Its aprocedure. First I attempted JEE mains then in the OJEE seat allotment rounds i got this seat. Minimum Cutoff could possibly be 3 lac rank this year

I like the classroom teaching as it is tge the most orthodox state college which has now turned into an autonomous university

Dislikes

I feel there should more number of digitised labs and smart classrooms
Infrastructure is still under development. Overall the campus is nice .

Likes

I like the atmosphere of classroom and labs. Students are quite encouraging and supportive.
Campus is still under development but is nice and huge. The curriculum is quite helpful in personality growth in both academics and cocurricular wise.

Dislikes

Classrooms need renovation . Too old. Very few smart classrooms are there.
Could not find any area or society or club of my interest

Admission:

I applied to VSSUT Burla. I dint get rejeced rather i chose this seat in this college just because of its nice placement rate. You need to first attempt JEE then apply for online councelling through OJEE then wait for rounds. The basic cutoff is minimum #300000 rank

What is the average package offered to the B.Tech graduates of VSSUT, Burla and CET, Bhubaneswar?

CET Bhubaneswar has recently released the placement details according to which a total of 649 job offers were made to 474 students. The highest package offered to graduates stood at INR 44.80 LPA whereas the average package stood at INR 5.85 LPA. The lowest package offered was INR 3 LPA. The Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering students bagged the highest number of offers during CET BBSR placements 2023.

VSSUT Burla has not released this year's placement statistics yet so I will be mentioning last year’s for reference. During the placement drive, 773 students received 750 job offers. The company that offered the maximum job offers was GenC followed by Wipro (75) and Infosys (60). The highest package was recorded at INR 17.34 LPA while the VSSUT Burla average package stood at INR 6.05 LPA.

CET offers B.Tech under 9 specializations, M.Tech under 16 specializations, M.Sc, MCA, B.Plan and Ph.D courses for which admissions are on the basis of JEE Main, GATE, OJEE entrance exam. You can apply online for the admissions.

Admission to CET Bhubaneswar M.Sc is done based on merit in the last qualifying exam and not any entrance exam.
