- Course curriculum
- World class faculty, education from USA gives you immense opportunity to learn from the top notch professors (some of them are even the ones we read books of)
- If you are interested in research, the lab and university infrastructure provides you all.
Dislikes
- Some of the on campus housing at stony brook is not exactly near the campus it almost 15 mins drive.
- Cant get on campus jobs easily
- Most of the TA/RA positions are unpaid
Campus Life
- Different events will keep happening around the campus; you will have different apps by which you can track those events and go and enjoy them.
- Indian events like diwali, garba will also happen so get some indian outfits as well.
- Every facility, like the world-class library and sports medical services, you would get everything on campus and some other person is there to help you out all the time.
Fees
- Fees are charged per semester but it is based on how many credits you take, so at SBU per credit, it costs around $1k, and for a master's in computer engineering, you need to complete at least 30 credits so straight total fees would cost around $30k. But keep $4k-$5k for extra charges that universities take per semester, also for the student health insurance.
- I live on campus so it costs me $900 per month, but if you choose to live off campus it would cost less but the commute is not good so it is highly recommended to live on campus at SBU. So $900 rent + 100-150$ basic grocery expenses (being said that you dont live in luxury, you will have to cook urself and be in a budget; otherwise, this could increase easily)
- SBU buses are free so not much cost in commuting if you live on campus.

Likes

Dislikes
- Limited campus life and social scene
- Weather conditions are unpredictable
- The public transportation limitations
Campus Life
- My college has three main campuses: SBU main campus, Southampton campus and Manhattan campus.
- All facilities are available, including the gym, football, basketball, badminton, swimming, squash, volleyball, and pickleball. Extracurriculars in terms of contributing to career growth are widely available on campus through a lot of events.
Likes
- Low tution fee. Excellent alumni network and famous for systems courses in computer science. Newyork also being one of the factor.
- On campus Accomdation and clubs activities that keep you refreshed and not bored. Course work and curriculum. Good strength of alumni network. Infrastructure and facilities like bus for transportation and other facilities.
Dislikes
- Limited number of courses than other universities. And heavy competition for the courses to choose from. Slightly expensive room rent for accommodation.
Overview
Nice campus with all facilities and good course work laod. Eventful with students living in the same place. Accomodation is slightly expensive but a lot helpful.
Campus Life
Lot of extracurricular activities dur to the good number of undergraduates and facilities are top notch. We have goos number of students in on campus Accomdation so it all fun and lively with more participation in clubs.
Likes
- The mixed diversity, large campus, more clubs for extracurricular, and touch of home
- Especially the vibe and balance of life.Made more friends, did better academically because of the resources. I also like being more involved with extracurricular
Dislikes
- I think I just didnt like the competitiveness of it especially for international students especially with part time job on campus. Otherwise I dont have any complaints.
Overview
I really had a good time. It was really worth it and I dont regret transferring from university of vermont to stony brook university. Made more friends, did better academically because of the resources. Overall no complaints.
Campus Life
Every amenities was provided, safety as best, and also lot of clubs to participate in. Overall good balance in academics and personal life.
Likes
- The main factor would be the tuition over here is really less taking into account the reputation and quality of the academics. It suits well for my profile.
- I liked the diverse group of people I was able to meet over here, academics if you pick and choose your courses you can learn a lot, so many resources to study (Libraries and lounges)
Dislikes
- As they have given too many admissions getting to choose one like has been really difficult, finding part time is really difficult. I don't know why they hesitate to give offer letter."
Overview
I would say it's good for the most part of it but that comes from a person who doesn't have any homesick and loves being here. One thing that's worrying is being without any job offer that will always be in the back of the head and haunts me. Leaving that everything else is good. There are some limitations but most part I got so many things to do I don't even get the time to try new stuff.
Campus Life
Part time is really difficult to find over here, for extracurricular there will be events going on like any other university but depends on the interest of individual. As a badminton fan they don't have a separate court for badminton and also I have to pay $30 per month to access the gym which is kind of sad. I really like the classes and Libraries, one of the library is open 24 hours and also study lounges are so many over here and they are really good. Wifi is really good never had a problem with it for more than 10 min. This university is best for people who want to research as they have a lot of funding for research projects (I am not 100% sure of this)
Likes
- I chose this college because of its reputation and high ROI. When moving to abroad, cost plays an essential role and it can sometimes be burdensome. Stony Brook University has one of the lowest tuition fees in United States and delivers exceptional quality of education. I particularly chose this program because I am interested in the fields of Machine Learning, Data Science and Software Development. Professors are experienced in their fields and publish in top-tier conferences and journals like CVPR and ICCV. These factors were more than enough for me to pursue my masters degree here.
- First of all, it is a beautiful, lush green campus far away from bustling cities. It provides you with a perfect setting to learn your interests and grow.
- Secondly, assignments here are relatable and will demand a lot of hard work. But if done fairly and without the use of AI, then I guarantee you that it will be all worth it.
Dislikes
- The only thing I dislike about my university is their assumptions regarding us knowing many things. Some professors tend to skip some foundational things by saying that they assume that we have already learnt this stuff in our bachelor's and hence we know it. But this is not true. All the students tend to come from diverse colleges with a diverse curriculum.
- So, assuming that we know some topics beforehand and skipping them proves to be a hindrance while studying some advanced topics in the course. So here, self-studying plays a pivotal role because students must self-study many essential topics before jumping to the advanced things taught in the class. Apart from this, there is severe competition for everything here, ranging from course selections to on-campus jobs and housing selection. This can be stressful at times. So, apart from these two things, there is nothing that I dislike about my university.
Overview
My university experience has been incredibly rewarding so far. I've been exposed to new and exciting knowledge, thanks to supportive professors and a well-rounded curriculum, and I've had the chance to meet a diverse group of people, which has expanded my horizons and enhanced my personal growth.
Campus Life
Throughout the year, the university offers a wide range of activities and events. The research facilities are cutting-edge, and the libraries have extensive resources. High-speed Wi-Fi connectivity is readily available, and the institution provides excellent sports facilities. Additionally, numerous student clubs cater to a variety of interests, ensuring there is something for everyone within the university community.
Overview
Huge campus, the fact that it's a state university, lower tuition fees, the flexibility of selection of subjects for graduating, project/thesis option, the fact that everybody completes their masters in 1.5 years instead of 2 years, good placements with amazon being the mass recruiter, good quality research, good reputation, lower living expenses, lower rent for on-campus housing, many facilities, free university transportation, etc.
Fees
It depends on the credits. For masters 31 credits are compulsory and every credit costs around $964 apart from the other fees like health insurance, transportation, etc. Every semester all credits taken above 12 aren't charged. Approximately the tuition fee is around $40000 for two years.
Overview
Stony Brook was among the top 40 schools for computer science and one of the most economical schools as well. They are really famous for their systems-related courses as well as cutting-edge technologies like Data Science, Computer Vision and Machine Learning.
Fees
$42951 was the i20 amount. Each credit costs approximately $1000 and my department needed 31 credits to graduate.
Overview
Good ranking for Computer Vision and Excellent campus facilities. Low cost and therefore high return on investments. Great placement opportunities for jobs and internships.
Fees
3-semester costs: $60,000 4-semester costs: $69,000
