- One on one professional support, passionate well-read faculty
Dislikes
- Commuter campus makes socialising hard, minimal elective options for law
Campus Life
- All basic facilities are available, and student discounts are available at partner locations all across the city.
Fees
- For 2 years, I paid around CAD 100,000
Likes
- Infrastructure was really good, sports related facilities were amazing. As long as you are a student, one can easily access swimming pool, badminton courts, squash, gymnasiums without any extra fee.
- Accommodation was easily available around the university
- University was easily accessible through city buses and transit
Dislikes
- The rent was pretty expensive and university authorities couldn't do anything about it
- There were very less career fairs and students didn't get any chance to interact with industry professionals
- There didn't seem to be any extra effort from university's side whether the students were able to secure a job after graduating. More than half of my batch didn't have a field job even after 1 year of graduation
Campus Life
-
The University has multiple campuses in Calgary
- 1. Main campus
- 2. Foothills campus
- 3. Spy Hill campus
- 4. Downtown campus.
- I only used to visit the main campus and didn't visit others. Main campus had around 4-5 libraries with one main central library. There were a lot of sports facilities, including gymnasiums, swimming pools, badminton and squash courts.
- During my time, it was the COVID pandemic, so we didn't have much festivals and all, but yes, there used to be career fairs, concerts, and stand-up comedy shows regularly before that.
- There was a Graduate Student Association (GSA), which had people who could support you for things like accommodation, transit, medical, tax filing, etc.
Fees
- I didn't take hostel so it was separate. For my fee, it was around $2500 for 3 units per course. We had to take at least 10 courses or a maximum of 12 courses. So if we multiply, the fee can range from 25,000 to 30,000 CAD for the whole course.
- The fee was increased a lot after our batch graduated.
- The fee was credit (unit)-based but was charged every semester.
- Monthly expenses
- Rent (including utilities): around 800-1000 CAD
- Groceries: 200 CAD
- Transportation: 150 CAD
- Phone bills: 50-70 CAD
- Misc.: 100 CAD
- Total expenses: 1300-1500 CAD, apart from the education fee.
- These numbers will change depending upon inflation in the last 2–3 years.

- It’s an interesting place to be. Faculty members for the most part are fairly supportive and the team of students running clubs and organizations are successful at getting people engaged.
Dislikes
- The commuter campus aspect of the campus. There is often little engagement between faculties because of this and a difficult transit experience for those living on the other side of the city.
Overview
I chose this university as the program I’m in is brand new, providing a fresh look at the built environment as a whole, unlike other universities. University is a unique experience. It’s much different than schooling before. You don’t know everyone in your school let alone even your program, making it much for self sufficient than previous schooling. It’s a challenging experience but feels much more rewarding than high school, with assignments posing actual difficulty and high level thinking requirements.
Campus Life
The campus is fairly lively, with events held by clubs and organizations on a fairly frequent basis. The university has a reputation for being a commuter campus which means that some days it can be quite quiet around the grounds. Besides that, everything else is top-notch with high-speed wifi, clean facilities, and a selection of food and beverage vendors.
Likes
- I like that my university is very student friendly and has a lot of resources available for international and domestic students such as writing support, literature review, financial support, food bank etc.
- Also, they have a very affordable tuition compared to other universities.
- They offer great international support services such as visa services.
Dislikes
- They do not have the best placement opportunities for students.
- They do not have a big infrastructure like many other bigger institutions in Canada.
- They do not pick a lot of international students for my program.
Overview
I chose this university because of following factors: - Affordable tuition fee plus a funding package of 10,000CAD per year (so I literally paid a few thousand dollars from pocket as tuition). - I also got several scholarships, research assistants and GANT opportunities that helped me fund my stay. - Calgary is an affordable city compared to other big cities in Canada. - My program has a social justice focus and it is known for its community focus - My supervisor and my research interest fit well. Overall, it's a positive experience for me with great tutelage, resources, student support services, international community etc.
Campus Life
There are a lot of campus events and activities. There is a huge library, fully equipped WIFI that works well in different parts of the campus, there is a gym, sports arena, multiple food courts, indoor walking facility during winters, bookstore, etc. There is also a SPA, a bar, a therapy center, religious center, neurodivergent space, women's center, and doctor's clinic.
Likes
- Honestly, this was the top most university in Canada which accepted me. Funding policy for research students is much higher as compared to expenses. I choose the thesis based program because i like the research and i want to go in it. Moreover, most of the thesis/research based programs are fully funded, so i had not to worry about my finances
- I like maximum things here, but the best thing is the accessibility of the facilities, I can come to my grad office at any time to work whether its midnight or weekend.
Dislikes
- I think, these year university is accepting much more students, which basically effect the teacher to student ratio. There is not any on-campus recruitment drive, so think two times if your program need huge investments
Overview
I have good experience from the perspective of courses, research, infrastructure and funding. University have flexibility about the courses; there is a good research environment and infrastructure.
Campus Life
There are lots of clubs and societies that organize different events; you will see the clubs organizing social events and societies organizing industrial visits and networking events. Few libraries have enough quiet space for studying. On the whole campus, your phone is always connected to the university's high-speed wifi, from which you can easily access research papers, books and other important articles. As for the sports, I don't know any common sport that you can not play here, but these all are indoors, since here most of the time over the year outside accumulated with snow.
Overview
I chose this university as the location is nice and also really big campus. Also the people in Canada are very helpful and supportive. Overall a nice atmosphere. Uofc is an amazing place with amazing instructors and community
Campus Life
I play basketball there are also many clubs and activities. There is a really nice Library.

- I choose this university, as I wanted to do my masters, I completed my bachelor's in University too , and my main goal is to do masters and it's only to be done from a University.
- I like the campus of my university, which is big and so accessible, there is a bus route inside and in front of every unit we get a stop for different locations in the city. It has world class facility as well as every building has a place to have a sit and complete our professional acadamic work or anything as there are big sofa as well as tables to sit , the structure of the building is as good as any corporate offices in the Downtown, calgary.
Dislikes
- The University is too big and maps doesn't work here, so proper guidance should be there for the students to show the building name as well as map of the building or as we can see in the mall , we can have a big display in the entrance of the building to show the map
Overview
The overall experience here is very good not excellent, as the fees for international student are very high , but for the students who are Canadian they have to pay less fees.
Campus Life
The campus life is so good here , as there are events that were organized again and again and they mail us regularly to get updated.

- Good scholarship, only university in the Canadian top 10 with tuition fees below $25k/yr for engineering, 95% graduate employment rate and 94% retention rate.
Overview
Overall experience is very good. The university has all bases covered residence, academics, sports, recreation, and research( also no 1 university in research) and Calgary is the 4th best city to live in, in the world according to the global liveability index.
Campus Life
Very good plenty to do in every way possible. Sports, recreation, movies anything you can think of. The university has its own football stadium and and Olympic ice skating ring also hosted the Olympics back in 90’s.

- The specialization is what attracted me to this University.
- The opportunities given to improve our skills. The student support here is great so far. Professors here have open-door policies, making it easier for us to seek guidance and clarification outside of class.
Dislikes
- The university has a strong co-operative education and internship program that allows students to gain practical work experience in their chosen fields but these are helpful mainly for those in research field. Despite all these as a student doing masters with course work, I don't have that much opportunities to gain some practical knowledge since these are limited for us.
Overview
I have had a great time since coming here. Don't expect that there will always be somebody to help you out because once you cross the border you are all on your own. Appreciate the little help you are getting. Please, sorry, thank you should not leave your lips.
Campus Life
There are many clubs and their events, many places to focus and read, etc. The libraries are having plethora of books to choose from including topics of spiritual and mental wellness. WiFi facility is available throughout the campus which is a great thing for the students.
