The University of Alberta offers its student accommodation services on a first-come, first-served basis. You can also stay at nearby houses of local students who host international candidates. The University of Alberta is quite beautiful and picturesque. The cost of housing is higher due to its location. From the campus you can walk down to Whyte Avenue for shopping, eating and visiting the numerous bars and lounges. The main campus is huge and the winters are a bit cold. The temperature is usually in minus degrees.

The accommodations at the university are provided with complete support and services. Because of its large population, there are a large number of clubs and causes to join. These clubs range from Religion to Politics, Self-improvement to Women’s Rights. The University Hospital and tons of affordable accommodations are all within walking distance. To apply for one of the accommodations at the University of Alberta, you will first be required to apply for admission at the University of Alberta, however, getting accepted in the intended program is not essential for accommodation application.

For international students staying outside the campus, searching for a perfect neighbourhood can be tough. The neighbourhoods that are close to University of Alberta with good bike access and safety would include:

  • Avonmore
  • Bonnie Doon
  • King Edward Park (stay away from the east side of this community past 75th street as it’s a bit sketchy)
  • Hazeldean

If you prefer a quieter environment, neighbourhoods like Belgravia or Windsor Park may be more suitable for your needs.

  • I find my accommodation through website. My monthly rent is CAD$ 600 which includes heat and water and the apartment was fully furnished like they provided the gas stove, fridge, oven, dishwasher and a separate laundry space with washing machines. I don’t face any difficulty in finding accommodation.
  • For future I would recommend join as many groups as you can so that you can interact with your future roommates and get to know about them. My apartment has a drive of 10 min from the university. Most of the Indian students stays in an apartment.

Living on campus is quite expensive around 16k CAD for just 8 months whereas living off campus is around 800 to 900 per month including rent and food.

Considering education quality and fees, this was the best possible university. The college does provide good competition and educational facilities and also good friends which honestly I'm lucky to have. So I would say my experience has been pretty good.

I was living near southgate mall in an apartment owned by Park Place. The neighbourhood was really good with parks and sport facility near my apartment building.

It was a good experience as a whole. But the major drawback is not having proper guidance on getting scholarships or grants.

I live off campus.

I think the your experience in college is what you make of it. If you go in knowing exactly what you want to do with your career and use college as a means of getting there, then you may miss out on campus activities, meeting new people, networking, developing yourself, etc. it’s not a bad route to go because it gives you focus but there may be things that you may wish you would’ve taken the time out to experience while in college.

I lived in residence for my first year and currently live off campus. Both have been very fun and affordable. I chose to share a room for my first year but currently share a 2 bedroom apartment with my room mate.

It’s a fun, educational experience. Definitely gets stressful around exam season and before the submission of huge assignments but the winding down is just as enjoyable and there is always something going on in the university that helps you wind down.

My room is shared accommodation. We live 6 people in our condo. The rent is 1670$ (270$/head) Groceries are 1200$ (200$/head) Wifi 90$ (15$/head) Electricity depends. We have winter rebates, where our price for each unit is reduced by 40%. Other miscellaneous expenses would 100-200$ In Total, average spend for a person would be 750-1000$

My University experience is good. My first 2 months were worst, later its a piece of cake. I've applied for 6 Universities. Got admitted in all of them. But Ualberta is ranked #4 in Canada. So, i choose this.

Yes, free WiFi/heat/water/electricity are included. My rental is about 500CAD per month (again, differs year by year). But laundry is not free, it's 2.00CAD for washing and 1.75 for drying. There are lots of restaurants nearby, so you can easily find your favorite food if you don't want to cook.

It's a Canadian university with low tuition costs -- only about 25,000 CAD per year! Also, its admission rate is not as low as University of British Columbia and University of Toronto, but it has a strong CS department, particularly in Reinforcement Learning Theory.
