Dislikes:

  • An athletic fee is required but limited athletic facilities that are available without additional fees on top of the mandatory one. null
  • Poor planning for unexpected emergencies or adverse weather events (students were injured because of this last year) .
  • limited parking available for $$$$ .
  • potentially degree specific, but it can be extremely difficult to get into courses required for my program (i.e. classes I need are full (~200 students) and the waitlist of 100 students is also full, so there no chance of getting into the course) .
  • food on campus is naturally very expensive and not super high quality .

Campus Life

So many clubs and course unions available, and many extracurriculars of various kinds, including, but not limited to, sporting events. Uvic is a research centred university, so there is a lot of support available in this regard. Wifi available all over campus, and many, many different study locations, both inside and outside.

Living with family to save money, uvic has on-campus accommodation, and renting in Victoria is AWFUL, average 1 bedroom for ~1500+ CAD$ per month.

Dislikes:

  • The only flaw I can see is with regard to the admission process. The number of intakes are extremely low- for instance, only 2 students were accepted in the last admission cycle- out of more than 150 applications. null

Campus Life

The campus life is truly amazing. The campus is spread over ridges, parks and protected gardens. One feels very close to the nature. The campus offers premium services of gymnasium, other sports at cheaper rates. Part of the yearly fee.

Not many students are able to get University accommodation and have to eventually look for it themselves, which is a huge task. The cost of living is higher than most Canadian cities.

No, i honestly don't know a lot about accommodation there since I am still in India and taking online instruction.

UVic is one of the most popular universities in Canada given it's great reputation and location. It's also one of the oldest universities in Canada. It offers three specializations under it's Bcom program i.e Service Management, entrepreneurship and International Management. Students can further advance into fields such as investment banking, human resources etc thus proving to be a very versatile program for students not sure what they wanna pick initially.

Close to home, friends and family and a great city and well respected school. Transferred to this school from another because it had a great reputation for teaching as well as community. Easy application process and average fees to apply. Went into this school after 1.5 years at a different university.

I live at home for school, with my parents helping me to make meals etc as long as I am in school taking 5 courses I do not need to pay rent. This allows me the chance to work while living in a quiet space to concentrate on school work.

Uvic is my hometown university which I have always planned to attend as a result of cheaper expenses while living at home. I also applied at the University of Alberta but then decided to stay home to keep living costs lower. While applying to the two combined schools I spent $200 on application fees.

It had the program I wanted, affordable, and close to home. I felt that it was a decent size and that it would be a good university to have on my CV. I find the campus to be very beautiful as well as the people very easy to collaborate with!

I chose UVIC for its sociology program. I want to continue on to study healthcare management and I found this program to combine statistical and management based studies within its sociology degree.

I am from the Yukon and this school had a nice close location. The department also had a very good reputation. I also liked the course selection as compared to other universities that I was considering.

The location, being on the Vancouver Island. The population is relatively small. The food options, many options for vegans/vegetarians on campus. The program, one of the only colleges to offer a program similar to pre-med in Canada.
