Admissions to the University of Alberta are offered across multiple intakes throughout the year. However, availability depends on the program and level of study. Currently, most programs are preparing applications for Fall 2027, while many programs are already closed for Fall 2026. Key intake timelines include:

  • Fall (September): Main intake with the largest number of programs
  • Winter (January): Limited program availability
  • Spring (May) and Summer (July): Offered for selected graduate programs

For undergraduate programs, Fall 2026 deadlines mostly ranged between April and June 2026, while graduate programs follow intake-based deadlines such as July 1 (September intake) and November 1 (January intake).

Admission requirements at the University of Alberta vary by study level but generally follow a similar structure. For undergraduate admissions, Indian applicants can apply using Class 10 results and predicted Class 12 grades for early admission, followed by official Class 12 results for final admission. Mathematics in Class 12 is required for Engineering, Business, and Science programs.

For graduate programs, applicants usually need a relevant bachelor’s degree with at least 60% marks or a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, along with English language test scores (IELTS 6.5 / TOEFL 90 / PTE 61). Supporting documents such as transcripts, a CV, and a statement of intent are also required. Professional programs such as the MBA may also require GMAT/GRE scores, work experience, and interviews.

The university does not officially publish its admission rate, but third-party estimates suggest a University of Alberta acceptance rate of around 52% for undergraduate programs and about 60% for graduate programs, indicating moderate selectivity.

University of Alberta Admission Decision Timeline

At UAlberta, admission decisions are released on a rolling basis, meaning applications are reviewed as they become complete. International applicants are usually notified 4-6 weeks after all documents are submitted. Student discussions on Reddit cite that early applicants with proper documents are notified within 2 weeks.

Most offers are issued before April 1 for the Fall intake. Admission updates are posted on the U of A Launchpad portal and sent via email notifications.

University of Alberta Acceptance Rate and Enrollment

The University of Alberta does not publicly publish its acceptance rate. Third-party sources often cite that the university has an estimated acceptance rate of around 52% for undergraduate programs and 60% for graduate programs. Considering this, the University of Alberta is moderately selective. Student reviews on community platforms emphasize applying early with proper documentation.

Currently, the university has 46,200+ students across all campuses in Canada. Being the main campus, the North Campus in Edmonton alone has 38,000 students. Around 8,500+ of its total students are international.

Tip for Indian students: If your Class 12 results are not yet declared, you can still apply to the University of Alberta using Class 11 marks and predicted Class 12 scores. Admission may be granted conditionally, but it will be confirmed only if your final Class 12 results meet the predicted grades and program requirements. If the final marks are significantly lower, the admission offer may be withdrawn.

University of Alberta has a moderately selective admissions process with clear academic and language requirements for undergraduate, graduate, and MBA programs. While the Fall intake remains the primary admission cycle, many graduate programs close applications several months in advance, making it important for applicants to track deadlines carefully.

Scholarship

  • I did receive a scholarship for my course. If anyone is admitted in the masters in chemical engineering they automatically receive scholarship of CAD $27,000 per year for two years.
  • There is no other eligibility criteria for this; we just need an offer letter from the chemical engineering department. Every single student of chemical engineering gets this scholarship for their masters and PhD degree.

Considering education quality and fees, this was the best possible university. The college does provide good competition and educational facilities and also good friends which honestly I'm lucky to have. So I would say my experience has been pretty good.

Overview

I think the your experience in college is what you make of it. If you go in knowing exactly what you want to do with your career and use college as a means of getting there, then you may miss out on campus activities, meeting new people, networking, developing yourself, etc. it’s not a bad route to go because it gives you focus but there may be things that you may wish you would’ve taken the time out to experience while in college.

My University experience is good. My first 2 months were worst, later its a piece of cake. I've applied for 6 Universities. Got admitted in all of them. But Ualberta is ranked #4 in Canada. So, i choose this.

For Post graduates, we have to find jobs individually. But our faculties would be more than happy to help us in that. So that won't be an issue excluding recession.

Overview

University of Alberta is ranked 4 all over Canada for their education and student services. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Weather here is also not that bad and people can adjust easily in this location. Part time minimum wage is also more in Alberta than any other province in Canada. Taxes are also the lowest among all other provinces. University provides ample opportunities to network and meet industry professionals to build a good relationship which might help students find a job. Career events are organized on a regular basis which help students on building resume, help in writing research papers, meet and greet people from different backgrounds. All in all it is a great place to study and live for students. Rental apartments are also cheaper in this province. Rest depends on students skills and experience to get a job. University provides all the support in building you professionally.
