The university is known for high-paying software engineering jobs in the USA. The University has an extensive alumni network who work at top tech firms and therefore a lot of seniors are available to provide guidance on how to crack interviews.
Internship
I interned at Facebook in the summer of 2020. The overall process involves two interviews: the first is a phone screen round with two algorithmic questions that have to be solved in 45 minutes, and the second round is exactly like the first one with the difference that the phone call is replaced by a video call.
Events
Stony Brook has a good sports team and watching the matches is a good experience. The campus has an excellent recreational center.
Fees
3-semester costs: $60,000 4-semester costs: $69,000
Scholarship
No, I didn't receive any scholarship.
Faculty
A lot of good researchers in the fields of CV and NLP. Faculty are very approachable and the university offers plenty of opportunities to conduct research in the labs.
Hostel
My university offers great on-campus housing. It is safe and secure along with a cleaning service. During COVID times when all universities were shutting down their campuses, Stony Brook went above and beyond by providing all international students with low-density quarantine housing. The University went so far as to provide free food to all the students. I think this shows how student-friendly the university policies are.
