Likes
- Diverse Student Community: University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) has large international population, especially at Master's 'level. This makes transition to new country easier for new students and to feel at home.
- Career Services: UTD has a top notch career center which helps everyone in job search and resources needed for it. UTD's job fairs and alumni network are strong and active in helping students secure their prospective career goals. I got lot of help from career center.
- Scholarship and Assistantship Opportunities: There are merit scholarships, research assistantships, teaching assistantships which can ease burden on tuition cost.
Dislikes
- Food and Dining: Somedays the food in dining hall is not that good. But not terrible. It is decent enough. I would like to see it improve a bit.
- Weak Sports Culture: I felt the sports culture needs to improve and create more events and be accessible to many. Minimal sports culture leads to fewer ways to bond.
- Quality of Professors and Course Materials: While most are good, I felt some are outdated and disengaged. I see this as a field for improvement to compete with world class institutions.
Course Curriculum

- The course curriculum was flexible and different slots across days were available to choose the subject. I would not say it was very difficult but a few courses were challenging. Few very theoretical but most were a mix of both theoretical and practical.
- The positive aspect is the course is flexible and I was able to design it according to my career aspirations. Only 3 subjects were mandatory and the other 9 were electives. I could choose those 9 from almost 36 subjects across different departments. Negative aspect is that few courses are good only when taken under a few top-rated professors. so those classes fill up as soon as they are open and not everyone can take it. so without options, students must take it under other professors who might not be at the same level as well-reputed ones.
- The classes can be chosen by the student according to their preference. Typically each class is around 3 hrs and a student can choose 3-4 classes per week spread across the week. The timings range from morning at 9 am to night at 10pm. so the student can take multiple classes on the same day and attend them from morning till night or choose only 1 class per day and attend it during a favoured time slot. typically I had 2 days of classes each week (max of 2 classes per day).
- Average number of students in my class was 35 - 40. some classes had 60 students as well. some had below 30.
- 80-85% of students enrolled in my course were Indians.
Fees
- Total Fee for me was approx. $67000.
- Breakdown:
- Tuition was around $56000.
- Every semester student insurance was about around $1350 (total 5400 approx.).
- Extra fee for management school was $4000 in total across 4 semesters.
- International service fee was $150 per semester ($600 for 4 semesters).
- Orientation fee was $50
- The fee is charged every semester. The total amount per semester depends on credits taken for that semester. So the amount is calculated according to credit taken.
- For me, It would cost $600 approx. per month. Rent - $470, Utilities - $50, other regular expenses - $60 to $70

- Helpful teachers who were friendly and always ready to guide us
- Fun clubs and events with lots of student groups to join
- Good classrooms and labs with clean, modern facilities
Dislikes
- It's difficult to find parking spaces especially during the College hours
- The gyms are usually over crowded and always difficult to find a machine to work out
- The restaurant outlets are a little bit expensive and are not affordable to everyone

- Each course has its own way of learning. Each Professor follows their way of teaching. Some courses require theoretical way while some require a hands-on practical way. Both are available in UTD. The difficulty level is medium.
- Positive:
- You get straight into hands-on work (labs, real cases) so you build job ready skills.
- Instructors know their stuff—and industry guests keep things up to date.
- Classmates come from all kinds of backgrounds, so you learn different viewpoints.
- Everything you learn lines up with the kinds of jobs you’ll want (data analyst, modeller, etc.).
- Evening and hybrid options make it easier if you’re working or have other commitments.
- Negative:
- Group projects can be hard to coordinate when everyone’s schedules are different.
- Popular electives fill up fast, and some required classes only run once a year.
- Exams and project deadlines sometimes overlap, causing crunch periods.
- Office hours are limited and may conflict with your other commitments.
- Setting up specialised software environments for labs can be tricky without hands-on help.
- Usual timings depend on your course selection and the school you are studying at. Since I am a JSOM student, usual timings are 10 - 12:45am, 1 - 3:45pm, 4 - 6:45pm, and 7 - 9:45pm.
- There will be 2 or 3 classes per day. The average number of students in my class is 40. Nearly 400 Indian students are enrolled in my course.

The curriculum has fundamental topics such as algorithms, data structures, AI and machine learning while advanced electives are also provided on cloud computing, cybersecurity and software engineering. The program emphasizes practical experience via projects, hackathons and coding challenges enabling students to gain exposure to real-world problems. I’m interested in machine learning and cloud computing.

- I like the flexibility that UTD offers with their courses and professors. The amount of courses UTD has to offer for programs like Information Technology Management and Business Analysis are really good and are pretty relevant as well. They cover a wide spectrum of domains which allows you to choose which domain you want to enter.
Dislikes
- Now, what I dislike is having a wide range of course collections also puts you in a bit of confusion since you begin to think that every domain might be good for you.

The UTD Information Technology and Management course is very well designed and covers a huge spectrum of domains and technologies. The curriculum is relevant and very flexible which allows the students to choose what suits them best out of a wide range of options. There are multiple tracks that can be explored. If you have decided what domain you want to go into or still deciding, I believe UTD has a lot of options to choose from.

- Academics, social network, career opportunities.
- My professors were amazing and the facilities were great.
- Many influential people are in the universities, and the networking potential is huge.
Dislikes
- It is a commuter college. Not many students live on campus. You have to go out of your way to network, but when you do, you will get a ton of opportunities.
- The Texas weather - depends on whether you like heat or not! The summers are very hot, but the spring, fall and winter are pleasant.
