Course Details

The 3-year B.Sc. programme under Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) has been offered to cater to the growing demands of quality education and employable workforce with science background. This programme has been designed in view of NEP 2020 with a semester approach in mind.

The programme aims to provide high quality higher education in multidisciplinary subjects through the open and distance learning mode by providing a broad-spectrum exposure to the students to a variety of interesting theoretical and practical concepts which will help the in acquiring knowledge with a wider perspective. Thus, by providing opportunities for career progression and higher education in science disciplines, the programme will be in alignment with learner needs and societal requirements.

Programme Objectives

Learners pursuing this programme would be able to:

  • foster deep interest in learning Science subjects.
  • develop broad and balanced knowledge and understanding of definitions, concepts, principles and theorems.
  • familiarize with suitable learning methods to handle issues and problems in sciences.
  • enhance the ability to apply the knowledge and skills acquired by them during the programme to solve specific theoretical and applied problems in science.
  • provide sufficient knowledge and skills enabling to undertake further studies in science.
  • develop a range of generic skills helpful in employment, internships and social activities.
  • appreciate the complex interplay between science and society.

Note:
1. In disciplines such as Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Physics and Zoology, where Laboratory work is
compulsory, a 6 Credit Course is offered as a combination of two Courses in the same subject area: a 4
Credits Theory Course and a 2 Credits Laboratory Course. Both these courses in a given subject area of
a discipline are to be taken together compulsorily.
2. Every course offered by the Mathematics discipline, which does not require Laboratory work, is a
single course of 6 Credits.
3. In the Geography discipline, some subject areas do require Laboratory works whereas, some subject
areas do not require any Laboratory work. Therefore, the Courses of the Geography discipline are of
two types: some Courses (which require Laboratory work) are combination of 4 Credits Theory Course
and 2 Credits Laboratory Course in the same subject area (which are to be taken together compulsorily)
and some Courses (which do not require Laboratory work) are of 6 Credits each.
Suggestions for the Candidates:

  • A learner can choose any of the three disciplines as per her/his choices from the 7
  • disciplines, i.e., Botany, Chemistry, Geography, Geology, Mathematics, Physics and
  • Zoology for completing B. Sc. (Multi-Disciplinary) Programme under FYUP Scheme.
  • The learner has full freedom to select any combinations of three disciplines out of seven
  • disciplines mentioned above. But we suggest some of the popular combinations which
  • are presently on offer in Indian Universities.
  • The suggested combinations of 3-disciplines to be chosen by the learners in 3-Year B.
  • Sc. (Multidisciplinary) Programme under FYUP Scheme are as follows:

1. Botany - Chemistry - Geology
2. Botany - Chemistry - Zoology

3. Botany - Geography – Geology
4. Botany - Geography - Zoology
5. Chemistry - Geography - Geology
6. Chemistry - Geology – Physics
7. Chemistry - Geology – Zoology
8. Chemistry - Mathematics – Physics
9. Geography - Mathematics - Physics
10. Geography - Geology – Zoology
11. Geology - Mathematics - Physics

IGNOU: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 52 Reviews

Swami Shraddhanand College, part of Delhi University, is praised for its approachable and expert faculty, particularly in subjects like chemistry, zoology, and botany. The faculty-to-student ratio ranges from 1:20 to 1:40, facilitating personalized attention. Faculty support includes extra classes and help with presentations, though there are occasional issues with theory class availability and practical mark updates. The college boasts a strong placement rate of 94%, with 104 out of 110 students placed, and offers an average salary package of 10.22 LPA, though conflicting information suggests a lower average of 3 LPA.

Companies like Tata and Century Paper Mill participate in placements, primarily for postgraduates, with internships largely self-sourced, offering an average stipend of Rs. 8000. IGNOU provides affordable education with fees for a 3-4 year course ranging from 12,000 to 17,000 INR, and annual costs between 4,000 to 6,500 INR. Exam fees are 200 INR per subject, and practical fees are 300 INR. Scholarships and fee exemptions are available for SC/ST students, with specific scholarships for MPhil and PhD students.

While IGNOU lacks on-campus placements and significant financial aid for general category students, it offers valuable opportunities for middle and lower-class students who prefer distance learning due to financial constraints.

IGNOU: 1 Answered Question

Is it valuable doing MA after Bsc from IGNOU?

Renuka MaheshMTM from Indira Gandhi National Open University (Graduated 2017)

No, it’s not valuable for someone to go for an MA after graduating from science. Unless you have a specific target or reason behind pursuing PG in arts it’s not recommended at all.

The course you are opting for should have a direct connection with the industry you are planning to enter. Focus on your goal and pursue the program related to that specific field.

People with no specific goals regarding the industry or profession are much more likely to come across such questions. Redefine and recognise your goals and then if it still suits you best, go for PG in arts.
