  • The university accommodations had a waitlist and were away from my campus, so I referred to a website affiliated with SFU residences and found a cheap and homely private room near my campus. I didn't face any challenges. I would recommend you do thorough research and reach out to 4-5 people before you land in Canada so you have a choice.

Courses are updated and relevant. Since it wasn't a thesis based program, there's a mix of theoretical and practical experience. The program has Big Data labs which help in getting experience in Python, data science, big data etc.

So far, I find the course syllabus to be quite aligned with the industry standards and requirements. I have the option to switch to an MA program wherein I'll be doing research, however, my current M.Ed program doesn't have a research component.

Fees

It's about 2000 CAD per semester but with the miscellaneous charges, it adds up to to 2500 CAD. But it's different for all programs. Mine isn't a unit based program.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University in the Faculty of Science, I didn't opt for this due to its reputation. SFU was known to be more prestigious. Each class was between 2-4 credits, usually if the class was twice a week it would be a 4 credit class. It didn't add value to my academics because I didn't enjoy the program I completed. It caused me a great deal of stress which impacted me very severely. There was way more students than faculty at SFU. The average class size was around 400 with one professor and 1-3 teaching assistants.

Fees

~$45,000 in total around $3,000 per semester plus $1000 in textbooks, I clicker etc. Payment was online. It wasn't affordable at all, coming straight out of high school I didn't have anywhere close to that money. I was able to get a loan.

It is a 46 units of credit score. This course allows me to dive deeply into the various options of public health. You will get the diverse option when you enrolled in the course. The faculty people aare very friendy and we can easily approach them for all the information which we needed. We have a cohort size of 40 and teaching method delivered was through the discussion and the lectures.

Fees

It is a 20-month program. I received the entry scholarship (2000 CAD) and the fee was 10500 CAD per year = 8500 per year, this is different from the other master's program in the SFU ( they are paying around 10000 CAD per term). Other than that, you have to pay for medical insurance. So fees wise, this is one of the best universities offering courses with minimum fees.

The course material is extremely relevant. During my first year, much of the material being taught is what had already been covered in my grade 11&12 ISC commerce and accounts classes. But, since then I have learned a lot and specialized in the fields relevant to me. Many professors try to bring speakers to the class or share their personal industry experiences with us. The various clubs at the university also host networking events that are open to all students and this gives us a chance to connect with industry professionals.

Fees

Tuition expenses for 4 courses per semester (including insurance, but excluding housing): $12,000.

It could definitely be a little more hands on. There were many times where I didn't learn much in some of the courses I took. If I wanted someone to read slides to me, I would have just stayed at home and looked at a powerpoint.

Fees

We paid for our school fees at the start of every term, including activity fees, gym fees, and our bus passes.
