- Diverse Student Community: University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) has large international population, especially at Master's 'level. This makes transition to new country easier for new students and to feel at home.
- Career Services: UTD has a top notch career center which helps everyone in job search and resources needed for it. UTD's job fairs and alumni network are strong and active in helping students secure their prospective career goals. I got lot of help from career center.
- Scholarship and Assistantship Opportunities: There are merit scholarships, research assistantships, teaching assistantships which can ease burden on tuition cost.
Dislikes
- Food and Dining: Somedays the food in dining hall is not that good. But not terrible. It is decent enough. I would like to see it improve a bit.
- Weak Sports Culture: I felt the sports culture needs to improve and create more events and be accessible to many. Minimal sports culture leads to fewer ways to bond.
- Quality of Professors and Course Materials: While most are good, I felt some are outdated and disengaged. I see this as a field for improvement to compete with world class institutions.
Campus Life
- UTD is present only at Richardson, TX. It is one of the reputed universities under the University of Texas chain.
- UTD has all the modern facilities like 3 floor library, collaborative study spaces, Comet Cupboard for free groceries, Comet Closet for free professional attire, Cricket Ground, Base ball field, Many Tennis courts, Many Basket ball Courts, Football fields, Volley ball courts, 2 Big dining halls, more than 20+ food courts and major food chain outlets, Health center with all modern equipment, Tech store, Marketplace, Gaming wall, Swimming pools, Gyms, Indoor courts, Pool tables, Table tennis rooms, Indoor games etc
- Since the Indian population is more UTD hosts all major Indian festivals and events. Interdepartment extracurricular competitions occur. For each year there is a freshers party and bash. Lots of clubs for both academic and extracurricular activities. UTD also has a lot of charity clubs that help international students in all ways possible.
- Lot of sport events occur, ranging from individual sports to team sports. Fun games and activities occur every week, organised by different departments. Big Cultural event occur every year where famous personalities grace the occasion. There is a movie theatre where screening happens regularly. More than 40 student organisations are present, ranging from social to academic departments.
Accommodation
- I joined few WhatsApp groups to find accommodation near campus
- Rent was approx. $600 since I opted for a gated community, which is much safer than other places. The kitchen will be equipped with a stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher, etc. The house will be air-conditioned and will have laundry machines as well. Most have garages and spaces to park your vehicle. Any repairs will be done by the leasing office staff of the particular community.
- Always finding accommodation in a new country is challenging. Finding roommates who match your character is the most difficult part. If you are on a budget, then finding a decent place with good reviews is time-consuming. overall if looked at the right places, then you will find a decent place.
- My recommendation for future students is to find places that are on the route of the college shuttle or public bus. so travel is not an issue. Find accommodation where grocery stores and necessary amenities are near so you can access them without a vehicle. I would suggest go for gated communities since strangers can enter the community easily and much safer.
- My accommodation was 10 mins away from campus. I usually took the UTD shuttle to travel to campus, which took 15-18 mins to reach campus by going around to pick up students. Most Indians stay in places near campus like estates of Frankford, Marquis at waterview, Ashwood, Estates of Richardson, Pearl at Frankford, MAA housing, etc., which are on the route of the UTD shuttle.

Dislikes
- Campus life can be boring. Limited on campus jobs.
Campus Life
- Everything was great. One campus multiple building for specific department/field of study.
- Library, sports, extra curricular activities all available
Accommodation
- Found accommodation through online social media, $400-500 in a shared space.
Likes
- Helpful teachers who were friendly and always ready to guide us
- Fun clubs and events with lots of student groups to join
- Good classrooms and labs with clean, modern facilities
Dislikes
- It's difficult to find parking spaces especially during the College hours
- The gyms are usually over crowded and always difficult to find a machine to work out
- The restaurant outlets are a little bit expensive and are not affordable to everyone
Campus Life
-
It's a single campus.
- All facilities are available like a library, sports facilities, and medical services.
- Welcome Week and Involvement Fair with food, live music, and over 200 clubs recruiting
- International Week featuring daily cultural performances and food fair
- Earth Day Festival with eco friendly vendors and DIY workshops
- Comet Con, the annual student run anime, gaming, and cosplay convention
- Rubber Duck Race, a springtime fundraiser where thousands of rubber ducks “race” down the creek
- Homecoming Week with tailgates, spirit competitions, and alumni events
- UTD offers plenty of ways to get involved outside class. You can join Division III sports teams, intramural leagues, or use the Recreation Center to stay active. Cultural festivals—like International Week and the Rubber Duck Race—bring everyone together for fun and food. With over 300 student orgs (tech clubs, service groups, Greek life, arts), you can explore any interest and build leadership skills. There are also music ensembles, theatre productions, and student media (newspaper, radio). Whether you love sports, culture, or service, you’ll find your community here.
Accommodation
- I took it off campus. I found the accommodation through a whatsapp and telegram groups.
- Monthly rent was $1848 plus utilities around $50. Refrigerator, Washer, Dryer, Wi-Fi are available.
- Trying to find better accommodation with a moderate price which is close to the University. Should be student friendly and a clean environment.
- It was really competitive to find one for a better price. My advice would be to try to book the apartment at an early stage for a lower price.
- It takes around 10 minutes from my place to University. Many Indian students have stayed in EOF.

Likes
- Top Notch CS Program (Especially Intelligent Systems)
- Rich Indian Community
- Modern Campus ( clean, well-maintained, and continually improving with new infrastructure)
Dislikes
- Inconsistent Professors
- Massive Batch Sizes (around 500+ students in one intake for CS)
- Tuition fees in pretty high and less on campus opportunities
Campus Life
- The campus life at UTD was great, with a lot of events, festivals, clubs, and activities to select from. There were a lot of cultural festivals and events on campus throughout the year, which were a fantastic way to learn about different cultures and traditions. The university also had a lot of clubs and organizations, from academic and professional clubs to recreational and sports clubs.
- I was part of the UTD Computer Science Club. It was a great way to get to know other students who shared the same interests as me. The club hosted numerous activities and events, including hackathons, coding competitions, and tech talks. We also had a lot of fun at game nights, movie nights, and other social events.
Accommodation
- I chose to stay off-campus as it was affordable and suitable. There are several places where one can reside off-campus in the Richardson area, including apartments and shared homes. I lived in an apartment with some of my classmates, and this saved us money in addition to having friends around.
- The apartment facility provided us with everything that we needed, such as a gym, pool, and parking. My rent was around $800/month, which included utilities like Wi-Fi, electricity, and water. Shared accommodations helped reduce costs further.

Likes
- What I like about UTD is the strong sense of community, with diverse student organizations like ACM and MSA, and the excellent facilities, including a modern library and sports center.
- The university's strong industry connections with companies like Amazon and Verizon offer valuable career opportunities, and the supportive faculty are approachable and help students with both academics and internships.
Dislikes
- However, parking can be a challenge due to limited spaces, and some classes are quite large, which can make personalized interaction with professors more difficult.
Campus Life
Campus life is good. I am part of a few organizations such as ACM and MSA. I also play cricket for the university team, which has been an incredible way to build teamwork and leadership skills. Balancing academics with sports and extracurriculars enhances my overall college experience, helping me grow both professionally and personally while making lifelong connections.
Accommodation
I’m fortunate to stay with my aunt, which helps save on accommodation costs. Typically, students at UTD have several housing options. On-campus dorms and apartments are popular, with rooms available in shared or private setups. Shared rooms are more affordable, costing around $800-$1,200 per month depending on the proximity to campus and amenities.
Likes
- I like the flexibility that UTD offers with their courses and professors. The amount of courses UTD has to offer for programs like Information Technology Management and Business Analysis are really good and are pretty relevant as well. They cover a wide spectrum of domains which allows you to choose which domain you want to enter.
Dislikes
- Now, what I dislike is having a wide range of course collections also puts you in a bit of confusion since you begin to think that every domain might be good for you.
Campus Life
Other than academics, I believe there is a lot going on in terms of student led clubs, sports, events, activities etc. You just have to look out for all these events and decide which one you want to go to since there are events going on probably everyday. The student organization network is huge here and there are lot of opportunities that revolve around them as well. These organizations hold multiple events and talk shows with industry leaders. One of the clubs that I would like to recommend is Envision. It is a data visualization student organization at the Naveen Jindal School of Management and its aim is to help students with data and how to sell that data. For freshers who are enthusiastic about joining any student organization, Envision should definitely be one of the top choices. I myself benefitted from this as they held bootcamps and hackathons and I was able to understand and apply these skills in projects. Therefore I highly recommend joining this student organization.
Accommodation
The accommodation facilities are also pretty good here. There are a lot of options to choose from here as well, however, that entirely depends on individual budgets and living preferences. The average rent ranges from around 500$- 700$ per month, and utilities are separate.
Likes
- Academics, social network, career opportunities.
- My professors were amazing and the facilities were great.
- Many influential people are in the universities, and the networking potential is huge.
Dislikes
- It is a commuter college. Not many students live on campus. You have to go out of your way to network, but when you do, you will get a ton of opportunities.
- The Texas weather - depends on whether you like heat or not! The summers are very hot, but the spring, fall and winter are pleasant.
Campus Life
There are hundreds of clubs and events, fast WiFi, and an activity center and library free to use for students. I worked in several labs with neat, well-maintained, and new equipment and I got a part-time job as well.
Accommodation
Rent in a 1 bedroom, 1 bath apartment is about USD 1400 per month with no roommates. With roommates, it costs much less, about USD 500-700, which many students do. Budgeting is required as the Dallas Metro area can be somewhat expensive (but not as much as the Bay Area or East Coast).
Campus Life
College life was fun. Lots of Indian students around so it never felt like I came to the USA for master’s, it felt more like Amity university.
Accommodation
I lived outside of campus since that was cheaper.
Campus Life
I feel that the campus life is really good. I am an active person so I get involved in different on-campus activities. I especially make use of the pool tables almost daily. The campus infrastructure is nice and clean and we would want to explore more of it. There is always some activity or the other going on with free food. It is a great thing for international students especially.
Accommodation
There are many communities around UTD where students stay. They are convenient because there is free bus service. The communities are well-maintained and the average rent per person will be around $600 if 4 people live in a 2B2B apartment. It contains all facilities like washer, dryer, oven, induction and microwave. Other utilities including water, sewage, electricity, wifi will cost an additional 150-200$.
Campus Life
Campus life is quite diverse. Many country based clubs are available as well as clubs related to proper field in tech are also available. E.g. Data Science club, ACM, AIS Artificial Intelligence Society, SWE society of women engineers etc.
Accommodation
I live off campus Around 500$ for rent without utilities UTD provides free Dart buses as well.
