Life as a student in Swansea University

I applied for a total of 6 universities in the UK, including Swansea University, Cardiff University, University of Birmingham, Leicester University, University of Nottingham, and the University of Bath.  All of these institutions are best known for their academic programs and reputations all over, which made them perfect options for my postgraduate studies. Taking into account that my focus was to choose a university that not only matched my career goals but also offered support & guidance for international students especially from India. Luckily, I received conditional offers from all the universities I applied to, reflecting the alignment of my experience, academic background and inclination with their entry requirements. Receiving conditional offers meant that each university was prepared to accept me, provided I met specific criteria, that was clearing Ielts Exam 7 band average and not less than 6.5 in any of the tests, other than this I was supposed to sit for the Interview for a successful scholarship of 50% or more. I carefully considered all the factors such as program structure, university rankings, campus facilities, affordable fees, living expenses and scholarships criteria while deciding where to enroll. There were several factors based on which I made my decision to go for Swansea University. Firstly, the intake played an important role in my decision. Maximum universities offered a September intake, while only two provided the option to start in January. Swansea University’s & Cardiff University January intake fitted better with my personal schedule. I chose Swansea University for various convincing reasons that made it the most suitable choice for my postgrad course. One of the primary factors was the 50% scholarship other than the cost of living in Swansea in Wales, which is less compared to other cities where I received offers. Cities like Birmingham, Nottingham, and Bath have higher living costs. I applied for January intake because after quitting my job I was looking for an option to study abroad as soon as possible. The admission process including CAS, IELTS, DEPOSIT, INTERVIEW, VISA, VISA INTERVIEW and loan process took 2 months. I started searching and applying for Universities in mid August 2023. I applied to following universities: Swansea university, university of liverpool, university of glasgow I received admission offers from Swansea University, University of Liverpool, and University of Glasgow for my Master’s program. After careful consideration, I chose Swansea University, confident that its program aligned best with my academic and career goals. Each of these universities confirmed my admission, allowing me to make a fully informed decision without rejections from any institution. I was admitted to these universities, with admissions based on a comprehensive application process that included essays, IELTS (minimum score of 6), and either GMAT or GRE scores. The UK was always my go to and it was the shortest distance to India, making it easier to transfer my family as well.   It was the top university in Aerospace engineering. It had almost 300 Courses specific to many careers. It was close to a beach, making it the ultimate recommendation to people who love beaches. I applied to a few universities: Shortlisted: Swansea University, Teesside University, University of Glasgow, Kingston University, Coventry University, University of Bristol Rejected: Kingston University, Teesside University, Admitted: Swansea University, University of Glasgow, University of Bristol, Coventry University Kingston rejected my application because there were no seats available for the fall intake, and there was no available January intake. And I don't know the reason why Teesside rejected my application, as I've been admitted to the other better than Teesside, even though Teesside is less difficult to get into. The admission process is very smooth; you just have to apply through their website with the required docs like SOP, LORs, transcripts, IELTS score, etc. The application is free, and you might get an interview if your profile gets selected; you will get your offer letter in your email, and after paying 25% of the fees, you will get your CAS letter. The last step is to get an ATAS certificate that you have to apply for after getting a CAS letter. Finally, you're good to go for the visa process. Initially, there were no challenges in the admission process, but after you land in the UK, you have to go to university and enrol yourself in the course; this is a must-do within the timeline; otherwise, you may face some consequences. I applied in Jan Intake because I was doing an internship, so I could not get into Fall; another benefit of getting into Jan Intake is you can get 3 months of dissertation timeline in the summer after finishing your first semester, so you can easily work full time, and it is easy to finish the course while Fall Intake students have to finish it at the end of the course, which is annoying. The process is not so long after applying you can get your decision in 7 -15 days, and then they will give you around 20 days to pay 25% of the fees, as soon as you pay it they will give you a CAS letter and after 5-7 days you will get your ATAS certificate. Universities I applied for:  1. Southampton University - Got selected 2. Swansea University - Got selected I applied to only two colleges as for Maritime Law, as per my research these two colleges in UK were the best. As I received confirmation from both colleges, I picked Swansea university because of the review given by the alumini and even it was evident that Swansea is doing good in the field of Maritime because of the great faculty they manage to have there. Chose Swansea University as I wanted to do the LLM in Maritime Law and for Maritime course Swansea is considered as one of the best choices in the world as the faculty in this courses are outstanding there. For few Sothampton university is the choice, however as per my R&D that time Swansea was better than southampton for Maritime because of the faculty out there. Also, as the Swansea is small city, the whole city will give you the welcoming vibe as you will meet all over the city the swansea students. Courses start from September. So, students must start the application process as early as possible, say from Feb-Mar as it takes whole 1-2 months for getting the acceptance letter. and after that to plan how to pay the fees and all. Course mostly get completed by May/June. After that students got busy with their dissertation work. For dissertation students get 2-3 months timeline and students are expected to write an original work as college have strict plagiarism policy.
