IITK From Sparsh's Perspective

Likes

The freedom that the college provide is so immence. We can litterally go out anytime we want without any disturbance from the authority
The time given for working on self is also a positive thing. We are litterally given 4 months out 12 as a holidays or breaks to work on your skills.
The placements of the college is so good.

Dislikes

The Academic is very tough. You have to grind those 4 months real hard in order to get good grades

Placement Experience:

So the placements of IITK is so good. As it is one of the top colleges of engineering in india, the placement here are quite good. The Average pakages according to last year stats is somewhere around 22 lakhs. And then the we have branch-wise average Pakages too. The students becomes elgible for interhsip in his/her 5th semester and for the placement in his/her 7th semester. The American Express & Jp Morgon visited IITK and has made 11 and 6 offers respectively. The percentage of students getting placed are high , usually higher than 85 percent. I planned on preapring for UPSC after the my degree.

From 7 th semester students become eligible for campus placement. Many companies visited like nvidia, oracle, optiver, graviton, amazon ,flipkart,Meesho, zomato etc Highest package I know is approximately 1.5 cr internationally. Almost 90 percent are placed.

IIT-K ka tempo high hai. Come join this premier institute for a great college life and beyond.

Likes

Campus is huge, and green all around. You'll enjoy summer evenings sitting at the CCD.
Most of the professors are great at what they do.
You get to make friends with the best folks.

Dislikes

IITK is a bit too strict on academics than some of the other IITs.
Kanpur being a smaller corporate centre than Delhi or Mumbai; students get a bit less exposure for internships.
Like in any other college, some professors are not as great as others.

Placement Experience:

Placements sessions are organised by students run placement cell. They work round the clock for the benefit of the students community. You will get workshops and tutorials that will get you ready for placements.

A huge campus of over 1055 acres and a good infrastructure.
If you do well then you will surely get placed. Good scenario and great intership opportunity

Placement Experience:

After the end of 6 th semester, students need to submit the resume for the placements. At this time my senior placements are going on and they are much better. Like on first day half of the batch got placed. All the it sector company are there you can apply for. Highest package was around 2 cr and average was 25 lakhs. 70 to 80 percent of the students get placed, rest of the students either go for the masters or PhD or some other goal. I am pretty sure after my degree completion i would get an average package but I just wanted to be a civil servant.

The faculty at IIT Kanpur is highly qualified, with many wonderful professors being experts in their fields. They are very humble and down to earth. you can always approach them for doubts or projects.
The campus infrastructure is really good. The hostel facilities are wonderful providing high speed internet, spacious rooms to live in. The campus also has maintained classrooms. modern labs, libraries and research centers.
There are numerous clubs, teams and councils providing opportunities for leadership and skill development. The placement cell at IIT Kanpur is also very effective, providing real- world exposure before graduation.

Dislikes

The gender ratio at IIT Kanpur is skewed, with a low girls to boys ratio. Currently, the girl-boy ratio is 1:4. This occasionally impacts the diversity in certain programs or group activities. The situation is gradually improving as more females come
The academic workload can sometimes be overwhelming, especially when you have a lot of courses in which you have to excel as well as multiple projects. The focus on theoretical knowledge can sometimes outweigh the practical applications in courses
While student engagement is high, the campus life can sometimes feel isolated with a limited number of social events that bring together the entire student body. The students that are far from home, and they start missing their family

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for campus placements starting from 7th semester of their UG program. IIT Kanpur attracts top tier companies accross multiple sectors including tech, finance, consulting, core and research roles. Major companies visit IIT Kanpur like Microsoft, Amazon, IBM, Intel, McKinsey, BCG, ONGC, ExxonMobil, Schlumberger, Reliance Industries,JP Morgan, Flipkart and many more. The highest package came from international offers with salaries ranging upto 1-.5-2 crore per annum for roles in tech, finance and consuting. The average package across all sectors hovers around 15-20 lakhs per annum. The placement rate at IIT Kanpur is typically very high with aroung 85-95% of students securing jobs through campus placements, depending on the department and year. For highly sought after branches like CSE and EE the placement rate approaches 100%. My plans after completing the degree involve exploring further academic opportunites particularly in research or pursuing a PhD in ES

There are diverse opportunities to learn new things at IITK
There are good sports and extra curricular facilities as well.
The alumni network and seniors are great. You can get help regarding anything.

Dislikes

Almost everyone here is smart resulting in too much competition.
Sometimes the results of certain club activities are biased.

Placement Experience:

The placement statistics of IITK is great. Every year many 1cr+ packages as well as international packages are offered by top companies to students. The placement percentage is also increasing every year. The students become eligible to apply for companies after 3rd year ie. after 6th semester. The highest package offered was 4cr per annum while the average package was 22lacs per annum. My plan after getting the degree is to get a good paying job and start working.

There are a lot of trees providing us a healthy environment to live and study in.
It provides various other opportunities to shine like in sports music gaming etc.
The staff is very answerable to the students and the faculty is very good

Gender ratio is not good enough here in IIT kanpur

There campus placements are very impressive. But in our branch the placement have not been started because it is new branch but it have very promising hopes of good employment in the upcoming years. The companies visiting ar Google, Microsoft and many big MNC. I am thinking of doing MBA after my degree .

The academics here may be tough but they are enjoyable. Professors are good and the cources here train you to be great. They are tough but relevant
The clubs here provide great exposure to various things. There are both cultural and technology clubs
The campus is green beautiful great with lots of buildings and facilities. Freedom is high. You have no hostel restrictions.

Dislikes

Climate is extreme. It's too cold or too hot during winters and summers.
The grading is harsh you have to work really hard to score.

Placement Experience:

The college offers various placement opportunities. Many companies come and take people. It's usually starts in the month of December in the final year. I can tell about my branch average package is 33 lakhs and about some 90 lakh is highest package. Various tech non teach companies come like Google, Microsoft, sprinkler etc The minimum salary offered is 6 lakh per annum. People can easily get placement outside college because of IIT tag.

Campus is super clean and hygienic.You will not see even slightest of dust on road and no noise of horns.

Course is relevant but it maybe little bit hectic in starting. Maths courses are lot theoretical than JEE where you only have to calculate and no matter how. Here you have to write a mathematical essay on a question and essay should be to the point too

What is your review of the earth sciences department at IIT Kanpur?

The Earth Sciences is a Department imparting education related to the study of Earth and its geological reliefs. The best part about this Department is that every course here overlaps with some or the other course of other departments making it a multifaceted one.

Earth Sciences curriculum overlaps with many courses in Material Science and Physics, Civil and Chemical, and even Electrical and CSE. This provides diversity in the overall learning experience of the course making it very interesting.

The only major issue is that due to common courses, the curriculum is vague and has no well-defined structure and content. We hope that this flaw is taken care of in the near future.

The program provides versatile job prospects even in the field of Satellite Remote Sensing, weather prediction, and geothermal power plants.

Is IIT Guwahati becoming the next IIT Kanpur?

Both IIT Guwahati and IIT Kanpur are well-respected institutions, known for their high-quality education and research. Comparing the two is already justified and saying that one institution is becoming the next of the other is more so. Both institutions have their strengths and areas of expertise. Yet, if I was to choose one I would have always gone for IIT Kanpur.

Some points that favor my preference are as follows:

The quality of coursework at IIT Kanpur is extremely challenging and will keep you on your toes always. It offers the best quality of education and you will learn much more than other IITs if you are regular to classes and take your academics seriously,
The usual schedule of a student at IIT Kanpur is not always jammed, unlike the general opinion. The timings of the clubs align with the classes and you can take out time for both if you are good at managing your time well.
Another challenging aspect of IIT Kanpur is its tough grading system, (10,8,6,4..) under which anything below 10 is 8. Thus you are under tremendous pressure to maintain your CGPA and is enough of a motivating factor.

Overall, even if Guwahati was to be compared to IIT Kanpur, it still has a long way to go until it becomes the next IIT Kanpur.
