GNDU FAQS

Ques. How is Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar?

Ans. GNDU is one of India's top-tier central universities, ranked 48th nationally with NAAC A++ accreditation. The university offers excellent academic infrastructure, world-class sports facilities, and a vibrant 500-acre campus. With over 40,000 students from diverse backgrounds, GNDU provides quality education with strong placement support. The university's teaching faculty comprises experienced professionals who focus on both academics and holistic development. Students appreciate the peaceful campus environment, accessible libraries, modern laboratories, and diverse student activities. GNDU's affordable fees, especially compared to private universities, make quality education accessible to all economic backgrounds, creating an inclusive learning community.

Ques. How is the checking of GNDU?

Ans. GNDU follows a credit-based continuous evaluation and grading system on a 10-point scale. Evaluation includes internal assessments through minor tests and major tests conducted by the university. Faculty members check assignments and papers within stipulated timeframes, and results are displayed on notice boards transparently. GNDU emphasises quality evaluation based on academic performance, not just volume of written content. Evaluation criteria focus on understanding, conceptual clarity, and problem-solving abilities. Students receive detailed feedback through returned answer scripts before major tests. The university maintains strict academic standards with regular quality assurance checks to ensure fair and transparent grading across all departments.

Ques. What are some helpful tips for students starting their first year at GNDU?

Ans. Connect with seniors and faculty members for guidance on academics and campus life. Explore the 500-acre campus to understand facilities including the library, laboratories, sports complex, and canteen. Attend departmental orientation sessions to understand program structure and expectations. Balance studies with participation in student clubs and cultural activities to develop soft skills. Utilise the fitness center and sports facilities for physical wellness alongside academic pursuits. Form study groups with classmates to understand complex topics better through peer learning. Maintain regular attendance and submit assignments on time to build discipline. Engage in hostel activities if staying on campus to develop leadership qualities. Make use of counselling services and academic support provided by the Dean of Students Welfare for any challenges.

Ques. Which is better for engineering, GNDU or PTU?

Ans. Both GNDU and PTU are reputable engineering institutions with different strengths. GNDU ranks 48th nationally with A++ NAAC accreditation, offering stronger academics and stricter evaluation standards. PTU ranks lower but provides more flexible examination policies. GNDU median package stands at INR 4.95-7.70 LPA while PTU averages INR 3-6 LPA. GNDU's placement rate is 80-85%, comparable to PTU's 75-80%. For serious academics and higher placements, GNDU is preferable. PTU suits students preferring relaxed examination policies. GNDU B.Tech fees (INR 2.74-11.92 lakhs) and PTU fees are comparable. Overall, GNDU is better for students prioritising academic rigour, higher placements, and government university recognition.

Ques. Is it true that GNDU gives marks on the basis of the number of pages?

Ans. This is a misconception. GNDU follows a credit-based continuous evaluation and grading system based on academic performance, not answer sheet pages. Evaluation focuses on content quality, conceptual understanding, problem-solving abilities, and clarity of thought. Faculty members evaluate based on the 10-point grading scale, considering depth of knowledge rather than quantity. Lengthy answers without substantive content typically receive lower marks. GNDU's evaluation emphasizes quality over quantity, encouraging concise and precise responses. The university emphasizes transparency through returned answer scripts and feedback. Marks are awarded for demonstrating understanding of concepts, proper use of terminology, and logical reasoning, regardless of pages filled. Students should focus on understanding concepts thoroughly rather than writing lengthy responses.

Ques. Is there any gym in GNDU Amritsar?

Ans. Yes, GNDU has a world-class fitness center built on 3,000 square feet with modern equipment. The facility cost approximately INR 1 crore and features cardio zone, strength zone, and free exercise zone with equipment like treadmills, cross trainers, leg press, and cable machines. Three qualified trainers provide professional guidance to students. The gym offers nominal membership fees for students, faculty, employees, and outsiders. Operating hours are typically 9 AM to 7 PM daily, with multiple zones catering to different fitness levels. The fitness centre promotes student wellness and healthy lifestyle choices. Located in the Dean of Students Welfare building, it provides convenient access to students for physical fitness alongside academic studies.

Ques. What are the best student organisations or clubs to join at GNDU? Why should students join them?

Ans. GNDU offers diverse student clubs including the Technical Students' Society (TSS) for CSE students, Fine Arts Club, Dance Club, and various departmental societies. NSS (National Service Scheme) and NCC provide leadership and community service opportunities. Sports clubs cater to cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, swimming, and other activities. Joining clubs develops soft skills like teamwork, leadership, communication, and public speaking essential for career success. Clubs provide networking platforms connecting you with seniors, peers, and industry professionals. Participation enhances resume value for placements and higher studies. TSS and technical clubs offer exposure to emerging technologies, workshops, and industry connections. Cultural clubs develop creative abilities and provide stress relief through artistic expression. Clubs create lasting friendships and enrich college experience beyond academics, making your university journey memorable and holistic.

GNDU: Place where lessons are learned and memories are made

Students view on course curriculum and examination of the college

I have always wanted to do computer in engineering I chose university because I know several people who studied in engineering from this place and have been well settled abroad. This university is valued a lot by the universities of abroad as well. foreign engineering. They follow the basic protocol, which are provided by each engineering college. as I said that the conduct its exam for 30 marks for that you get one hour to write the paper and the one that happens such a final semester exam for that you get three hours to write the exam. improvement of the curriculum. I would like the university to focus more on the practical knowledge and bookish knowledge.

Placement scenario of the campus, average and highest package being offered

so every year different companies visit our campus and people from the fourth year are able to see for the placement. Firstly, we have to clear a written entrance test once clear that the company will interview them and get the job so the highest package last year went 25,00,00 per annum. However, the average package is six lakh per annum. It completely depends upon your CGPA and your personal skills, how much you groom yourself to be fit for that company. Tech and non-tech companies both visit.

Fees of the course for different semester and scholarship available in the college

We pay fees semester wise. The odd semester (I.e Sem 1,3,5,7) costs around Rs.1,57,850 inr while even semesters (2,4,6,8) is Rs.1,15,485. There are scholarships provided for sc/st category and even economically weaker sections ( under poor aid scheme provided by GNDU itself ) Otherwise the fees is same for all categories you need to fill form for scholarships to attain them. Besides , Fee concessions for disabled students are also provided.

Various clubs and facilities available in the campus

Overall the campus life is amazing. The campus is beautifully made. It is very spacious. The ambience is awesome. the Guru Nanak Dev University Library is a treasure of knowledge, approx 5, lakh books, and journals even digital resources are provided in the library. There are separate reading where people can study while sitting in AC. One of the studies even comprises of the computer, so that people who want to study from computer and follow up with that. the library building is of three floors we have train staff and online catalogues to find the books easily. Besides in each department, students run an official group where they have different clubs, having social clubs, literally club drama club, acting club painting club club, Tech club, it has a lot of impact kiss. It makes them more confident and allows them to present their ideas in front of the world, there are several competitions such as youth fest, which are conducting university.

Students view on faculties and examination of the college

The faculty to student ratio is nearly 2:5 . The faculty is extremely flexible and friendly one can easily approach them on call or in person regarding their doubts. I like most of the CET faculties especially Er Avneet Kaur because of her unwavering support, and perfect guidance on their subject. As such there has not been any faculty that I didn't like but I must mention that manufacturing practices lab teachers should be a bit more considerate towards other students. so basically in a single semester, you have to give exam the first mid semester exam which are of 30 March and last is end semester exam which are of 70 marks. They both sum up to making hundred marks and in case there are some practical subject, practical marks are also counted. The exams are easy enough to score well marks. In case you study every day, however, some difficult subjects like , mathematics, physics , mechanics, basically engineering has many students. The course is pretty much relevant.

How to get admission in the college and what sets the college stand out ?

I firstly plan to go to abroad and study in engineering from northern Alberta Institute of technology, however, due to the recession in Canada, that time I apply to Gndu as a back up option, I also apply to Thapar University where I got admission in electrical engineering, but since I preferred computer engineering over electrical engineering, so I went for Dev University. For my course, I have to give a university entrance exam and on the way of dance exam, the people were given ranks and the people with higher rank had an opportunity to choose their host from a lot of courses provided by the university according to your choice, it was first come first serve offer. The same course one can get admission by giving JEE exam. I did not get because I had plans of going to so if you get a good ranking change your fee will be less as compare to the fees that I am paying to my college for the course. THE FEES FOR THE JEE candidates IS HALF OF MINE.

My parents didn't wanted me to go outside the city to study so that's also one of the reasons I didn't applied to any other college
