What Students Say?
Likes
- The main factor would be the tuition over here is really less taking into account the reputation and quality of the academics. It suits well for my profile.
- I liked the diverse group of people I was able to meet over here, academics if you pick and choose your courses you can learn a lot, so many resources to study (Libraries and lounges)
Dislikes
- As they have given too many admissions getting to choose one like has been really difficult, finding part time is really difficult. I don't know why they hesitate to give offer letter."
I would say it's good for the most part of it but that comes from a person who doesn't have any homesick and loves being here. One thing that's worrying is being without any job offer that will always be in the back of the head and haunts me. Leaving that everything else is good. There are some limitations but most part I got so many things to do I don't even get the time to try new stuff.
Course Curriculum
I like the course curriculum, It has the conventional System courses which covers the core of computer science and also I had taken a course which dealt with ChatGPT and how I can use it make a project and involving prompt engineering. I guess this will answer the relevancy of course work. Obviously there are professors who teaches the same stuff every year but wherever you go you will some.
Exams
My scores: GRE 146 Verbal 170 Quant 3 Writing; IELTS 7; the least IELTS i know is 6.5 and GRE is not mandatory. I had to submit LORs(3), SOP, Something like having a project or internship experience will be a huge plus is I would feel because the people who got scholarships (ps they only roll out very few over here by giving them the opportunity of paid TA) they are not someone who had a lot of industry experience on the contrary they are freshers with good Toefl105) GRE(324) and lot of extra curricular activities
Placement
Placements should be Off campus depends on the students, It really depends on the job market, previously 3 to 4 years back students over here usually had 2 to 3 intern opportunities but now it's really bad because of obvious reasons but even then if the student actively applies and has a good profile he will get an intern or job
Fees
For 31 credits it will be around $35000 Living expense may be around $900 to $1300 per month
Faculty
We have huge class strengths these days like there are classes with more than 200 students in one of the lecture I took but there are also courses with only 10 to 20 students. Most of them are approachable but as I said before depends on the professor because they do have a lot to cover and may not get the time to actively interact with the students because of various reasons. There might be so many reasons behind it but one I should feel should be sorted.
Campus Life
Part time is really difficult to find over here, for extracurricular there will be events going on like any other university but depends on the interest of individual. As a badminton fan they don't have a separate court for badminton and also I have to pay $30 per month to access the gym which is kind of sad. I really like the classes and Libraries, one of the library is open 24 hours and also study lounges are so many over here and they are really good. Wifi is really good never had a problem with it for more than 10 min. This university is best for people who want to research as they have a lot of funding for research projects (I am not 100% sure of this)
Hostel
I live on campus in a 3BHK apartment which is like 15 min walk to the main campus and the campus shuttles will run most of the working time. $700 rent includes all utilities even laundry, also they clean the house once per week maybe $100 for groceries (per month)
