  • I was staying in an off-campus accommodation. I was staying in a 2-bedroom apartment in downtown. It was a shared accommodation where I was staying with 3 other guys.
  • I found them through Facebook and WhatsApp groups prior to landing in Canada. The monthly rent was around $1500 but increased to around $1800 next year.
  • The rent included water and electricity. The main challenge in shared accommodation is that its tough to trust someone you haven't met before.
  • My recommendation is to either stay in downtown or stay close to the university. My accommodation was a 15-20-minute transit ride away from the university. Most of the Indian students stayed near the university or in downtown.

I have no idea the average rental price on campus as though I don’t live there. However, I know that the average apartment in this city can range from 600-1000$ a month for rental on the low end.

I chose this university as the program I’m in is brand new, providing a fresh look at the built environment as a whole, unlike other universities. University is a unique experience. It’s much different than schooling before. You don’t know everyone in your school let alone even your program, making it much for self sufficient than previous schooling. It’s a challenging experience but feels much more rewarding than high school, with assignments posing actual difficulty and high level thinking requirements.

I live in a privately rented apartment 3 train stops away from the university and it costs me 1022 CAD per month. I do not share with anyone. Average cost needed per month is 1500 per month if the student is sharing a space.

I chose this university because of following factors: - Affordable tuition fee plus a funding package of 10,000CAD per year (so I literally paid a few thousand dollars from pocket as tuition). - I also got several scholarships, research assistants and GANT opportunities that helped me fund my stay. - Calgary is an affordable city compared to other big cities in Canada. - My program has a social justice focus and it is known for its community focus - My supervisor and my research interest fit well. Overall, it's a positive experience for me with great tutelage, resources, student support services, international community etc.

I am living in a shared house with 3 people(including me). We have rent of 650$/month and its main floor, and the house is at walking distance from the university. I would suggest the same because it has a private room. Here, on-campus housing is a bit expensive as compared to private. I also know some students live in apartments to save money, but in that case, you have to share the room.

I have good experience from the perspective of courses, research, infrastructure and funding. University have flexibility about the courses; there is a good research environment and infrastructure.

The University provides accommodations to the students who ask for but they are way costly may be 1000$ per month.

The overall experience here is very good not excellent, as the fees for international student are very high , but for the students who are Canadian they have to pay less fees.

On campus accommodation is limited and expensive but really nice to have as there is heavy snow fall almost all of fall and winter terms and temps as low as -35 C can be expected in the winter so it is really nice to be on campus as all the residence builds are connected via tunnels to all buildings on campus never have to go out in the cold.

Overall experience is very good. The university has all bases covered residence, academics, sports, recreation, and research( also no 1 university in research) and Calgary is the 4th best city to live in, in the world according to the global liveability index.

Your rent basically depends on the area you are choosing to stay. There are places to stay near the campus itself it will be a bit expensive. Probably more than 550 cad and other utility charges. I live about 1.5km away from campus but it's near to a Mall so it is 510cad+ 40% utility charges . So expect a total of around 600 and Groceries worth 150. There will be places with less rent though but I just chose this place because its 10 minutes walking distance to my work.

I have had a great time since coming here. Don't expect that there will always be somebody to help you out because once you cross the border you are all on your own. Appreciate the little help you are getting. Please, sorry, thank you should not leave your lips.

Rent 1000 dollars Groceries- 300

My experience has been pretty great at the university. I was fully funded so I didn't have much financial strain. Great infrastructure, and facilities all state of the art. Calgary in general is a vibrant city but has pretty bad weather. Winter can be pretty rough here.
