TNJFU B.F.Sc : Fees 2025, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Established in 2012, Tamil Nadu Fisheries University, Chennai (TNFU) is a State-funded Fisheries University imparting professional education, research and training to enhance fish production and utilization by following the State Agricultural University (SAU) pattern and syllabi. With its head quarters at Nagapattinam, the university has 3 constituent institutes which offer various undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes to its students.

TNFU offers the following bachelor degree programmes every year: 

• Bachelor in Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc.)
• Bachelor in Engineering (B.E. in Fisheries Engineering)

Only candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu State who possess the relevant qualifying degree can register for these programmes. Seats are reserved for people belonging to reserved categories such as SC/ST/BC etc. as well as special categories viz. Differently-abled, Children of Freedom Fighter etc. Check TNFU Admission

Candidates will be shortlisted for admission to the programmes on the basis of marks secured in the qualifying degree examination. Those interested can register for admission by filling-in the online application form and submitting it along with the required processing fee.

TNFU B.F.Sc Eligibility

Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc.) – 60 seats

Duration of the Programme: 4 years

Eligibility:

• Candidates should belong to Tamil Nadu State and must be below the age of 21 as on 1st of July of the concerned year. For SC/SCA/ST candidates, there is no age limit
• Candidates should possess the Higher Secondary Course (10+2)/CBSE/any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto
• The following minimum aggregate is required for different categories of candidates:

Bachelor of Engineering (B.E. in Fisheries Engineering) – 20 seats

Duration of the Programme: 4 years

Eligibility:

• Candidates should belong to Tamil Nadu State and must be below the age of 21 as on 1st of July of the concerned year. For SC/SCA/ST candidates, there is no age limit
• Candidates should possess the Higher Secondary Course (10+2)/CBSE/any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto

TNFU B.F.Sc Admission Process

Candidates will be selected for the programme on the basis of their marks in the qualifying examination (H.Sc./equivalent). Selection for admission to B.F.Sc. and B.E. degree courses will be done through counselling.

Counselling and Admission Fee (Non-refundable)

• For OC / BC / BCM / MBC / DNC candidates: Rs. 1000/-
• For SC / SCA / ST candidates: Rs. 500/-

• Scholarships given by Govt. of India, Government of Tamil Nadu and Indian Council of Agricultural Research
• TNFU Merit Scholarship
• Pattukottai Azhagiri Endowment scholarship

Hostel Facilities:

Hostel are available for the students in each campus and the messes are run on a dividend system.

How to Apply?

Candidates must apply for admission through online registration process and submit completed application. All fields in the application form should be correctly and completely filled-in with the relevant information.

• Candidate should log on to the university website and follow the given steps:
  • In the “Admissions” section, click on “Online Application” Link
  • Click on “Apply Now” button and fill-in the application form
  • Click on “Save” button if you need to make any changes or click on “Submit” button if all the particulars are correct
  • Upon clicking “Submit” button, pay the registration fee through the available online payment modes
  • Upon successful submission, the candidate will receive a confirmation mail along with your Login ID and Application Number
  • Candidate must download the completed applications for subsequent use
• The candidate must bring his downloaded application and the following certificates in original along with two sets of attested copies at the time of counselling:
  • HSC/CBSE/other equivalent mark sheet
  • Transfer Certificate
  • Community Certificate (For OC candidates community certificate not required)
  • Certificates for Special categories, if required
  • Nativity Certificate if required
  • First Graduate Certificate and Joint declaration form, if required

Important Note:

• Application fee for OC / BC / BCM / MBC / DNC candidates: Rs. 600/-
• Application fee for SC / SCA / ST candidates: Rs. 300/-

Reservation Criteria

Selection shall be made as per the rules of reservation of the Government of Tamil Nadu for the following different categories:

• Open Competition
• Backward Class
• Backward Class (Muslims)
• Most Backward Class / Denotified Communities
• Scheduled Caste
• Scheduled Caste Arunthathiyars
• Scheduled Tribe

Few seats are also reserved for special categories such as Differently-abled, Sports persons, Children of Freedom Fighter and Children of Ex-serviceman and for students from vocational stream, as detailed below:

• Differently-abled: 3% of the total number of seats is reserved for the differently-abled candidates.
• Sports Persons: 2 seats are reserved for sports person only for B.F.Sc. degree programme.
• Children of Freedom Fighter: Reservation is not applicable to adopted / foster children grandchildren of the Freedom Fighters under this category.
• Children of Ex-Serviceman: The candidates can also apply for Academic Stream of the qualifying examination for B.F.Sc. degree course under Children of Ex-Serviceman Quota.
