The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) is a moderately selective public research university in the US, with an acceptance rate of around 65% (as per Unofficial website). For Indian students, this is actually good news, but timing your application still matters. Missing the priority deadline can cost you scholarship consideration and delay your visa timeline.

As of now, Fall 2026 applications are open, and deadlines vary by program type. Based on consistent past trends, the timeline is expected to remain largely the same for Fall 2027 as well.

Undergraduate Deadlines:

  • Priority Deadline: December 1, 2025 (reviewed for AES scholarship)
  • Regular Deadline: May 1, 2026

Graduate Deadlines:

  • Doctoral programs: December 15 (complete application)
  • Master's programs (early deadline): January 15, 2026
  • Master's programs (regular deadline): May 1, 2026

Getting in requires a solid academic profile, not just a passing score. For undergraduate applicants, you need a strong high school academic record, proof of English proficiency (TOEFL 80+ / IELTS 6.5+ / PTE 67+), and official transcripts from 9th grade onwards. SAT/ACT scores are optional but help meet the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirement.

Graduate applicants need at least the equivalent of a US 4-year bachelor's degree, a GPA of 3.0/4.0 or above, and English proficiency scores (TOEFL 80+ / IELTS 6.5+). Indian students with a 3-year degree are considered on a holistic basis. GRE or GMAT is required only for select programs. Across all programs, you must submit individual semester mark sheets, degree certificates, and certified English translations of all documents.

FAQs

Ques. My BTech is a 3-year degree from India. Will UTD reject me outright for a master's?

Ans. No, UTD will not automatically reject you. Three-year Indian bachelor's degrees are considered for master's programs on a holistic review basis — meaning your GPA, GRE score, SOP, and work experience all play a role. However, a 4-year degree gives you a cleaner application. If you have a 3-year BTech, pairing it with strong GRE scores and relevant work experience significantly improves your chances.

Ques. How do Indian students submit transcripts and evaluations for UT Dallas admissions?

Ans. Indian students applying to UT Dallas must submit official academic transcripts issued by their institution. If the transcripts are not in English, certified English translations are required. For graduate admissions, some programs may also require a course-by-course credential evaluation for degrees earned outside the United States. Transcripts and supporting documents are usually submitted electronically through the application portal or approved services. The credential evaluation process may take two to four weeks and typically involves an additional cost, so applicants are advised to plan accordingly.

Ques. What is the I-20 and visa process like for Indian students after getting admitted to UT Dallas?

Ans. After admission, Indian students must complete the following steps for the I-20 and visa process:

  • Submit financial documents after receiving the admission offer. These documents are required to receive the I-20, which is mandatory for applying for a U.S. student visa.
  • The I-20 is issued by the International Student Services Office (ISSO) through the iComet portal. It is usually issued within two to four weeks after document submission.
  • Pay the mandatory SEVIS fee (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System). This fee is required for all F-1 visa applicants.
  • Complete the DS-160 form, which is the online non-immigrant visa application form.
  • Schedule an F-1 visa interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate in India.

Visa appointment wait times may vary, so applicants are advised to plan accordingly.

Scholarship

  • I did not receive any scholarship since I applied a bit late and my GRE score was not very high.
  • Few received scholarships for the 1st year (Dean's Excellence Scholarship). For this, a GRE score is required and the higher the score, the more chance of getting this merit scholarship. It may be around $7500 for 2 semesters. Good GPA in undergrad also might help. Everyone who needs a scholarship must submit a separate application with an essay outlining why you think you qualify for a scholarship.
  • Not sure about the average number of students who receive scholarships. Many smaller scholarships are also available, which can be applied for during a master's. The amount varies, starting from $1000.

  • I did not receive any scholarship.
  • A few students in my class got scholarships from the University and they were offered in-state tuition scholarships.
  • I'm not sure how many students, on average, receive scholarships each year.
  • Usually many students have received a $1,000 scholarship. Some of them also received an in-state scholarship for tuition.

  • UT Dallas offers the Eric Jonsson Scholarship for CS students, which you can apply for via the college portal. No I did not secure a scholarship.
  • It covers half the semester fees, provided you maintain a 3.5 GPA throughout.
  • It’s highly competitive, with only 20-25 recipients selected from a batch of over 450+ students, making it challenging to secure.

Overview

I chose UTD because of its excellent academic reputation, especially in Computer Science, and also due to the good career opportunities that comes with it as a result of partnerships with leading companies such as Amazon and Verizon. For my career aspirations, it was essential that I am located in USA which is known as hub of technology and innovations. Equally important to my decision was the fact that family members live around and they can provide both personal help as well as academic assistance. The experience has been all encompassing - academics apart; I have taken part in such activities like ACM and playing for their cricket team. A lively student life is what the campus offers; one striking thing about it is that there exists a balance between academic pursuits and social activities.

Overview

I chose UTD because the Naveen Jindal School of Management is one of the finest in the country and the courses offered at UTD are really relevant and flexible and that is something that aligned with what I wanted to do. I also chose UTD because of the state of Texas, since there are a lot of Indians as well and cities like Austin and Dallas have plenty of opportunities almost equivalent to the west coast.

Overview

I submitted 1 SOP, resume 3 LORs for my application. I wrote about my interest in the MSBA program and I linked it to how my professional experience of 1.5 years is relevant to this degree. I also mentioned relevant projects and extracurricular experience. LORs were given by my professors. My resume consisted information about my experience, educations, skills and projects. I was interested in UTD because of the ability to choose courses from various schools. Also, the location of the college is great and gives a homely feeling. I heard good reviews of this particular program and decided to go with it. I chose this program because I had experience with data in my workplace. I liked my work and wanted to explore it. It is a good university with great professors and academic programs. The infrastructure and extracurricular activities are good too. But I would say that it is very expensive without scholarship.
