Swansea University Campus

The campus and facilities of Swansea University are as mentioned below:

  • Two seafront campuses: Singleton Park Campus (the original 1920 campus, set in botanical gardens near Swansea Bay beach) and Bay Campus (65-acre beachfront site opened in 2015 for Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, and the School of Management).
  • On-campus accommodation: 411 en-suite bedrooms in the most recent residence block, plus older halls. Flats hold 6 to 11 bedrooms with a shared kitchen and common room. First-year accommodation is guaranteed for international students who apply by the published deadline.
  • Libraries: 24-hour library at Singleton Park; specialist labs at Bay Campus include the £32.5m Computational Foundry, the Vision and Biometric Lab, the Maker Lab, and a Cyber Security and Networking lab.
  • Sports: Wales National Pool on campus; gym membership is free for students at the Singleton sports village.

What Indian students say (based on Collegedunia, Reddit, and Quora reviews):

  • Indian alumni consistently rate the seafront location, Singleton botanical gardens, and the 10-minute walk to class as the biggest quality-of-life advantages over big-city UK universities.
  • Common dislike noted: Swansea is geographically isolated, with a 3-hour train to London and limited direct international flights from Cardiff. Weekend trips need budgeting.
  • Reddit threads flag that Bay Campus is a 25-minute bus ride from the city centre, so off-campus students choosing Bay should account for transport time.

Swansea University vs Peer Universities

Indian students considering Swansea typically also evaluate Cardiff, Aston, Leicester, Sussex, and Plymouth in the UK Top-300 band.

University QS Rank 2026 Acceptance Rate Avg Annual PG Fee Median Starting Salary Differentiator
Cardiff University #181 40% £24,450 (₹31.54 Lakhs) £26,000 (₹33.54 Lakhs) Russell Group; bigger Indian cohort; urban capital city

University of Sussex #278 58% £25,250 (₹32.57 Lakhs) £27,500 (₹35.48 Lakhs) Brighton, coastal, closer to London

Swansea is a strong fit for the Indian Master's applicant with a 60%+ bachelor's degree, IELTS 6.5, and a budget of ₹40 to 50 Lakh for one year of tuition plus living. The 12-month MSc structure, combined with the 2-year UK Graduate Route, gives a clear path to a UK job and an estimated ₹35 Lakh starting salary, making the loan EMI math workable on a ₹30 to 40 Lakh education loan (roughly ₹40 to 55K per month for 10 years).

For Indian students applying for the UK Graduate Route visa, Swansea's compact campus, low rent, and active Indian Society reduce the social and financial adjustment compared to London-based Master's programmes that cost ₹15 to 20 Lakh more per year.

FAQs

Ques. What programmes does Swansea offer beyond MSc and MBA?

Ans. Swansea offers 270+ taught programmes covering MA (Humanities and International Relations), LLM (Law), MEng (5-year integrated Engineering), MRes (research Master's), MPhil and PhD across all disciplines. There are also pre-Master's pathway programmes via The College, Swansea University, for applicants who do not meet direct entry. Foundation Year pathways exist for undergraduate engineering, business, and science programmes.

Ques. Can Indian students work while studying at Swansea?

Ans. Yes. UK student visa holders at Swansea can work up to 20 hours per week during term and full-time during holidays. Common roles are campus jobs (library, student union, careers office), retail and hospitality in Swansea city centre, and Swansea Employability Academy internships. The UK national minimum wage is £12.21 per hour for ages 21 and above, so a 20-hour week produces about £244 (₹31,476) before tax.

Ques. What is the UK PSW visa after Swansea?

Ans. The UK Graduate Route gives all Swansea Master's graduates 2 years to live and work in the UK after graduation; PhD graduates get 3 years. There is no sponsor requirement and no minimum salary threshold for the Graduate Route itself. Most Indian alumni use the period to secure a Skilled Worker visa via a UK employer, which then converts the 2 years into indefinite settlement after 5 years.

Ques. Do Indian applicants need the GRE or GMAT for Swansea?

Ans. No. Swansea does not require the GRE for any Master's, including MSc Computer Science and MSc Data Science. The MBA does not require GMAT either; it asks for 2 years of work experience plus academics. IELTS 6.5 (or PTE 62, TOEFL iBT 88) is the standard English requirement. Indian applicants with CBSE/SSCE 70%+ in English Class 12 can waive IELT, S subject to offer-letter confirmation.

Ques. Is there an interview for Swansea admission?

Ans. Most Swansea programmes do not require an interview. Exceptions are MSc Clinical Psychology and Mental Health, MA Social Work, MBChB Medicine, and select research-led MSc programmes, which conduct a 20- to 30-minute virtual interview via Microsoft Teams for shortlisted Indian applicants. The MBA may also include a virtual conversation with the programme director.

Ques. What is the Swansea application fee?

Ans. Direct international applications via the Swansea Learner Gateway portal are free, both for UG and PG. UCAS undergraduate applications cost £28.50 (₹3,677) for one to five choices in the 2026 cycle. Most Indian applicants use the direct route for cost reasons and to apply to multiple Swansea programmes in one go.

Ques. Which lenders fund Swansea education loans?

Ans. Indian education loans for Swansea are routinely funded by HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo, ICICI Bank, SBI, and non-collateral options like Prodigy Finance and Juno Finance. Typical interest rates sit at 9.5% to 12.5% for collateral loans and 10.5% to 13% for non-collateral loans. Loan amounts of ₹40 to 50 Lakh cover Master's tuition plus living costs; 10-year repayment EMI lands at about ₹50K to 70K per month at current rates.

Ques. Can Indian students bring dependents?

Ans. Indian students starting a Master's or undergraduate degree at Swansea from January 2024 cannot bring dependants under the UK student visa rules. The only exception is PhD students, who can bring their spouse and children as dependents. This is a UK government policy applicable across all UK universities, not a Swansea-specific rule.

Ques. What triggers conditional offers from Swansea?

Ans. Indian applicants typically receive conditional offers pending: final degree certificate (for those still in the final year), IELTS or equivalent score (if not submitted), and proof of financial capacity. The deposit to convert conditional to unconditional is £4,000 for most Indian states. Applicants from Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Telangana pay £8,000; from Haryana and Punjab, the full first-year tuition is required before CAS issues.

Ques. Does Swansea need or require a run apostille for transcripts?

Ans. Swansea does not require a WES evaluation for Indian transcripts. Applicants upload scanned originals via the Learner Gateway; the admissions team verifies directly. An apostille is required for the UK student visa application itself, not the Swansea application. Class 10 and 12 marksheets need an apostille from MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) if the visa officer requests document verification.

Ques. When can Indian students waive IELTS at Swansea?

Ans. Indian Class 12 CBSE or SSCE candidates with 70%+ in English can have the IELTS requirement waived, subject to offer-letter confirmation. This applies whether the applicant is for UG or PG. If there is a gap of more than 3.5 years between graduating from an Indian university and applying to Swansea, the IELTS waiver typically lapses, and a fresh IELTS is required. The waiver does not apply to programmes requiring IELTS 7.0 (Law, Psychology, Education).

Ques. What is Swansea's refund policy if a visa is rejected?

Ans. Swansea refunds tuition deposits in full if the UK student visa is rejected, less an administration fee of typically £200 to £500, depending on the cycle. Refund requires the official UK visa refusal letter and a written request via the Student Finance Office. Applicants who voluntarily defer to a later intake can transfer the deposit to the next cycle without losing money, subject to the admissions agreement.

Life at Swansea

Admission Experience

  • I applied for a total of 6 universities in the UK, including Swansea University, Cardiff University, University of Birmingham, Leicester University, University of Nottingham, and the University of Bath.
  • All of these institutions are best known for their academic programs and reputations all over, which made them perfect options for my postgraduate studies. Taking into account that my focus was to choose a university that not only matched my career goals but also offered support & guidance for international students especially from India. Luckily, I received conditional offers from all the universities I applied to, reflecting the alignment of my experience, academic background and inclination with their entry requirements.
  • Receiving conditional offers meant that each university was prepared to accept me, provided I met specific criteria, that was clearing Ielts Exam 7 band average and not less than 6.5 in any of the tests, other than this I was supposed to sit for the Interview for a successful scholarship of 50% or more. I carefully considered all the factors such as program structure, university rankings, campus facilities, affordable fees, living expenses and scholarships criteria while deciding where to enroll.
  • There were several factors based on which I made my decision to go for Swansea University.
Firstly, the intake played an important role in my decision. Maximum universities offered a September intake, while only two provided the option to start in January. Swansea University’s & Cardiff University January intake fitted better with my personal schedule.
I chose Swansea University for various convincing reasons that made it the most suitable choice for my postgrad course. One of the primary factors was the 50% scholarship other than the cost of living in Swansea in Wales, which is less compared to other cities where I received offers.
Cities like Birmingham, Nottingham, and Bath have higher living costs.
  • I applied for January intake because after quitting my job I was looking for an option to study abroad as soon as possible. The admission process including CAS, IELTS, DEPOSIT, INTERVIEW, VISA, VISA INTERVIEW and loan process took 2 months. I started searching and applying for Universities in mid August 2023. It took me 2-3 weeks to receive offers from universities. Deadline for acceptance of the offer or to convert the conditional offer to unconditional is again 2-3 weeks.

Exam

  • I was required to undertake the IELTS EXAM as a part of the English language requirement.
  • The documents required for the successful admission were:
    1. Education documents (10, 12, Bachelors, or if any master)
    2. Experience if any
    3. Minimum 2 LOR from institution, employer.
    4. Resume
    5. SOP of minimum 500 words stating your purpose and what skill will you attain with this degree.

Course Curriculum Overview

  • Course curriculum follows a master level pattern which means they want you to read articles, journals and books and take part in seminars to show your engagement.
  • There are up to 2 classes per week in the second trimester and maximum of 9 classes in a week in the first trimester and third trimester.
  • University itself offers part time employment opportunities, voluntary services, and has an employability hub which helps you in finding part time and sponsorship jobs in the UK. They offer resume/ CV building classes and one to one sessions for students.

Fees

  • Total fees: £20,600 for the course
  • Scholarship: £8,000 (Bursary + Hardship Funding + Experience based reduction in fees), After Scholarship: £12,800
  • Accommodation: £410/ Monthly
  • All other Expenses: £135/ Monthly. Further segregated: Food: £80, Recharge: £5, Bus: £50
  • Fees is to be paid in 3 installments: 50%: Feb, Once you land in the UK and start your lecture, 25%: June, after completion of the First trimester, 25%: Sept, before the start of the third trimester.

Scholarship

  • Swansea University offers many scholarships and financial aid based on need, experience, skills to support students from diverse backgrounds. Some of the notable scholarships include: Chevening Scholarship, this prestigious scholarship provides full financial support to outstanding students who have demonstrated leadership potential and a commitment to making a positive impact in their home country. But there is one backdrop of this scholarship that you can’t go for a Post study work visa or sponsorship visa under this.
  • The university is also offering scholarships specifically for students with significant professional experience in their chosen field of study. These scholarships aim to attract students who can bring practical insights to their academic field.
  • University also has bursaries that vary depending on the student’s country of residence. These bursaries are designed to make education more accessible to international students, and the amounts can differ based on factors specific to each country.
  • For students who demonstrate a strong passion for entrepreneurship, Swansea University offers scholarships and grants that can help fund their education. And universities can even provide financial support or investment in business ideas for students who show promise as innovative entrepreneurs.
  • Hardship funding is also an option for students facing financial difficulties or are unable to cover their living expenses/ cost due to unforeseen circumstances or other commitments.

Faculty

  • I admire Ellie Ismalgoliva (Senior Professor) the most of all. She has had a wonderful journey of being once a student and today module coordinator in University.
  • Average number of students in Lectures depend on modules in some you may have 100 or even 500 few subjects. Seminars have almost 30-40 students maximum.
  • 25-30% of Indians are enrolled in the University and approx the same in my course.
  • Each and everything taught in Lectures are repeated in Seminars and students are asked to take part and get engaged so that they can have confidence in public speaking, presentation skills, etc.

Campus Life

  • Swansea University has two campuses: Bay and Singleton. Bay Campus offers management, data science, and engineering programmes, while Singleton Campus offers courses in law, healthcare, medicine, criminology, psychology, and more, with over 50 programs.
  • The university provides free sports facilities and on-site medical services, including one of the biggest inside university which is Singleton Hospital under the NHS.
  • Celebration of cultural diversity is done, with emphasis on remembering important dates such as Easter, Christmas, Diwali, and Eid. Helping students build their careers, career fairs, trip to Parliament, and collaboration with IIM Shillong as a part of the International Immersion Program were organized. The student union also coordinates a number of country-specific committees to ensure everyone’s participation.

Accommodation

  • I am living in Student accommodation provided by the university itself. There were no challenges in finding accommodation. Everything is available online on university portals and renting websites.
  • My monthly rent is £410 for a large 26m square studio shared by 2 students. Best accommodation in Swansea.
  • Students should go for accommodation based on their budget, sharing preferences, & dietary habits (whether veg/non-veg). For those with no specific requirements, low-cost rooms are available for around £250.

Placement

  • 80-85% of graduating students get jobs after 5-6 months of completing their course but are not provided the sponsorship as recruiters are facing difficulty due to new UK government visa guidelines.
  • Minimum salary of GBP 23,500 to maximum salary of GBP 54,000 annually can be provided to a graduate student after completing post graduate course.
  • After completing graduation students find jobs through the university's own job portal, Alumni reference network, and other job portals available out there, and even Walk ins are considered.
  • Recently last week we had our career fair where big companies like JLR, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Volkswagen, PwC, KPMG, Barclays, HSBC and other major companies visited the campus explained the process of conquering assessment and interview process, what skills they are looking for in resume/CV of students and suggested tips for Graduate placement roles available.

Part Time Jobs

  • Students who successfully complete a dissertation with distinction grades are offered a research degree (PHD) by the University. And while studying a student is offered an assistant post for practical experience. Initially the pay range is on hourly basis but once you are trained and superior sees good progress in you they might offer you a monthly salary with sponsorship.
  • Maximum hours allowed for a tier 4 are 20 as per the UKVI guidelines.
  • It’s easy to secure a part time job on campus as they have an employment zone, student circus, and other activity hiring platforms for international students.
  • Students generally earn around £10 to £11.44 per hour but there are few students earning more than the base rate. Some enjoy a pay rate of more than £12.5. It’s easy for a student to get a part time job while studying but he/she should be actively looking for the jobs. Usually a student can get a part time job from indeed as well but if he/she faces difficulty then walk-ins are preferred.

  • Exceptionally good. There was no pressure. Rather, we are encouraged to find the balance between fun and studies. The college environment was relaxed and enjoyable.
  • Work assigned in class had to be submitted before the deadline. There will be absolutely no leniency.
  • A whole lot of sports and clubs to choose from, with strong encouragement from teaching staff to join extracurricular activities.
  • More than 100 clubs available. Students can easily do 2–3 sports or clubs at a time.
  • Clubs are easy to join, inclusive, and hold social weeks to help students connect and get comfortable in the new city.
  • The library provides quiet study spaces, group discussion rooms, and access to journals and online resources, making it very easy to complete assignments and research. Books are available for rent, and in case they are taken, the university offers e-renting services as well.
  • The university also provides free access to reputable platforms like JSTOR, which publish journals and papers that are otherwise expensive. This is incredibly helpful for reference work and for accessing the most relevant research materials.

Fees

  • Total tuition fee for the 1-year program: £19,250.
  • Living expenses, including rent: around £12,000.
  • Overall, including living costs, the total comes to approximately £28,000–£30,000.

Overview

  • The first thing is Bristol and Glasgow were more expensive for me, and except for Swansea, no other university offered me a scholarship.
  • And the second thing is a collaboration with aerospace companies. One friend of mine was studying there, and he got to work with Mercedes Benz, so I decided to go with Swansea, and it is way more beautiful.

  • Campus experience is wonderful and mesmerising; campus was more beautiful than what we show online. Swansea Uni has two campuses, Singleton and Bay. Ours was Bay campus because of a large inward sea line is very close to the buildings of the campus; hence they named it Bay campus, and Singleton campus is the older one. both are very far to each other. Both campuses have the library, cafeteria, prayer hall, and places for food like Greggs, Subway, and Tesco Express. Singleton campus is famous for School of Culture and Communication, Social Sciences, Health and Social Care, Psychology, Biosciences, Geography and Physics, the Medical School and the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law. Bay Campus is famous for Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Sports, Research & development. Bay campus is new and has a new accommodation facility close to the uni and has a large basketball & football court.
  • There were many clubs & activities going on throughout the year. Clubs like Swansea Uni Live Music Society, Drama Society, Swansea Snow Riders, Hiking, Road Cycling, Equestrian Club, Islamic Society, Dance Club, Skate Society, Swimming Club, Golf Club, Student Union, Surf & Rowing Club, K-Pop Society, LGBTQ+ Society, Indian Society, and various sports clubs & societies, and many more I'm not aware of. You can find all the media & photos on social media like Insta or Facebook; I'm sorry, I don't have it.
  • We celebrated almost all Indian festivals with my international friends, like Diwali and Holi, Chatth puja, Navratri, Ganesh Chaturthi, EID & Ramadhan, etc.
  • We often used to go hiking and cycling to the most beautiful location in Swansea and it was the most joyful time I ever experienced. Swansea is a combination of both mountain and seaside beauty.

  • Swansea University is comprised of two major campuses:
Singleton Park Campus: Many institutional buildings sit within this very green landscape park which is by the swansea bay, and the school of Arts & Humanities, School of Medicine as well as School of Science are located within its premises.
Bay Campus: Located to the east of the city in close proximity to the beach, the Bay Campus is home to the College of Engineering, the School of Management and the Computational Foundry.
  • Each of the campuses has a well-equipped library with different study materials, journals, e-books and electronic materials, and available study areas and support personnel.
  • There are very good sporting facilities including a gym, swimming pool, and indoor games area. In addition, Swansea Bay which is close by has facilities for water sports such as surfing and sailing.
  • Medical and Wellness Facilities are also available.
  • Freshers’ Week: This is the first big event of the year dedicated to getting new students involved in numerous activities, club fairs, and social events.

Fees

  • Tuition fee was £19100, this included everything but at the end of the college for ceremony gown it costed £80.
  • Accommodation was upto you if you wanted to stay in the university or outside the campus. I chose to stay outside the campus because that was cheap. For me it costed £400 rent/month, bus pass for £33 / month, groceries + entertainment £300. All in all, you need at least £850/month.

Overview

I opted for Maritime Law at Swansea University since its faculties are pioneers in contributing to the literature in maritime law. It was always my first choice thus, my decision was a no-brainer. My experience at this Uni has been enriching. For career opportunities, one has to look at themselves. Please do not undertake this course if you don't have any work experience beforehand as it will be difficult for you.

Overview

I chose this university as this has a higher ranking in the healthcare sector, admission process is also flexible and can apply 3-4 months prior to the course starting as well. I missed the September intake deadline which was in April/May due to my passport issues and this was the best option I had for the January intake.

Campus Life

The campus has a decent infrastructure, there are many student union groups, cultural, religion and sports-oriented. There are about 80+ sports clubs and also country-wide clubs.

Overview

The university course -BSc Applied Medical Sciences is a fantastic pathway for those looking to go into medical research, enterprise, or study Medicine afterwards. The location is really relaxing with the beach near the university campus and the lecturers and support network is really welcoming and encouraging. I chose Swansea particularly due to the 2nd year Pathways that they provide to study Graduate Entry Medicine.

Currently it is £9250 for each academic year.
