What Students Say
Likes
- Academics, social network, career opportunities.
- My professors were amazing and the facilities were great.
- Many influential people are in the universities, and the networking potential is huge.
Dislikes
- It is a commuter college. Not many students live on campus. You have to go out of your way to network, but when you do, you will get a ton of opportunities.
- The Texas weather - depends on whether you like heat or not! The summers are very hot, but the spring, fall and winter are pleasant.
Required Exams for Admission
I chose this college because it had a good Biotechnology program, good pricing, and this degree is competitive in the job market. Overall, It was a great, enlightening experience where I learned to be independent, make friends, connect with professors and companies, and also where I worked hard and accomplished a lot. Now I have great job offers with good pay and a firm start to my professional life.
Course Curriculum
The course is up to date and cutting edge. I got an internship and research experience in Mayo Clinic. The lab opportunities are high in number and you can work as an assistant to a professor by emailing them and asking if there are any open seats.
Faculty
Faculty to student ratio: 1:30. The faculty are kind, friendly, and very approachable. They were involved in many research projects in which students took part. Dr. Duane Winkler, Dr. Mehmet Candas, Dr. Li Liu, Dr. Uma Srikanth, Dr. Darshan Sapkota, Dr. Jing Pan, Dr. Nicole de Nisco, and Dr. Nick Dillon were my teachers and I learned so much from them.
Campus Life
There are hundreds of clubs and events, fast WiFi, and an activity center and library free to use for students. I worked in several labs with neat, well-maintained, and new equipment and I got a part-time job as well.
Placement
Students branch out in a wide variety of fields. Average salary may be USD 60,000 per annum for new professionals. We applied for jobs independently with no campus placements. Professors write letters of recommendation upon request.
Accommodation
Rent in a 1 bedroom, 1 bath apartment is about USD 1400 per month with no roommates. With roommates, it costs much less, about USD 500-700, which many students do. Budgeting is required as the Dallas Metro area can be somewhat expensive (but not as much as the Bay Area or East Coast).
Exams
Three letters of recommendation and a statement of purpose. No GRE required for 2022. My TOEFL score: 108. Vellore Institute of Technology: GPA 8.01 IGCSE - 4 C, 1 A (12th) 1 A, 4 B (10th) SOP, 3 LORs, and CV required. I mentioned my research experiences and ability to work in these documents. Interview Round: No interviews. I suggest tying research projects to your ability to problem-solve in SOPs and keeping them brief and to the point. Mention your achievements in internships, your critical thinking skills, and your ability to persevere against challenges.
Fees
USD 50,000 in total (approximately)
