Hofstra University is a private university located in Hempstead, Long Island, New York, roughly 25 miles from Manhattan. Hofstra’s setting is suburban and campus-based, but you’re still within practical reach of NYC via public transport, which matters if you’re comparing it to fully urban universities in Manhattan. Academically, Hofstra is known for career-oriented programs across business, health, and STEM, with strong options for students planning a US job search after graduation.
For Fall 2026, Hofstra publishes a dedicated international “Estimated Costs” sheet used for I-20 financial documentation. The total estimated yearly cost is
- $86,267 (₹82.79 lakhs) for Undergraduate (Bachelor’s),
- $61,619 (₹59.13 lakhs) for Zarb School of Business graduate programs, and
- $60,863 (₹58.41 lakhs) for all other graduate programs.
For Indian families, this is important because the US visa process expects you to show funds at (or above) the I-20 requirement amount. Hofstra also clearly breaks down tuition, fees, housing, meals, insurance, and other expenses, which makes budgeting more transparent than universities that only provide broad ranges.
On the tuition side, Hofstra lists undergraduate full-time tuition per term (12–17 credits) at $29,422.50 (₹28.23 lakhs). Graduate tuition is typically billed per credit hour: $1,800/credit (₹1.72 lakhs) for Zarb School of Business, and $1,760/credit (₹1.68 lakhs) for most other graduate programs (excluding special programs). If you’re applying for a business master’s (like MBA or MS Business Analytics), you should treat Zarb’s rate as your baseline. If you’re applying to programs like MPH, Health Informatics, M.Ed, or MA I/O Psychology, the non-Zarb rate usually applies unless your program states otherwise.
(Exchange rate: $1 = ₹95.97 as of May 22, 2026)
Student-reported (Indian applicant pattern): Hofstra is often described as having a “classic US campus” feel with a strong commuter component, and students commonly highlight proximity to NYC as the real differentiator for internships and exposure.

Hofstra University Highlights 2026
Before you compare Hofstra with other New York–area private universities, these are the quick facts Indian applicants typically screen for—location advantage, official cost figures for visa, and tuition billing format.
| Item | Details (2026) |

Hofstra University Rankings 2026
Hofstra is most commonly tracked by Indian applicants through U.S. News in the US “National Universities” category. Below is a simple trend view based on publicly reported U.S. News rankings of Hofstra University.
| Ranked For | 2026 Rank |
|---|---|
| U.S. News (National Universities) | #183 |
| U.S. News (Best Value Schools) | #99 |
| U.S. News (Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs) | #38 |
What this means for Indian applicants: if your priority is a highly ranked “headline” university, Hofstra may not compete with top New York brands—but it can still make sense if your focus is NYC access + practical programs + scholarship offset.
Hofstra University Courses and Fees Fall 2026
Hofstra’s published costs are best read in two layers:
- Bursar billing rates (what tuition is charged as), and
- International estimated annual totals (used for I-20 financial documentation and realistic yearly budgeting).
Hofstra University UG Courses and Fees for Fall 2026
The UG programs below match what Indian students typically shortlist when they want a STEM/technical base (engineering/math/physics) or a job-aligned computing pathway. Fees shown reference the official Fall 2026 international estimated cost framework.
| UG Program | Tuition Basis | Official Yearly Cost (I-20 estimate) | INR Equivalent |
|---|---|---|---|
| BS Bioengineering | Full-time UG billed per term (12–17 credits) | $86,267 (total yearly attendance estimate) | ~₹82.79 lakhs |
| BS Civil Engineering | Same as above | $86,267 | ~₹82.79 lakhs |
| BS Applied Physics | Same as above | $86,267 | ~₹82.79 lakhs |
| BS Mathematics | Same as above | $86,267 | ~₹82.79 lakhs |
| BA Computer Science | Same as above | $86,267 | ~₹82.79 lakhs |
What this means for Indian applicants: Hofstra’s UG yearly cost number is visa-ready (useful for loan planning), but your actual billed amount will still depend on your housing choice and whether you live on or off campus.
Hofstra University Graduate Courses and Fees for Fall 2026
For graduate programs, the biggest point is whether your program is billed at Zarb ($1,800/credit) or the general graduate rate ($1,760/credit).
| Graduate Programs | School / Tuition Rate | Credits (if published) | Tuition-only Estimate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Master of Public Health | Non-Zarb grad rate: $1,760/credit | 42 credits | ~$73,920 (₹70.94 lakhs) |
| MS Business Analytics | Zarb rate: $1,800/credit | 30 semester hours | ~$54,000 (₹51.82 lakhs) |
| MS Health Informatics | Non-Zarb grad rate: $1,760/credit | 36 credits | ~$63,360 (₹60.80 lakhs) |
| MEd Early Childhood Education | Non-Zarb grad rate: $1,760/credit | Check bulletin (credits can vary by pathway) | Rate-based |
| MA Industrial/Organizational Psychology | Non-Zarb grad rate: $1,760/credit | Check bulletin (credits can vary) | Rate-based |
| MBA (Zarb School of Business) | Zarb rate: $1,800/credit | Track-dependent | Rate-based |
What this means for Indian applicants: if you want the best “cost control,” the most predictable pathway is choosing a program with a clearly published credit total (like MPH, MS Business Analytics, MS Health Informatics) and then estimating tuition as credits × per-credit rate.
Hofstra University Fees Breakdown for Fall 2026
Hofstra’s international Estimated Costs page is especially useful because it is explicitly tied to I-20 issuance documentation and shows a clean breakdown of tuition/fees vs living costs.
| Cost Component (Fall 2026 estimate) | Undergraduate | Grad – Zarb Business | Grad – Other Programs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total estimated yearly attendance (I-20 figure) | $86,267 (₹82.79 lakhs) | $61,619 (₹59.13 lakhs) | $60,863 (₹58.41 lakhs) |
| Tuition (year) | $61,088 (₹58.62 lakhs) | $33,624 (₹32.26 lakhs) | $32,868 (₹31.54 lakhs) |
| Tuition + fees (year) | $62,258 (₹59.75 lakhs) | $34,594 (₹33.20 lakhs) | $33,838 (₹32.47 lakhs) |
| Living expenses (year) | $18,688 (₹17.93 lakhs) | $21,704 (₹20.82 lakhs) | (included in total column) |
| Room/housing example used | High-rise double | Graduate hall double | Graduate hall double |
| Meals example used | Level 5 plan | Plan 2 | Plan 2 |
What this means for Indian applicants: This table is close to what a bank/loan provider expects when you ask for a sanctioned amount, because it aligns with the I-20 requirement used for visa paperwork. Visit our cost of studying in USA guide for more information.
Hofstra University Admissions Deadlines 2026
Hofstra uses a mix of Early Action timelines (helpful if you want better scholarship consideration) and international guidance deadlines (important for visa time). For scholarship-linked planning, Hofstra explicitly recommends applying Early Action for certain high-value awards.
| Level | Intake | Deadline / Guidance | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Undergraduate | Fall 2026 | Early Action 1: Nov 15 | Recommended for top merit consideration (e.g., Trustee) |
| Undergraduate | Fall 2026 | Early Action 2: Dec 15 | Also referenced in scholarship guidance |
| International (I-20 planning) | Fall 2026 | Use Hofstra’s I-20 cost documentation + financial evidence | Financial docs required for I-20 |
| Graduate | Fall 2026 | Program-dependent | Confirm on each program page; tuition rates are published centrally |
What this means for Indian applicants: If you need an education loan + visa timeline buffer, treat Early Action as your safest path, because it reduces scholarship uncertainty and increases time for I-20 processing.

Hofstra University Admissions Requirements 2026
Hofstra’s international workflow is clearly “two-step”: admission evaluation first, then I-20 document submission after acceptance (including conditional acceptance cases).
Hofstra University Admissions Requirements 2026
| Requirement Type | Undergraduate (International) | Graduate (General guidance) |
|---|---|---|
| English proficiency | IELTS 6.5+, TOEFL iBT 80+, Duolingo 120+ | Program may set its own minimum; confirm per department |
| Application fee | International UG application fee $75 | Graduate application fee $75 (some programs listed at $50) |
| Core documents | Academic records/transcripts, passport ID page | Transcripts, SOP, LORs (varies by program) |
| Visa/I-20 documents | Financial documents totaling one-year costs required for I-20 | Same I-20 financial documentation requirement applies |
What this means for Indian applicants: keep your financial documentation clean and bank-verifiable from the start, because Hofstra’s I-20 total is explicit and the university expects proof at that level.
Student Tip (India-focused): If you’re using an Indian education loan, ask your lender for a letter that explicitly mentions (1) sanctioned amount, (2) disbursement conditions, and (3) coverage for living expenses—because the I-20 total includes housing/insurance, not just tuition.
Hofstra University MBA Specializations 2026
Hofstra’s MBA sits under the Zarb School of Business, and tuition is billed at the Zarb graduate per-credit rate. What makes Hofstra’s MBA relevant to Indian applicants is the ability to align the degree with a functional specialization—useful for targeting OPT-friendly job roles and clearer interview narratives.
Based on Hofstra’s MBA pathway information, the MBA offers multiple concentration-style directions (the exact naming may vary by catalog/year), typically spanning areas such as:
- Accounting
- Finance
- Marketing
- International Business
- Information Systems / Analytics-aligned pathways
- Management and strategy-focused options
How to choose (India-specific logic):
- If your goal is US internships in NYC, “Finance/Analytics/Information Systems” style pathways usually map better to recruiter keywords.
- If you’re switching domains (e.g., engineering → business), “Management” can be safer, but you must build a strong project/internship story early.
- If you’re targeting healthcare-adjacent roles (common among Indian applicants), pair MBA coursework with healthcare operations exposure and network via local associations.
What this means for Indian applicants: treat the MBA specialization decision as a job-search strategy, not just an academic preference—because it shapes internships, OPT roles, and resume positioning.
Hofstra University Campus and Accommodation 2026
Hofstra’s campus is officially described as a 244-acre arboretum-recognized campus, which often appeals to students who prefer a traditional US campus environment rather than a dense city campus. Residence Life also notes a range of options including traditional residence halls and apartment-style options for graduate, law, and medical students.
Hofstra University Accommodation Options and Costs 2026
Hofstra’s international “Estimated Costs” page provides a concrete reference cost for typical housing and meal assumptions.
| Student Type | Housing assumption used in official estimate | Housing cost (year) | Meals (year) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Undergraduate | High-rise double room | $12,714 | $5,840 | International Estimated Costs |
| Graduate | Graduate hall double room | $17,750 | $3,820 | International Estimated Costs |
| General housing options | High-rise/suite-style + grad apartments (availability-based) | Varies | Varies | Residence Life overview |
What this means for Indian applicants: if your priority is controlling costs, living on-campus can simplify budgeting and reduce commute risk in your first semester—especially while you’re adapting to US academics and job search routines.
Hofstra University Scholarships 2026
Hofstra publishes unusually clear named merit award ranges for first-year students, including full-tuition and large per-year awards. For international students, Hofstra also states that if you qualify, your merit scholarship is typically reflected directly in your admission letter.
Hofstra University Scholarships Table
| Scholarship | Level | Amount / Range | Key Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trustee Scholars Program | UG | Full tuition | Very limited (~30 offers mentioned) |
| Presidential Scholars | UG | $35,000/year | Offered to a significant share of admits (Hofstra states ~31%) |
| Provost Scholars | UG | $29,500–$34,000/year | Hofstra states ~40% of admitted students |
| Dean’s Scholars | UG | $10,000–$29,000/year | Hofstra states ~27% of admitted students |
| Hofstra Grant Programs | UG | Up to $5,000/year | Holistic review |
| MPH merit-based scholarships | PG | Amount not fixed publicly | Program notes merit review by director |
| International merit scholarship (general note) | UG/PG | Varies | Mentioned as automatic on admission letter if qualified |
What this means for Indian applicants: Hofstra can be financially compelling only if you land a strong merit award—so applying earlier and presenting a clean academic profile matters.
Hofstra University Career Outcomes 2026
Hofstra’s international admissions page highlights a job placement rate “above 93%” (scope and definition are not fully detailed on that page). For Indian students, the more practical lens is: Long Island + NYC access can materially increase internship and networking opportunities, but you must plan proactively because you’re not physically in Manhattan every day.
Hofstra University Job Outcomes 2026
| Metric | What’s published | Notes for Indian applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Job placement (general claim) | “Above 93%” | Treat as a directional indicator; validate by school/program conversations |
What this means for Indian applicants: assume outcomes depend heavily on your program + internship execution; Hofstra’s location helps, but you still need a structured internship search plan from Month 1.
Student Tip (India-focused): For NYC internships, start networking before landing in the US—LinkedIn outreach + alumni chats + short project portfolio can matter more than grades alone.
Hofstra University Comparison With Peer Universities 2026
Hofstra is often compared with other private universities in the New York metro region. To keep this comparison data-backed, the table below uses only figures published on each university’s official/campus catalog pages.
| University | UG tuition (annual) | Grad tuition indicator | Why it’s a peer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hofstra University | I-20 estimated yearly total $86,267 (UG) | $1,800/credit (Zarb); $1,760/credit (most other grads) | Private, NYC-access, strong business/health/STEM mix |
| Adelphi University (Garden City, NY) | $50,110/year tuition (standard UG programs) | (Varies by program; check Adelphi grad tuition page) | Long Island private; similar geography |
| Pace University (NYC/Westchester) | $52,924/year full-time flat UG tuition (catalog) | Many grad programs listed per-credit (example: $1,585/credit for some MS) | Strong NYC positioning; often higher living costs |
| New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) | $46,000/year UG tuition | Published cost pages (varies by program) | Tech-leaning private; NYC/LI presence |
What this means for Indian applicants: Hofstra’s standout advantage is official Fall 2026 I-20 cost clarity plus strong scholarship ranges; peers may look cheaper on tuition, but total visa-ready cost and scholarship probability often decide the real affordability.
Hofstra University Acceptance Rate 2026
As of Fall 2025, Hofstra University acceptance rate stands at 73% (as reported in the official Common Data Set, published by the university). Indian applicants should treat any acceptance-rate number seen on third-party sites as non-official and focus instead on profile fit (grades, English scores, SOP, and program prerequisites).
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Official acceptance rate | 73% (as of Fall 2025, published in the Common Data Set) |
| Practical applicant takeaway | Apply earlier (especially for scholarships) and focus on strong documentation quality |
Hofstra University can be a smart choice for Indian students who want a New York–region education with a real campus experience and a clear financial planning framework for visa documentation. The biggest strength is Hofstra’s transparency on Fall 2026 international estimated costs and its published merit scholarship ranges, which can materially reduce your net cost if you qualify. The trade-off is that outcomes are highly dependent on how well you use NYC proximity—internships, networking, and skill-building need to begin early. If you are applying to job-aligned programs like MS Business Analytics, MS Health Informatics, or an MBA with a strong concentration choice, Hofstra can deliver good ROI—especially when combined with scholarship support and a disciplined internship plan.
Hofstra University FAQs 2026
Ques. Can I use my Hofstra scholarship amount to meet I-20 financial requirements?
Ans. Yes. Hofstra’s international estimated costs page explicitly notes that merit scholarship awards can be included in financial evidence to meet the required total for I-20 issuance. Practical tip: keep a printed copy of your admission letter showing scholarship and combine it with loan + bank statements.
Ques. What’s the most important deadline strategy if I’m targeting top scholarships?
Ans. Hofstra’s scholarship page recommends applying Early Action for top awards (it explicitly mentions applying by Nov 15 or Dec 15 for Early Action cycles). Actionable tip: submit your application with a strong academic profile early even if you’re still finalizing loan plans.
Ques. Do I have to submit official English scores at the time of application?
Ans. Hofstra notes that certain English test scores can be self-submitted, but must ultimately be issued by the testing body. Tip: self-submit initially to avoid delays, but immediately book your official score reports to reduce processing time.
Ques. What should I budget for housing if I want a visa-safe estimate?
Ans. A visa-safe approach is to use Hofstra’s own assumptions: UG housing example $12,714 and meals $5,840, or grad housing example $17,750 and meals $3,820. Tip: even if you plan to live off-campus later, starting with on-campus estimates keeps your documentation conservative.
Ques. How do I decide between MS Business Analytics and MS Health Informatics at Hofstra?
Ans. Use two filters: (a) tuition rate (Zarb vs non-Zarb) and (b) your target job market. If you want broader business/consulting analytics roles, MS Business Analytics is the direct path (30 semester hours published). If you want healthcare-tech roles (data, systems, informatics), MS Health Informatics is a better narrative fit (36 credits published).

- They have a career center where you can go for guidance, mock interviews etc. They share relevant job/internship opportunities with you as well.
- There is a career fair every semester where companies come to the campus and you can know about the current openings plus network with the company employees.
- The most helpful thing is that in my final semester, I’ll get an option for co-op program, which is basically an internship which the university will find for me and if the student performs well, it can be converted to full time job offer as well.
Dislikes
- The campus life is pretty dull, there isn't much interaction between seniors and juniors.
- The campus does not allow the storage of electric scooters/cycles/skateboards, so either you have to buy a car or walk across the campus.
- Professors are super chill ie. they don't care if you are studying or not even coming to the classes. Although they will help you if you make an effort to reach them.
Campus Life
- My college has only one campus.
- The facilities include, a central library, sports fields such as baseball stadium, hockey stadium, football ground. There is a swimming pool, gym, badminton court. In-house medical center.
- Fall festival is the major campus festival in my university. The clubs include graduate management association, women in cybersecurity, Hofstra Marketing club etc.
- There are weekly sports events for basketball and football where players compete with different universities.
Fees
- $60,000 for full MBA Course (2 years), and around $8,800 per semester for hostel (graduate residence hall).
- The fee is semester wise or you can also request for a payment plan where you can pay in installments.
- Since I live in New York, therefore the price of regular grocery items to taxis is very high.
- The monthly expense if a person is living outside the university on rented room is $800 for the room + $300 for food and grocery (assuming that the student is not registering for campus eatery program and cooking at home; campus eatery is around $2600 per semester).

Overview
They had a really good drama department with a BA in Drama which allowed me to double major and also minor in musical theatre. My other major, psychology is also really good at Hofstra and they make sure your schedule fits everything.
Fees
A lot of people come to the school on one of the huge academic scholarships they give out but it still ends up being around $30,000 even if a scholarship covers half of the original cost. Also, classes don't cover mandatory purchases so you have to be ready to fish out hundreds of dollars on trips to the city if need be, and not to mention the cost of textbooks.
