Course Curriculum

10

  • Its a mix. Both theory and practical de pending on the course.
  • Everything was positive no negatives for me.
  • Generally student count for each ranges from 20 to sometimes a higher of 50-60.
  • There were I remember somewhere around 50-60% of students were Indians that were enrolled in the course. But there are different numbers in each subject of the course.

Admission Experience

  • I applied only to this one and got admitted. For some students who face rejections might be because there is no relevant department/research going on matching to the aspirants (for admissions). It is important that one should first select a department then a professor , then start sending emails to the Professor to show them that you are interested in their work, have the relevant experience and make them believe how badly you want to be a part of their research group.
  • This is one of my favourite university as I completed my Internship from here back in 2014.
  • The admission process is simple through online application by paying fees and attaching all relevant documents. I didn’t gave any special exam for this. But sometimes they may ask for English exam results. However it can be waived off if you can somehow prove them that your primary, secondary and bachelors education has been done through English medium. This one can achieve by arranging some bonafide certificates from their respective institutions.
  • But again, the most important factor is acceptance of your profile by some university Professor. So its always good to convince someone even before applying to have some confidence on your application.
  • I applied to September 2019 intake, nothing influenced my decision. This was the best time considering my circumstances that time. However, I couldn’t go as I met with an accident and was on bedrest so I had to deferred my admission. But then covid happened so finally got a intake of September 2020.
  • Since my professor was already ready to take me so my application got approved in 1 month

Faculty

10

  • I am not aware of this ratio.
  • Different professors have different approaches some runs a slide in the classroom, some prefer to have white boards while some with mix its truly depends on the type of content they are teaching.
  • Not in my case but yes some profs do assist in getting jobs but this hardly matters, it purely depends on how good you are.
  • My supervisor is the best, he has been IEEE chair for Quantum computing and he was truly supportive in my entire journey.

Campus Life

10

  • Its a single location campus. Every course / program has their own building in the same campus only.

  • Facility Available – Library,Sports ground,Medical,Movie theatre,Multiple restaurants,Indoor and outdoor seating

  • There are multiple events organised each year, catering to different communities but yes the most popular are in the events based on India/indian theme.

Part Time Jobs

  • Almost everyone can get a chance to have TA once in their course. Research Assistant(RA) is only provided to those enrolled in thesis based programs like mine.
  • Pays are generally 18 CAD per hour at a minimum.
  • There are many support jobs like desk support jobs, jobs in libraries, IT help desk support, English help, specific projects like website development, lab assistants. Price ranges vary from 18 to 23 cad per hour.
  • Max hours is I guess 40 per week that time.
  • It is easy to get jobs there.
  • There are various part time jobs available in restaurants, malls, on campus, petrol pumps, everyone managed to get some job to pay for their expenses. Sometimes it is easy to find jobs but yes there are difficult times as well for eg there are more jobs in summer compared to winter. Some jobs require formal application process through company portals then interview then appointment letter while some networking like you just go and join

Placement

8

  • These are very subjective as some prefer higher education but i guess everyone is working some where now.
  • Salary ranges vary as per skill set. Can’t comment on that.
  • It’s through networking, online job portals, coops.
  • Some major companies- IBM , Microsoft, few startups. Everyone is working in their own respective field and if you have the right skill set, no stopping for you.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • I found it through some classifieds ads on usedvictoria.com.
  • My monthly rent was 800 ( twin sharing for 1 bhk, total rent was 1600). Facilities included kitchen, laundry, internet etc.
  • No challenges but yes you have to give references of the people who know you out there.
  • Network with people, find on campus accommodations that are truly cheap.
  • Mine was 10 min for a bus ride and 5 min for a car drive.

Exams

  • IELTS or any other recognised English exam might be a must requirement for some program but for mine i got it waived off as I showed them that I completed my entire education in English medium.

  • Some documents i could remember are as follows:

    1. Letter of Intent
    2. CV
    3. All mark sheets
    4. Photographs
    5. ID proof document generally passport
    6. Any other document as per applied program

Fees

  • For me it is mostly the tuition fees. Its charged per term. There could be other fees such as admin fees, registration fees etc.

  • Breakup of expenses-
Tuition fees - 2600CAD (per term)
Monthly Rent - 800 cad per month
    Groceries- 300 cad per month
    Utilities- 100 cad per month

  • Rest depends on individuals lifestyle as how one wants to spend the lifestyle out there and with their available resources

Scholarship

  • Yes there are scholarships, But I haven’t received any so no information about that.
  • But yes there are scholarships both at University and Department level. One can find the relevant details either on the University website or one can check with their department secretary.
  • Scholarships are based on merits, research grants are also there run by multiple companies.
