US News also recognises four CofC undergraduate programs: #4 Best Undergraduate Teaching (Regional South), #194 Best Undergraduate Business, #235 Best Undergraduate Psychology and #294 Best Undergraduate Computer Science. The Regional Universities South list covers institutions offering Master’s programs alongside undergraduate degrees within a defined 12 state southern region.
Key insight: Indian applicants often over-weight QS World rankings when choosing US colleges. For US regional publics like CofC, US News regional rank plus subject accreditation matter more for H-1B employer recognition than a global rank number.

- Employment rate: Not officially disclosed at institution level
- Median starting salary: $52,000 per year (₹49.2 Lakh) for South Carolina bachelor’s graduates (market median, US Bureau of Labor Statistics data)

College of Charleston vs Peer Universities
Peer set below covers South Carolina publics plus one regional cross-state option that Indian applicants typically shortlist alongside CofC for a mid-selectivity US Bachelor’s or Master’s route.
| University | QS Rank 2027 | Collegedunia Study Abroad | Avg Annual PG Fee (USD / ₹) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| College of Charleston | Not ranked | #631 of 824 | $15,840 (₹15.0 Lakh) | Coastal liberal arts, lowest graduate tuition among SC publics |
| University of South Carolina Columbia | #661 to #670 | NA | $32,000 (₹30.3 Lakh) (market median) | Flagship state research university with larger PhD base |
| Clemson University | #661 to #670 | NA | $29,500 (₹27.9 Lakh) (market median) | Strong engineering and computing recruitment pipeline |
| Coastal Carolina University | Not ranked | NA | $18,300 (₹17.3 Lakh) (market median) | Lower non-resident sticker price for teaching-heavy Masters |
| Winthrop University | Not ranked | NA | $21,500 (₹20.3 Lakh) (market median) | Small-cohort MBA and MS Human Nutrition programs |
[Source: QS World University Rankings 2027, Collegedunia Study Abroad]
College of Charleston stands out on price-to-recognition among South Carolina publics, running lower graduate tuition than the state flagship while holding a decade-long US News Best Colleges regional top-10 slot. Bachelor’s-level buyers pick CofC for its coastal setting plus liberal arts curriculum rather than for pure STEM research strength.
Indian applicants who want a walkable historic campus, a mid-selectivity admit profile and total investment under $32,000 (₹30.3 Lakh) for a two-year Master’s find College of Charleston a rational fit. Median starting salary of $52,000 (₹49.2 Lakh) for South Carolina bachelor’s graduates plus a 12 to 36 month study in USA OPT pathway keeps first-job ROI defensible.
The college is not the right pick for applicants aiming at large-cohort STEM PhD paths or Fortune 500 on-campus recruiting scale. Those profiles fit better at Clemson University or the University of South Carolina Columbia.
College of Charleston FAQs
Ques. Does College of Charleston offer online Master’s programs for Indian students?
Ans. Yes. The College of Charleston Graduate School runs online and hybrid options for the Master of Public Administration, Master of Education in Science and Math for Teachers and several graduate certificates. Indian students on F-1 visas cannot use fully online routes because F-1 rules require at least nine credits of in-person instruction each semester, so online programs suit part-time domestic learners rather than international arrivals.
Ques. Can F-1 students work part-time at College of Charleston?
Ans. Yes. F-1 students at CofC are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week on-campus during Fall and Spring semesters, and up to 40 hours per week during official college breaks. Off-campus employment needs prior CPT or OPT authorisation from the International Student and Scholar Services office. Common on-campus roles include library aide, dining hall associate and departmental research assistant.
Ques. What is the College of Charleston application fee for international applicants?
Ans. The undergraduate application fee is $50 for international applicants, while graduate applications typically charge $60. Fee waivers are limited to specific college fairs or partner-organisation nominations rather than open request. Indian applicants applying through CofC campus recruiters at India-based education fairs may receive a waiver code, so it is worth checking with the international office before paying.
Ques. Which Indian banks provide education loans recognised by CofC?
Ans. State Bank of India, HDFC Credila, Avanse, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank routinely finance College of Charleston admissions for Indian students. The Certificate of Finance form issued by the International Student Services office is accepted by all major Indian lenders as proof of tuition obligation. Loan sanction letters must show one full year of tuition plus living costs to satisfy the I-20 financial documentation threshold.
Ques. Can Indian applicants get a TOEFL or IELTS waiver at CofC?
Ans. Yes, but only when specific conditions apply. Indian applicants who completed a Bachelor’s degree in English at an accredited institution can request a waiver by emailing international@cofc.edu. Class 12 in English-medium alone does not automatically waive testing for undergraduate applicants. iTEP Academic Plus 3.8 and DuoLingo 105 are also accepted alongside the standard IELTS and TOEFL routes.
Ques. Does the College of Charleston MBA require GMAT or GRE scores?
Ans. The CofC MBA accepts a GMAT or GRE waiver for applicants who hold a Bachelor’s degree with a 3.25 GPA or higher on the 4.0 scale, or five years of professional work experience. Indian applicants converting from a 10 point CGPA scale should present a WES evaluation confirming the US GPA equivalent. Waiver requests are decided by the School of Business admissions committee case-by-case.
Ques. How do Indian dependents apply for F-2 visas at College of Charleston?
Ans. Dependents of admitted F-1 students receive an F-2 visa for spouses and children under 21. The primary applicant must first obtain the I-20 form from CofC International Student Services and provide financial proof covering dependent living costs, typically $6,000 to $8,000 per dependent per year. F-2 spouses cannot work in the US but may enrol in part-time academic study.
Ques. What refund policy applies if an Indian student withdraws from CofC?
Ans. The College of Charleston Treasurer’s Office refunds 100% of tuition for withdrawal before the first week of classes, 90% during the first week, 60% during the second week and 40% during the third week. No refund is issued after the fourth week of the semester. Housing fees follow a separate proration schedule handled by Residence Life staff at CofC.

Overview
I chose the College of Charleston because of the beauty of the location, the study abroad programs, a liberal arts education, a major interest offered, and because of the moving experience of being somewhere with a deep history.
Fees
The education fees are efficient, and done entirely online through a confidential portal accessed through your student account. Predictions for fees are weighed into total school cost but a student could survive here just fine with just a meal plan and a living space. The campus is compact.
Overview
The interdisciplinary major was super broad. The weather and the ability to major in sustainable Ed. I ride my bike to class and have a very strong community there. I couldn't ask for a better college. The atmosphere is great. The majority of the professors actually want you to do well and will help you if you put in the effort or go to their office hours. Plus, Charleston is an amazing city. So much to do and so many great people
Fees
I had a full scholarship. I know the structure is $30,000 a year period most people receive at least half of that run $15,000 in financial aid period most of my friends pay Leston $5000 a semester and at the end of each semester applying for eligibility for further scholarship.
