Course Curriculum

5

  • Difficulty level of the course was quiet high, we had theoretical exams and practical assignments.
  • It had great assignment which was the positive aspect, and negative one was the professor coming and reading their presentation. But if you meet your professor seprately in their office, they helped a lot.
  • On an average, 2 classes each day.

Admission Experience

  • I applied to following universities: Swansea university, university of liverpool, university of glasgow
  • I received admission offers from Swansea University, University of Liverpool, and University of Glasgow for my Master’s program. After careful consideration, I chose Swansea University, confident that its program aligned best with my academic and career goals. Each of these universities confirmed my admission, allowing me to make a fully informed decision without rejections from any institution.
  • I was admitted to these universities, with admissions based on a comprehensive application process that included essays, IELTS (minimum score of 6), and either GMAT or GRE scores.
  • While each university offered a strong program, I ultimately chose Swansea University due to its alignment with my interests in specific subjects, competitive tuition fees, availability of scholarships, and favorable location. This decision allowed me to optimize both the academic and financial aspects of my graduate studies.
  • September intake was the one I applied, it took 2 months from the time I submitted my application. I submitted my application in January 2022, and in March I got my acceptance letter, it was a conditional letter as I was asked to submit my IELTS score which I submitted in March and in April my letter was confirmed. In one go, I submitted my application just IELTS score was remaining.

Faculty

5

  • Teachers might give you the job of his assistance but no help in full time.
  • Professor Gibin Potiwar, he was just very kind and helpful. I really liked his teaching method.
  • In my batch of MSc Data Science, 80 students were there, out of which about 50 were Indians.
  • 80: 8 was student faculty ratio, but there were few subjects in which number of students were 200.
  • No, I didn't like the teaching aproach in the class room. They just came with the presentation, read it and gave assignment. It was just the quality of the assignment which was high and made the study curriculum very hard.

Campus Life

5

  • Swansea University is comprised of two major campuses:
Singleton Park Campus: Many institutional buildings sit within this very green landscape park which is by the swansea bay, and the school of Arts & Humanities, School of Medicine as well as School of Science are located within its premises.
Bay Campus: Located to the east of the city in close proximity to the beach, the Bay Campus is home to the College of Engineering, the School of Management and the Computational Foundry.
  • Each of the campuses has a well-equipped library with different study materials, journals, e-books and electronic materials, and available study areas and support personnel.
  • There are very good sporting facilities including a gym, swimming pool, and indoor games area. In addition, Swansea Bay which is close by has facilities for water sports such as surfing and sailing.
  • Medical and Wellness Facilities are also available.
  • Freshers’ Week: This is the first big event of the year dedicated to getting new students involved in numerous activities, club fairs, and social events.

Part Time Jobs

  • TA/RA/DA Positions are Limited and competitive, with around 5-10% of qualified students securing these roles. Pay ranges from £10-£15/hour.
  • Other Jobs: Roles like Library Assistant, Café Staff, and Student Ambassador. Pay averages £9.50-£12/hour.
  • Max Hours: 20 hours/week during term; full-time in holidays. Positions can be moderately competitive.
  • Students prefer working on McD, KFC and all the food outlets and all the groceries stores big or small. Big retail store has the website and in small retail store you would have to go and ask directly for the job. McD outlets are always the save option, every 20-25 days there is an opening at several McD outlets in Swansea.

Placement

1

  • Less than 20% students get placement. Average salary would be somewhere around £30000.
  • There is no such thing as campus recruitment. You would have to do the networking, applying constantly, changing the CV, adding the projects.
  • There are many major companies hiring Data scientist, so to name a few wouldn't make sense. Placement experience overall was poor for the students.

Accommodation

Off Campus
4

  • I opted for Off campus, whose rent was £400/ month. I used online platforms to find it. The only challenge I faced was in finding the UK guarantor.
  • Facilities included were big kitchen, lawn area, washing machine, 2 refrigrator, 2 clean bathroom. It was a big house with 6 rooms where 6 students could stay.
  • It was 3 miles from college. Most of the Indian students stayed in houses like this only.

Exams

  • My admission process involved multiple components, with a primary focus on my statement of purpose and two letters of recommendation. While I did go through an interview, my acceptance was largely based on these written materials rather than a CV, which was not required. Additionally, an IELTS score of at least 6 met the language proficiency requirement, making it sufficient for admission.

Fees

  • Tuition fee was £19100, this included everything but at the end of the college for ceremony gown it costed £80.
  • Accommodation was upto you if you wanted to stay in the university or outside the campus. I chose to stay outside the campus because that was cheap. For me it costed £400 rent/month, bus pass for £33 / month, groceries + entertainment £300. All in all, you need at least £850/month.

Scholarship

  • I received a £3000 scholarship from Swansea University, which was available to Asian students as part of their support for international students. This scholarship was not specific to individual merit but was awarded to all eligible Asian students, including my friends, helping us offset tuition costs as part of our studies. Somewere around 5000 students received this.
